Thanks 9/13/2010

I like to thank the nice lady that is working @ Duke's Tailors for doing my alterations on my suit for free awhile back when I was unemployed. On top of everything else, she had them done for me the same day. I got the job the very next day. :) I went back a couple of weeks later and tried to pay for my alterations but she refused to except my money. She told me in broken English that ""it is blessing to me, I give and help you and God help me back"" . She was great and very understanding. I will continuing to give Duke's Tailors my business for all my tailoring needs and recommending to everyone that I know. However, customer 2345 complained that the lady charged a dollar more for paying CC. and called her dishonest. As a banker I know that if a merchant is excepting CC do pay a very highly fee. Four items for $23.00, that is very reasonable. You cannot buy 4 items for that price even you are shopping @ Walmart. I am shocked at some people these day. Minor stitching or not, someone has to do those stitching. Sorry, the review on customer 2345 is not helpful. Sound like she or he is a nag or just simply had a bad day. Again, thanks Duke's. :) Oh, by the way, customer 2345, if you need that dollar so bad please give me your address and I will put a dollar in the mail. :) more

Dishonest 8/31/2010

I took in four items which needed minor stitching. While the work was completed to my satisfaction, I was blown away by the behavior of staff when i went to pay. She asked whether I wanted to pay with credit or cash, and I replied with credit. While ringing the charge up, she tells me that it is $23. I remembered that the total amount was actually less than that, and when I protested, she quickly said that the credit card adds an additional dollar and that there's no way she can take the charge off the card once it's been rung up (which she was doing during this conversation). I was incredibly insulted that she'd be so dishonest me - first lying about the total price, then lying about the credit card charge (or at least not disclosing it BEFORE I gave the card) and then lying about not being able to undo the charge. There are many other tailors out there that produce quality work, and many are much closer to my house. She's lost my business. more

Excellent - Could not ask for better service 10/8/2009

Bridal store had to re-order my wedding dress size. I went to Duke's Tailor for my alteration with only one month to do my gown alterations. Duke’s Tailor was able to squeeze me in for two fitting dates. Alteration on my gown hemming, side and bustle turn out perfectly. They did an excellent job. I highly recommended any bride to Duke’s Tailor. Pros: service, professioanl, staff more

Horrible--AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! 6/12/2009

My biggest mistake was going to Duke's Tailor--At first Anna and her mother were very nice and accommodating; they appeared to be very knowledgeable regarding alterations of wedding gowns and told me my wedding dress would be perfect. As it turns out they are not as experienced as they would like you to believe nor do they have first-rate customer service. All was well, until it was time to pick my wedding dress up. Imagine the excitement and then the disappointment when it is not ready. The first time I went to pick it up, it was not ready at all; in fact, it appeared that they had not even worked on it since the last time that I was there. I scheduled another appt and told them not to worry about it, as I had a few more weeks. Anna insisted that I schedule the appt two days later because she was concerned and wanted to make sure that I had my dress with enough time before my wedding...I thought to my self “WOW”. Two days later I came back for my appt, and guess what my dress was not ready at all—I could see them still working on it in the back. She called me to the back and told me to try on my dress. I did and wore it for about 2 hours while she finished the alterations!! I took it home and tried it on again and noticed that the bust was too short, and the back of the dress was not the same as before. I took the dress back the next day and she said that there was only one way to fix it...The ""fix"" sounded crazy so I called around and confirmed that it was a half/fix and that it would not work at all. I called Duke’s back and told Anna and requested that we consider an alternative to correct the problem. She was resistant to this idea—at this point I informed her that I had an appt with another tailor and requested a PARTIAL refund. She immediately got upset and accused me of not listening and blamed my body for the problem with my dress. She told me, and I quote, “I’m not giving you a penny back"" and hung up the phone. No more than two minutes later she called me back and left a very hostile message saying, and I quote ""please do return any phone call and please do not call Duke’s Tailor to harass us or we will call 911”. I guess this was her way of telling me that they would not fix their error with the alterations nor would they be willing to reimburse me. I am now three weeks away from my wedding and my dress is worse than it was when I brought it to them. I regret ever making the decision to go to Duke Tailors! I hope that you will learn from my mistake and AVOID this place at all costs. \r \r Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

Fast Service and quality works. Highly Recommend 11/20/2008

My appreciation to Duke?s tailor. Highly recommend! Pros: service, quality, friendly, etc.. more

another victim of ""fuquayeditor"" 10/27/2008

Warning to all local businesses: I am writing to let you (the readers) beware that Duke's Tailors is not the only victim that ""Fuquayeditor"" has complained about the prices and services. She was rude, disrepectful and mean. Also, I don't know the people @ Duke's Tailors but ""the old lady"" has a name. As you can see, she was unkind and tried to cheat all her vendors that she had dealt with. Thumbs up for Anna for REFUSING service to ""FUQUAYEDITOR"". By the way, The name of the ""Fuquayeditor"" is STACIE MAJORIA. All RETAILERS BEWARE OF THIS PERSON. more

AVOID Duke's at all costs. Don't be fooled: Not worth mistakes and rudeness 10/15/2008

