I'm picky and I like this one far better than any of the other chow foods restaurants. When I go there, I go for one thing: Seafood. I often stick to the regulars such as ""Simp...

My Favorite Brunch Spot 4/18/2005

I love this restaurant, particularly for brunch. The servings are huge and the creations are daring and full of flavor. Additionally the place has a very down home feel and is friendly to kids, giving it a sort of young hip familial atmosphere. And the wait staff are super accommodating (even to a Mom, like me, with a squirmy 1 year old). The menu changes every three months (not the entire menu, just featured items) to present a cuisine from a different coastal city. Along with the menu change, the decor changes. Creative, warm and fun. I can't say enough good things about this place. It's become one of my favorite weekend haunts. Pros: Brunch, Atmosphere, Staff Cons: dinner is pricey more

What A Great Place! 10/7/2004

Went there on a recommendation from a friend and couldn't have been happier. Their 3 for $20 is an amazing deal. It wouldn't be a bargain if the food wasn't good, but it was. The service was prompt, knowlegeable and friendly. Can't wait to go back and try the new menu this season! Pros: Inventive Menu, Good Ambience more

simply wonderful 7/19/2004

my husband and i had a lovely brunch there last saturday. the food was yummy. the best part was the service. the waitress was so attentive. she happily produced a spot of steamed milk for my coffee, which servers at more high-end establishments tend to be bothered by. she even went to the trouble of finding out whether the sausages are made of pork or beef (which i cannot eat for religious reasons). and i never saw the bottom of my coffee cup. these folks know how to do brunch. what a wonderful way to spend a saturday afternoon. Pros: wonderful service, great comfort food, warm decor more

Good for lunch & brunch 5/26/2004

This makes a great lunch or brunch hangout because they update their menu with new themes on a consistant basis. My favorite item on their regular menu is the heuvos rancheros - the best in the city as far as I am concerned. I love the black beans and fresh salsa they use in this. Although, you do need to add hot sauce when it arrives to ""kick it up a notch"". Pros: rotating theme menu, huevos rancheros, funky atmosphere Cons: , often cold or breezy more

So good, and they teach language too! 5/12/2004

The food is excellent, and not only that, they play a tape of common sayings in whatever language is local to the current theme, and their translations in english, in the bathroom!! Pros: Good service, Never empty more

An oasis on the Hill! 9/18/2003

Costal Kitchen is fabulous! I go for breakfast on a regular basis (best in Seattle) and have dinner there at least four times a year (each time they rotate their menu). The food is very tasty and the service is most attentive. My favorite aspect of dining their is the art! They change it quarterly with the menu. And the language lessons in the restroom are to die for! As a rule Capitol Hill doesn't have that much to offer, Coastal Kitchen is undoubtedly the exception! Get on their mailing list and check them out! Pros: Interesting cuisine, Nurturing service, Fabulous Art more

Waitstaff annoying 6/23/2003

The Jamaican menu was tasty, but not authentic. I have it on good authority that the corn they served me was soaken in sugar water before it was grilled. Gross!! Also, while the waiter was attentive, I found him to be really patronizing in attempting to make cutsie conversation while we were dining. Just leave us alone and let us enjoy each other's company. Pros: Spendy Cons: Patronizing waitstaff, Inauthentic cuisine more

Wow!! 4/2/2003

The food here is fantastic. I mean fantastic. My husband had a religious experience with his catfish, and the fried oysters were amazing. The hushpuppies and other fritters were light and wonderful, the key lime pie was killer.... I'll be back very soon. The long wait was the only drawback, and a glass of wine in the bar soothed that considerably. I do wish the oysters were a main dish, not an appetizer, but hey, with a split appetizer and dessert it was plenty. Pros: amazing food, good service, decent prices Cons: long wait more

warmth wins 1/16/2003

After waiting for almost 25 min last friday night, I was sat at a table by the front door. I was freezing!! When we asked the host if we could move, instead of being snotty about it she bussed a table in the back and moved us right over. The kicker is she offered to move a space heater over to the table to warm up. I was floored!! The food was pretty good (especially the pork tenderloin), but what made it for me was the exceptional service we received. Pros: service Cons: parking, parking, parking!!!! more

The food was ok, but not good enough to make up for the terrible service i experienced. It is definitely not the only show in town more
