Best

I took my husband here for his birthday a few years ago because he had always wanted to try foie gras. We both had the wine tasting menu and although it was close to $200 it is st...

I give this review in the context of having paid $300 for a meal and my expectations of such an experience. On New Years Eve and the anniversary for my fiancee and I, we patroned...

Fantastic 3/26/2006

Absolutely fantastic and great service from our waitress. Try the eight course tasting menu - superb!! more

Not blown away but... 3/22/2006

Had the 8 course dinner paired with the wine. The wife and I had a great seat on a clear day as the sun set. First course...cold shrimp (fresh from the deli tray?). The other courses much better. Not a great start out of the gate. The wine was good...not great, but well paired. Really, the only issue I have is the value. $275 (including tip) for dinner for two. Good food...yes. Good wine...yes. Great?...no. I have paid much less (hundreds of different places) for much better. I would put a price tag of about $150 to $180 on what we got for food, wine, service and scenery. The waitress was great...Claudia is her name I think. I may go back sometime...maybe when I get a raise. Pros: Location, Pretty at sunset, Great server Cons: Value more

What a wonderful experience... 1/29/2006

My wife and I recently had dinner at Chez Shea, which was really a good experience. We ordered four course menus, and I had duck confit which was prepared and presented perfectly. My wife said the sea scallops were excellent. Good service and good atmosphere. We will definitely come back again. Pros: Foods, Service, Atmosphere more

Disappointed 1/26/2006

Good service, very 'flat' and cold atmosphere. Uncomfortable seating and the food was just ok. definately not memorable and expansive for what you get. Wine is overpriced. more

Enthralled start to finish 1/14/2006

Spent a midweek night at Chez Shea, with my wife and another couple, and was truly amazed with every aspect of our 8 course paired wine dinner. You cannot go wrong here if it is a first date, or a couples night out...food and service are both first rate! As a restaurant manager, food addict, and wine lover; this place hit all my hot buttons for perfection, and left us all in a blissful food coma. I simply cannot strongly enough recommend this restaurant to friends, family, and guests in my restaurant looking for fabulous French fare, graciously served. Pros: Food, Wine, Service Cons: Nothing more

No words to describe... 10/31/2005

This place is wonderful! We went in with high expectations because it got such good reviews from other guests. Now we understand why. We ordered the 4 course menu, and enjoyed every dish they set in front of us. Even the Ahi tartare, which seemed out of place in the French inspired menu, fit in perfectly. The portion sizes were just right, so by the end of the fourth course, I didn't feel uncomfortably full. There is a good wine selection, and the server was knowledge about the different wines. She was also attentive without being intrusive. If you are looking for a place to have an unforgettable gastronomic experience, this is definately the place. Pros: price, service Cons: hard to find more

Absolutely WONDERFUL!! 8/30/2005

This place gives it all -- food, service and atmosphere. By far our favorite restaurant in Seattle. The food is fresh, done perfectly with the seasons and always interesting. The service is spectacular, the staff anticiapte every need with a quiet, unassuming nature that is so refreshing and welcoming -- as if you are dining at their home. Incredibly romantic -- dine at sunset and the golden rays stream over the water behind you into the high arched winows of a very old European styled decor. The cool breeze only enhances the experience with a little Nat King Cole playing in the background. Perfect!!! Pros: EVERYTHING! more

What's so great about this place? 3/25/2005

I dined alone at Chez Shea March 2005. I had as good a seat as there was, but the view was mostly a brick wall. I had a 3 course prix fixe. The food was good, but nothing exceptional. The wait staff was very friendly and professional. I may return there sometime, but I think there are lots of other fine places to try! Pros: nicely decorated, friendly wait staff Cons: expensive, only good, not great more

Loved it! 2/10/2005

Went there for anniversary dinner with my boyfriend and really loved it. We were told upon making reservations that a table with a view was not available but when we got there we were right next to the window. Loved the food and for our dinner the service was impeccable. Waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. I thought the atmosphere was very romantic and overall the experience was great Pros: Romantic, Great food, Great Service Cons: Hard to find, Expensive more

Great Food/Service, everything else OK 10/13/2004

Visited Seattle from October 4, 2004 to the 10th from San Diego. Ate here on the 6th. I've read about it and I guess my expectations were high. The food and service is excellent. However, the ambience and location isn't all that great. It is small and intimate(about a dozen or less tables), but the decor is a mixed bag of Orient, old Waterfront, and European. The little chandelier decor made me feel like I was in a Disneyland haunted house. The view is blocked by Pike Place Market and you can only partially see the Bay. Again, the food and service were excellent. Go here for the food, but I wouldn't necessary call this a romantic spot. If you can, visit the restaurant and see for yourself if you like the ambiance. If you do, go for it because you will be satisfied with the food. Pros: Great Food, Great Service Cons: , Lacks full Bay view more

A wonderful evening 10/10/2004

Expert service, an excellent wine list, respectable portions of imaginative, expertly-prepared food, a responsive reservation process, and a happy wife make my visit to Chez Shea an unqualified success. Pros: Service, Food, Wine list more

Superb Choice 10/7/2004

Have wanted to try Chez for awhile, and we were so happy we finally did. The ambience was so peaceful and romantic, watching the sun set over Elliott Bay. The prix fixe menu was outstanding. Had tried Cascadia previously and felt so let down after leaving there. This place puts Cascadia to shame. Try it for an elegant dinner and you will be pleased! Pros: Delicious Food, Wonderful Ambience, Romantic more

Great Discovery! 8/11/2004

I frequent restaurants all over the Northwest, but only recently discovered Shez Shea, with its wonderfully warm and cozy hideaway atmosphere, and a pleasant view of the Sound. I found the service to be perfectly balanced--attentive, but unobtrusive. I took my oldest son, a high school teacher, and we both thought the food was beyond praise, aka ""to die for."" A great place to take a date, celebrate an anniversary, or meet up with friends! Pros: atmosphere, service, gourment cuisine more

Special Occasion Place 1/2/2003

Wonderfully romantic and intimate dining experience and setting. Dinners are well-paced; food is well prepared--if a little predictable. Staff is friendly and attentive. Would definitely go back again. more

You Might be missing something 10/11/2002

We had dinner here recently, celebrating our 2nd anniversary. The food was exceptional. All 4 courses were exquisite and stand outs. The service was also exceptional. The waitress knew how to read the table and modulate the service. We always ask for rose petals on the table. You might try it! They can even accommodate this. Pros: service, food, ambience Cons: parking more

Easily the best spot for a romantic date 9/3/2002

Everything at Chez Shea sets you up for that perfect romantic evening. There's a cozy bar out front for that before dinner drink...a snug table for two along the window banquet...the intimate lighting and decor...and the food! Of note, the price fixed meals encourage conversation about each other rather than the menu! Pros: Romantic, Price fixed meals Cons: Not good for groups more

Very good, but not great 6/15/2002

Chez Shea has the feeling (and reputation) of a restaurant utterly confident of its place at the top of the list. But it's not entirely deserved. The food is very good but not the best in Seattle. Prices are high, yet the decor is quite plain, beyond rustic -- I don't agree that it's particularly romantic, unlike the connected Shea's Lounge which is. Service is professional but rather curt. I'll go back, but I won't hurry. Several more enjoyable restaurants are within walking distance. Strongest point, the ""neato factor"" of eating right at the Market, can be matched by nearby Place Pigalle which is better. Pros: Quality, Creativity, Location Cons: Atmosphere, High price more