If I can pass only one nugget of information gleaned from my wedding planning experience, it would be DON'T TAKE YOUR WEDDING GOWN to Duke's tailor's. \r I took my expensive gown to Duke's Tailors on Creedmoor. The tailor pinned my dress at the hem, which was slightly too long, and the sides of the skirt, which were slightly too wide. She also suggested we take in the chest a slight amount - she insisted it was no big deal and would be easy to fix. \r 2 1/2 weeks later I got a call from Anna quoting the fee at $280. I was SHOCKED!! Their website listed wedding gown alterations as: $35 for sides $60 for hem. (Since then, Anna has removed most all of the prices).\r After I objected to the fee (my dress had NO detail, thus no complications, on the skirt sides or hem), Anna dropped the price to $150 (i told her not to work on the so-called ""easy"" chest). BTW - She also quoted me $100 for pressing. My new tailor is only charging $40.\r After realizing that Anna was SERIOUSLY inflating prices, I called the next day and asked for an estimate on a ballroom bustle. Anna flat out refused to give me an estimate and suggested I go elsewhere if I ""was going to give her this trouble."" I gladly agreed.\r I found numerous mistakes when i went to pick up my gown. I thought, based on these other reviews, that they would at least do a professional job! Not!\r The hem on my gown was too short (several inches off the floor) and they had also forgotten to hem the inside slip, so it was long. Also, the skirt was still too big. The old lady said she could fix it but I did not trust them after this awful experience & I had already made another appt. with a competent tailor who had no problem quoting prices.\r when I called Anna, to try to settle the dispute, she refused to let me speak and hung up on me. She actually said I WAS THE PROBLEM. DON'T let Anna's reply to this review DISCOUNT THE TRUTH.\r The ONLY 2 ""PROBLEMS"" I posed were: a) objecting to being overcharged and b) requesting an estimate. Cons: big errors on your wedding gown, rude service, unprofessional work, unfinished alterations more

Incredible service! 6/7/2008

Though I can't speak for other users and reviewers, I CAN say that my own personal experience with Duke's has been nothing short of incredible. While Tracy is always a delight to work with - she remembered my name the second time I came in, which I should note was months after the first time - I've gotta say that today has truly defined my experience with Duke's. I had a friend's wedding to attend this evening and decided to wear a suit that I had altered four years ago. I tried it on last night and quickly realized that I'd need alterations made if I'd want my best. So - I came in at 10 this morning (when they open on Saturdays), asked Tracy if she could take in the sides on my jacket and a little bit at the waist of my pants, AND have it ready for tonight. She said yes. I was thrilled. She told me to be back at three. As the day went by, I had errands to run all over town and got back at five not realizing that when she'd told me three o'clock, that was when they were closing. Though the OPEN sign was turned off, I stepped in the door and found Tracy, still there two hours after closing, waiting around for me. Talk about costumer service! I don't think I've EVER experienced anything like that before! The alterations were perfect and I made it to the wedding in style! I can't thank her enough! more

Best Tailor In Town 4/1/2008

Professional seamstress not working for free! 2/27/2008

Hi;\r I am home seamstress for over 30 years. I only work on refer only base on wedding gown. When wedding season come, I am over whelm with request that I tell my customers to go to Duke's Tailor. I only referred them to Duke's Tailor cause they been doing this since and in business since 1980s. I trust them and they are the honest family I know.\r \r I could not help but intervene on this conservation. I charged for doing bustle from $65 to $95 depends on the bustle style. All my bride that I end up doing alteration for paid me from $250 to $350 ticket for hem, side and bustle.\r \r The most popular these day on bustle request is to do the triple bustle style. This bustle style is very complicate job and can cost you from $90 to $160 depend on the gown and material of your gown.\r \r Bustle is not easy to do. No all bustle style work on all wedding gown style and material. You have to carefully arranges and layout the bustle to look prefect on the wedding gown. Take a train eye and experience person to know where to put and sew the material together and sew the hook and eye so it would not be visual when you showing off your bustle at your wedding day. French bustle work well on most wedding cause the elegant style. If you want to know more about french bustle here great link. Link has a picture of what french bustle look like. If you think you can do the bustle for under $50 please do it yourself. I would not even consider it and my service charge for this complicate job is in high end $90.\r Since I can not past the link. You can search on yahoo or google:\r french bustle wedding gown\r click on leanna\r leanna Bridal/BustleQ/FrenchFactors.htm\r \r You can find more about different bustle style that works on different gown style and material. Here the link:\r 101weddingtips Pros: Experience, seamstree, honest, location, high quality more

