awful experience 12/30/2007

After calling to see if they still had any '07 Sportages in stock and told to hurry in because they had one left, my sister and I (who are 24 and 22 year old women) went to look at the car. Upon arriving they said that they had just sold the '07 but could get me a great deal on an '08. After being there for several hours, they had a deal written up with the final price of the vehicle (which the MSRP for was 22,000) at $30,000. Every Sportage in stock had tinted windows, the anti-theft etching, and "special" carpets, which added over $2,000 to the price of the vehicle and probably cost them next to nothing to install. They tried to sneak in the fact that the financing was over a 72 month term, as opposed to a 60 month term, which caused the overall cost to skyrocket. When I realized this the finance manager said "Oh, the salesman didn't tell you that we were talking about a 6 year plan? Probably not I guess..." We left with the car and the deal with a 48-hour contingency attached so that I could get my dad's approval, and upon realizing how badly we were scammed took the car back immediately. They then kept us there for another 45 minutes, negotiated the car down to a total of $24,000, and said that they would give me that deal and would be taking a 2,500 dollar loss in the sale. We insisted several times that we simply wanted the paperwork and the down payment check shredded or returned to us and to leave, and they still persisted in trying to sell us the car. In all, it was a waste of a perfectly good Saturday that left me feeling scammed and humiliated, and dealing with my furious father. Tomorrow I will be going to Southpoint. more

Liars 12/5/2007

I had recently just gone out to Capital Kia... (Buyers beware!) I had this young man contact me over the phone saying I was approved for a loan all I had to do was come in and pick out the vehicles and talk numbers. I was merely just looking over options when this guy had called me. I had asked him if I had needed any money today because if that was the case I was going to have to do it another day because I was just seeing what was out there for me. He said no I did not and They could even work with me on insurance so that I could be covered up to a month before I had to get the car covered. I had asked him several times about not having the money today and I was reassured every time. So, I drive all the way out there to have the guy I was talking to on the phone not say one word to me when we were introduced and for him to pawn us off on to two other people. They were very unprofessional and didn't really seem to know too much about their inventory. We were left outside for awhile before someone came back out to tell me what I had needed to do which was a complete contradiction to what was said over the phone. That was the second kia dealership I have visited and both times I have left with a bad taste in my mouth. No kia dealership will get my business. I want honest people and honest product knowledge. more

Like a bunch of frickin vultures 9/13/2007

I went to Capitol Kia yesterday after seeing a 2004 Trailblazer listed on their site for $3k, the only vehicle I was really interested in... Before we even got close to a parking space, we had a salesman waving us into one, who proceeded to usher us inside and went to get the internet sales woman I'd talked to on the phone earlier about that vehicle... I had to take my son to the bathroom, and while I was in there, my girlfriend told me that woman had told our salesman that the vehicle we were interested in was sold that morning (a fact she neglected to mention when I called her about it in the afternoon)... This didn't phase him... Without letting me know this, he walks me out to a 2007 model and starts praising it, and when I ask if this is the one from the internet (before he mentioned the year), he said no that one sold this morning, but this is an '07 and I can cut you a "smokin deal" on it... I told him I was only interested in that one because it was an SUV and it was cheap with low mileage on it... So he starts showing me some other SUV's, all in the 16k price range, my girlfriend tells him he must have missed (ignored) the point that we were looking for something cheap... So he takes us to their base model Spectra, no A/C, no power anything, priced at a reasonable $7900... but he can cut me a smokin deal on it... I say no dice, he takes me to another car that's "more in my price range" but is sold, and we finally decide to just leave... He says wait, let me call one of our other locations and see if they have anything more in line with what you're looking for... We tell him they're on our way home and we can just stop by them on our own... He says "wait let me just make one phone call real quick!" and runs inside... By the time we walk around to the front of the place where we're parked, he's out there waiting for us with his "floor manager" (who knows how many of these guys they have in addition to their army of salesmen)... He talks me into looking at 1 more car in the very back corner of the lot, so I walk out, it's a 2001 Galant w/ 70k miles on it... By the time I'm making my way back to the front, the floor manager meets me and says he was able to "work the price down" to about $4200 plus tax... I say that might work, intending to leave anyway, and they go to move the car up to the front so I can test drive it... I head for the car, but stop in to tell the internet sales lady I don't know where those 2 guys disappeared to but I'm gonna go look around at other places, tell them I said bye... Her response: Oh, well I'm sure he'd like to say goodbye to you himself... of course he would... I wait for about 30 seconds, then just walk to the car and get in... Before we can back out 2 feet, another "floor manager" comes running out of the building waving his arms for us to stop, and stands by my window... When I roll down the window he tries more strongarm tactics, asking what I'm looking for, what price range, what kinds of payments I'm looking to make, they're sure they can find something I like, and I finally tell him we're just gonna go look at other places... He says well I'm telling you right now we can beat any deal out there... So I tell him well then let me go out and get some deals for you to beat... Finally they let us go, but damn, those salespeople are like a bunch of frickin vultures... Oh, and by the way, the 2001 Galant that they "worked down" to $4200 for me? I found it listed on Austin's Craigslist a little while ago, listed as of a week prior to my visit, at $3995... What a bunch of humanitarians, working the price down to more than that for me... more

