Tasty and expensive ITTY BITTY portions 6/9/2007

I have to say that I truly love the space that makes up Chez Shea. It is cute and intimate and always makes me feel like I am in a movie as I look out across the market roof. I cannot say that I feel the same fondness for the food, however. Although it is very tasty, the portions are so small that it almost is not worth eating there! It is one of those restaurants where everything is exquisitely presented, but underneath the sprouts and fancy sauce, there isn?t much there. I have eaten there three times and each time my party and I left to go somewhere else for a late night snack despite the fact that we had already spent over $150.00! My recommendation would be to start off at Chez Shea for a drink and an appetizer and then to go somewhere else for the rest of your meal! Pros: Romantic space Cons: Too expensive for portion size. more

Intimate, lovely atmosphere, great food, good service 6/6/2007

I've been to Chez Shea twice in the last year, and was happy both times. My first time there we went withfriends and it was wonderful--it was a set menu, slightly different to what they have now (less choices in the courses, except the entree). The service was wonderful. The first two courses are set, (first course was a tart)with a choice of the third course and entree. I was allergic to the first course, so they made something separate for me. My husband ordered the beef, which was perfect, and I had the vegetarian option (an amazing take on lasanga--layers of crepe, bechemel sauce and vegetables). The second time there were choices for each course as it is now; again wonderful service, excellent beef tenderloin, but the duck was only okay. Still, I would definately go back. Pros: Wonderful food, service and ambience Cons: Duck was overdone more

Overrated .. 6/2/2007

In my honest opinion, this French restaurant is way overrated... However, the place is both romantic and creepy.. We ordered the tasting menu, well, the food taste's below what we're expecting and it's pricey for a small restaurant like this. The service was very good though.. Pros: Prompt service Cons: Pricey, food is just OK. more

Intimate and great food! 6/1/2007

Very intimate setting and not too noisy. I like the fact the restaurant is a little hidden, I think it's part of the charm. I had a couple of signature cocktails, all very tasty. I also enjoyed all three courses there. I had the lemon tart for dessert, it was flaky, soft, and flavorful. Overall the experience was excellent! more

best restaurant in Seattle 4/18/2007

Everything about this place was perfect. The food to the view to the impeccable service, this was more than dinner it was an event. We ordered the chef's menu and our server timed each course perfectly. The food was inventive and amazing. The wine paired perfectly. At first being sat, I was concerned about what seemed closely spaced tables but it turned out not to be an issue. This place struck all the right notes creating a perfect intimate delicious experience. Pros: tucked away market location, service, food Cons: nothing should stop you from visiting more

Nice Lounge 1/9/2007

I am new in Seattle, and try to find good restaurants and bars in town. Of some great experiences so far, I really like Chez Shea's 3-course price-fixed menu available in the lounge. $25 per person with some entree choices. It is a casual lounge but has a nice view and the ambience is warm and intimate. Service can be a little bit slow when the lounge is filled, but still very friendly. I will try Chez Shea main dining room soon. Pros: Foods, Ambience, Good Value Cons: None, but service can be slow more

Chez Nay 1/4/2007

I give this review in the context of having paid $300 for a meal and my expectations of such an experience. On New Years Eve and the anniversary for my fiancee and I, we patroned Chez Shea and found them to be below expectations. We were initially ignored when we entered despite the fact that their were employees who were not occupied. We had to request to have our coats hung up and were told by the hostess to remind her to get it for us when we left (as we left we retrieved the coats ourselves from the closet as no one was around). Of the six course meal only one of the appetizers and the dessert made me go ""mmm"", the rest was nothing special. The service was average and not especially nice. The waitress only poured the taster pour of wine for my partner and did not pour me a glass to test. The atmosphere is nice (we sat in the lounge) and the specialty drinks were very yummy. But, overall, a great disappointment to our budget and our special nite. more

Great setting, wonderful food 11/26/2006

I took my girlfriend here and we had a great time. The setting is excellent and food was very good. My girlfriend got a salad and soup and loved it. I got a steak and it was one of the best I've had. Pros: Great food, great setting Cons: A little spendy but worth it more