Tracy is wonderful person by far best tailor in town! 2/22/2008

I went to Duke?s tailor to have my wedding dress alter back in December. Tracy works alteration on my wedding gown and turn out wonderful. My dress was unique, yet traditional. It was truly ""one of a kind"". From the first day until the day I picked it up for the big day, I felt confident. I see the detail that went into my dress alteration on my wedding gown hem, bustle and sides had to be take in. Duke?s tailor steams my wedding gown and all my bride maid dress. They pay attention to detail. Duke?s is the best tailor in the triangle. Tracy is very professional, knowledgeable, honest and helpful. I live here in Raleigh all my life, I will recommended to you all bride-to-be do not go any where else. \r \r In response to the previous post bride, calling Tracy con-artist is uncalled for over $45 bustle. If you call all other tailors in town, you would know they would charge you from $65 to $120 depend on bustle you want. Bustle is not easy to do on wedding gown. Tracy is sweetest person I have met and for you call her name over $25 you end up paying her and she even offer full refund, raleigh12345 have no class at all. It's clearly some one is very unreasonable and can not be please no matter what you do. All the things you said about Tracy is not true. I ask every brides that had gone to Duke?s Tailor and Tracy works on your wedding gown to post your comment and voucher with me on this?..\r Thank-you search city for helping me find Duke's Tailor!\r \r Great customer service! Wouldn't go anywhere else! My name is Renee you can email if you have any questions. Pros: Professional, friendly service, location, experience, high end quality more

unprofessional... she is a con-artist!!!!! 2/22/2008

Tracy was very nice the first time I went in with my wedding dress. She pinned everything and the bustle was beautiful. When I came to pick it up, she said, ""French bustle did not look good."" She told me they did something else. When I looked at it I realized that all she had done was sewed a tiny hook and one tiny loop of thread and had charged me 45 dollars!!!! I asked her if the price should come down since it was much more simple than we had originally discussed. She said no. I then mentioned that I had seen on the website that bustles were 24 dollars. After this she finally gave me 20 dollars of the 45 back. I called the next day because the more I thought about it the more upset I got. When I explained my frustration to her she was very defensive and kept referring to me as ""sweetheart"" in a condescending manner. Although she offered to refund all of my money if I brought my gown back in, she was so incredibly rude about it that I would rather lose out on the money than have to see her again! She also kept saying that other places would have charged 75 dollars for what she did to my dress. I called around and got prices from 5-10 bucks! what a rip off!!! do not go to her.. she is terrible!!!!!!! more

Great Service 7/25/2007

I recently took my wedding dress into Duke's Tailor after reading their great reviews on Citysearch. So far, I've had 2 fittings & everything is perfect. Tracy is custom making a veil for me as well as shortening the hem of my wedding gown (which has very intricate beading & lace), adding a bustle and making a few other modifications. Beyond the great quality of the alterations, the prices are very reasonable. I would highly recommend Duke's Tailor! Pros: Clean, Great Location more

Best and Nicest Tailors in Town! 5/25/2007

I have lived in Raleigh for 10 years and recently decided to look for a tailor I could trust my wedding gown alterations with. Previously I had gone to other places for a hem here or a button hole there; but I needed someone who could take the size 10 dress I found on super sale, down to a size 6 (with special attention given to the intricate beading on the dress). After several recommendations, I found Tracy at Duke's Tailors. I have been so happy with the service there! I have also had several pairs of pants altered with fabulous results. (Ladies, they'll keep that fancy stonewashed hem on those expensive jeans and you can't even tell they've been altered!!!!) If you want a friendly place where they know your name and they remember how you prefer your clothes to be tailored, I recommend Duke's over any chain in the mall. Pros: Great value, friendly & fast service, convenient location and hours more

High Quality - Best Tailor by far compare to other in Town 5/24/2007

Duke?s tailor did a great job on my clothing. I had a great experience and well worth it. My jeans had to hemmed here with original hems reattached and they came out so good I could barely tell they had been altered. The tailor got the length right on too. The 2nd job I had done here was a blazer that needed a lot of work. It needed to have the sides taken in so the body would fit slimmer, as well as having the sleeves shortened (and they were the kind of blazer sleeves where the buttons are real and can be undone, not just sewn on the side for decoration). The work was high quality, the blazer fits just how I wanted it to, and the tailor had no problem working with me to figure out how to do this ""special"" job. I would recommend this tailor for whatever you need done because the care and detail taken will not disappoint. Pros: Price, quality, serivce, location more

Waste of Time & Money - Consumer Beware! 5/24/2007

I took 5 pairs of men's pants and a suit to this tailor for simple alterations. While the turn-around time was great, we soon realized why. Only 1 of the items was satisfactory. My husband spent 40 minutes being pinned and explaining what changes needed to be made to each garment. With the exception of some hemmed cuffs, none of the alterations were done. When we returned, we were told we would have to pay more to have the items altered. It was mind boggling! The seamstress actually argued with us. Completely unprofessional. In the end, she returned $12 of our $115 payment. We went across the street to Lee's Tailor's in Crabtree and spent another $45 to have everything fixed. I would not reccomend this business to anyone. Brave the mall parking and visit a true professional. Cons: Many more

Best tailor in Raleigh!! 12/23/2006

I had my wedding gown alter at Duke's Tailor. The job was wonderful. The tailor were knowledgeable and very helpful. I order my dress from bridal store. I loss weight more than I expect. The side had to be taken in. Strap were too long. Gown had to be hem. The seamstress did the bustle for me. My gown fit me perfectly at the end. They also do steaming. I save a lot of money compare to other tailor charge for bridal gown. I am so happy I found Duke's Tailor. Pros: quality, service, knowledge, price more