2006 Kia Sedona Purchase 7/19/2007

My wife and I decided we liked the Kia Sedona over other minivans, specifically because of the lower price. As the other reviews state, the salesman definitely swarm over you, and they are very, very high pressure. They initially work on what your monthly payments will be, which can be very deceiving as the final price of the car is not covered in this discussion. I came in with a pre-approved loan from my bank, and after talking with one salesman for a while, whose tactics I didn't really like, somehow I got onto Jinu, another salesman. With my pre-approved loan, we talked final numbers. Jinu was very cool, lower pressure, and he didn't seem like he was trying to screw me. When I left, I felt like I got a good deal according to all the research I had done, and of course they got a good deal too. Carson took care of all the paperwork, and after working with him, I ended up going with their loan financing, which was better than my banks. There was a manager involved in there somewhere who was a bit crazy, but Jinu and Carson definitely made the sale and were of excellent character. Service has it's pros and cons. Service is very slow, often requiring scheduling well in advance. You pretty much always have to leave your car. It won't come back clean and "detailed", even though they say it will. But, they will do anything and everything in their power to make sure any and all work is covered under warranty, often even if you are outside your first 36000 miles. We have another Kia around 40000 miles that I haven't had to pay anything to get fixed, even though I'm sure some of the items worked on were outside the warranty. more

Poor Salesmanship 7/13/2007

I was very disappointed w/ the service and professionalism my family and I received on 7/12/07 at Capital KIA. It was 5:50pm when my wife, daughter and I drove up to the lot and there was a man waiting next to my door to greet me. I can’t remember the man’s name but he was tan w/ dark hair and a thin ‘whiskery’ goatee. I told the gentleman that we were only there for only a very brief time to look at the KIA Sedona EX since we had previous engagement that would limit our time. After we looked at the vehicle I said thank you for showing us the car but we have to go now so we’re not late to dinner. He asked if we could take a quick test drive and I told him again ‘no we need to leave let’s schedule something for tomorrow’. So I scheduled a time to test drive the car tonight 7/13/07 at 5:00pm. We began to walk back to the front of the lot when the man said ‘come on inside for a minute and let me get your contact information and register you to win a 50’ plasma TV. I said okay since how long could it take to give him my number and address. We got to the front office and he told us to have a seat at one of the empty tables in the lobby so we sat down and he came over w/ a piece of paper and started asking me my information. After about 1 minute he said thank you and he’d ‘be right back’ I told my wife after about 10minutes of waiting to go ahead and start the car and wait for me it shouldn’t be too much longer. So after about 10 minutes he came back over w/ a bunch of numbers on a piece of paper w/ a monthly payment. I was very turned off by this sales tactic and just went along w/ his sales pitch. After about another 5 minutes passed we’re pushing ‘extremely’ late and I really just wanted to get out of there because as I stated before we already talked about coming back the following day. Well since I went along w/ his pitch w/ the sticker price of the car at 31k and I told him I configured one on the internet w/ the exact same features for 27k he said ‘okay be right back’ and just got up and went over to the manager station. About another 5 minutes I was getting angry because I wanted to leave since we were already extremely late for our dinner. He came back and said ‘great news my manager approved the 27k price lets fill out this quick credit application’ I said ‘I’m sorry I already told you I’ve had to go numerous times and now I’m just going to leave, I will be back tomorrow at the appointment time we’ve discussed’. I walked out of the building got in my car put it in reverse and a manager ran up to my car and stood RIGHT NEXT to my car! So I rolled the window down and he said ‘can you give us 5 minutes’ at this point I was appalled by this sort of salesmanship. I even heard a man curse at some other salesmen to get their butts outside because cars were pulling up. Very rude and very unprofessional especially with children present. more

Great service! 3/27/2006

I purchased my car from then in 2004 and I have gotten nothing but great service from them. They have honored the warranty every step of the way and have done everything in their power to make things right for me. I am very happy with my car. The salesmen do swarm you the minute you park in front of the dealership...normally I'm not even out of my car yet...but I think this is probably normal for most dealerships. more

Should read: One Salesman per Customer! 8/28/2005

We recently went Car shopping for a new Car for my husband. We drove into Capital Kia on a Saturday evening and the Salesman started swarming like bees! We were looking for Mike the Salesman we talked to on the phone so we thought we were ok. He wasn't there when we got there so Sam started helping us. We picked out a car, test drove it, and he decided it was the car he liked. The paperwork was started. We weren't able to complete the loan process because it was so late (and on a weekend) so he told us to take the car we picked out, drive it and come back on Monday. No problem. Monday we were back out there. Sam wasn't there! So Dave started helping us with the remaining paperwork, 30 minutes later Dave disappeared and here comes Tom (Not their real names...) the Sales Manager. Finally 3 hours later it was completed, but it didn't end with Dave! Another guy came in and finished the paperwork! It shouldn't have been so confusing. I wonder who finally ended up with the Sale??! more