Great food, poor service 11/5/2006

Went in for my birthday (A Sunday at 7:30pm) and was seated as far away from the window as possible...even though we had told the woman taking our reservation that we would be celebrating a birthday. After being seated it took at least 10 minutes for the waitress to greet us and bring water. Only 1 waitress was working the entire (albeit small) restaurant, so service was minimal besides dropping the food off. We were not asked how each dish was, only had the dirty plates picked up. The waitress also spilled part of my girlfriends martini on the table, and didn't offer to get her a new one. Pros: Excellent ambience, great food, large drink selection Cons: Minimal customer service more

Love love love this place 11/2/2006

Great food, romantic and great location. so many choices and all plates are amazing! Pros: food, anbience more

Very romantic, small intimate experience with food to die for. 10/28/2006

This is the place where couples get engaged. The food is fabulous and it is in the market. The tables are a bit too close together and the fixed price menu is a bit too much (indigestion is not that romantic). Pros: View Cons: Tables close together more

What a great evening!!!! 10/20/2006

This was our first trip to Seattle. What a wonderful dining experience Chez Shea turned out to be. The food, wine, service and atmosphere were great. The restaurant is in a hard to find location so leave time to look for it. Pros: food, wine, service and atmosphere more

Custom Experience 8/25/2006

Nothing but raves even when there was opportunity for a small rant. From the start which was speaking with dinner mgr. Lotta to confirm a party of 8 for a 40th birthday it was fun and smooth. We were not the traditional Chez clients. Yet, lotta was able to accomodate us with everything we requested; 8pm res, flowers from the market on the table, drink for the bday girl upon arrival, a sunset view of the sound for all the people the visiting guests, and a custom cake served without announcement to finish (they don't sing-haha). Pros: Service, Food Cons: only possible prob is parking more

Classin' it up at Chez Shea! 8/21/2006

Chez Shea completely impressed me from start to finish! I was immediately enamored with the restaurants hidden location in Pike Place Market, and the interior decor was uniquely lovely. Our party of two received a cheerful greeting from the hostess, and our server was exceptionally warm and professional without being over-the-top. Arguably one of Seattles more premiere restaurants, Chez Shea understands that snobby does not equal classy. Pros: Excellent food, lovely service more

A long and luxurious dinner - well worth the price 7/9/2006

My husband and I visited Chez Shea after hearing about their tasting menu, and we were not disappointed. We both ordered the seven-course menu (there was a four-course option, but we wanted something more), and the flight of wines. Pros: Excellent tasting menu and wines, wonderful seasonal ingredients, inventive flavours Cons: Parking, slightly crowded tables, a bit hard to find. more

A Delectable Feast 6/18/2006

Why wander all over the world for that delectable feast when it is right here in Seattle at Chez Shea? The eight course tasting menu with five wine pairings easily rivaled other great dining moments in Manhattan, Paris, Barcelona and Tokyo. Of special note were the local oysters which retained their full flavor from not being over chilled, served with a brut Rose; rare Kobe style tenderloin wrapped in crisp, paper thin prosciutto served with a Sangiovese; a balanced selection of bleu, triple cream, and medium firm goat cheeses; and a refreshingly delicate, piped pavlova topped with key lime mousse. The graceful service was impeccable. Pros: Ambience, service and presentation more

Great place 5/8/2006

Really good food and service. We live in the Bay Area, so the bar for a "good meal" is very high, but Chez Shea was absolutely awesome. more

Blissful 4/25/2006

I recently was surprised with a meal here by my boyfriend. We did not have reservations, however we were graciously accomodated and seated at a table by the window. We had a gorgeous view of the setting sun, so the ambiance was wonderful. The food was impeccable, every mouthful a delight on my tastebuds. The service was also wonderful. I can easily see how this was rated as Seattle's most romantic restaurant. I am an incurable romantic and it hit me right with everything!! Pros: Romantic, Wonderful Service, Exquisite Dining Cons: NONE!! more
