Rude, cooler than thou hipsters run this place. They act like their jobs are super-important, and treat their customers -especially the ones selling their clothes to them - like crap. They won't buy clothes from anyone. Meanwhile their racks are full of bad thrift store crap. Get a life idiots. more

Snotty bitch clerks 12/22/2011

The clothes are cool & the prices are awesome. But overall I'm not real fond of clerks being real bitches to me, ya know? Last night, the clerks made fun of me for being extra-large (I'm a size 6). I pull up in a Porsche 911, rocking Harley boots, black fishnets, black lace fingerless gloves, a short crenoline rock skirt, long blonde hair & a black leather jacket & they tell me sight unseen they won't buy my used clothes because my style wouldn't be cool enough for them.. I wait in line for an hour to sell them my used clothes, in perfect condition, folded in plastic bags & without even looking them over the clerk throws them on the floor & then wads them up in my box & shoves the boots & shoes on top of them & says they wouldn't take anything like that ~ which included a buttery brown leather bomber jacket, They have cool clothes, but they have some crap in there too, the worst fashions of the 1970s & such, I call there the next day & another clerk sort of apologizes & tells me to give it another shot. I give it another shot last night, with a little black dress I wore to a JJ Cale disc release, high-healed sneakers, a vintage emerald green velvet evening gown, yada yada, wait 30 to 45 minutes in line for a snotty clerk to say they take only things like Addidas workout clothes that still have the tags on them. What a total load of crap. more

I totally found my new place to shop! 9/9/2011

Dont know why i keep going back. i just really used them. 9/3/2010

ok so yeah i go back again and again. ive been going there for 3 yrs and i pretty much know what they will buy when i sell. And it also depends on the buyer so i always know what buyer is going to be too picky. i always do the trade there because i never get enough cash to where it feels worth selling, so i just do trade. i usually find myself selling the cloths i bought from there. so all in all we are exchanging cloths. i have been to other buffalo exchange and they are much worst. the cloths that they sell really are ugly. they sell the same style and nothing is ever in style. the shoes are ugly and their hangbags are soo old and not cool. i wish it was like it was back when they opened. they need to stop hiring their friends to work there and hire different age and styles. my grammer sucks. sorry. more

Cool clothes 11/24/2009

Not to say everyone who works there is inattentive, but there seem to be a good number of employees that really enjoy ignoring customers. On the positive...still one of my favorite stores to find the unusual. Pros: stuff you can't find anywhere else Cons: staff is slow more

Satan runs this store 11/10/2009

It’s a thrift store….nothing more. I find the same items here that I would find at Goodwill and Savers, except Buffalo runs more expensive. The sales people are pure wicked, which I think is because they are being controlled by Satan. Oh, and never try to sell here. I tried to sell brand new items and slightly used items – DKNY, Prada, and Banana Republic….they wouldn’t take any of it. I’ve gone twice to sell and will never do it again. They judge you – not your clothes. Honestly, these people need a course in common courtesy and customer service. I have never understood why people take a job in retail, when they hate people. Pros: NOTHING Cons: Dirty store, Evil Salespeople, Horrible Prices and Selection more

This Place is Awful DO NOT SELL HERE !!! 9/12/2009

This place is horrible. I went here to try to sell a pair of new $100 jeans and they said that they wern't good enough for the store. The employees judge weather your clothes are good enough by what your wearing. That b#t@h looked at one shirt and was already unimpressed. she didn't even bother to look at anything else. she simply said that we can dontae this to charity if you like ??? what the ??? thoes clothes go right back on the storerack marked up to $15. They are jus rude people who think they are so cool just because they are weaing tights with holes. They walk around with thoes ugly peircings and tattos like theyr'e runway models and they so arn't NEVER SHOP HERE !!! Pros: okay clothes at okay prices Cons: rude, snotty, stuck up employees more

Don't bring your nice clothes. They don't do classy here. 4/7/2009

Ugh, I just got back from the hipster hell that is Buffalo Exchange, and just a warning: a fair amount of bitterness follows. I brought some classy designer items in perfect condition to sell, and they didn't want any of them. I'm talking Betsey Johnson, BCBG, Neiman Marcus, etc. At first I was a bit bruised (because the snotty employees always make you feel like they are rejecting you and your style personally, and every snob working there thinks they're unique and cool with their ripped black tights, facial piercings and filthy hair--ask anyone who really knows how to rock the vintage look, and they would tell you that Austin hipsters are formulaic and tired. Here's a truly unique idea: DON'T get a tattoo or a facial piercing! But I digress....) Anyway, on my way out I looked around at the racks, and I suddenly had an epiphany: every piece of clothing in there is faded, wrinkled, ripped up trash. Like it came out of the bottom of the Goodwill reject pile. I don't mean that the clothes are in bad shape, I mean that the only clothes they think are cool enough to buy and sell are the ones that look like trash on purpose. I believe ""distressed"" is the adjective du jour. Anyway, if BE is on the cutting edge of trends, and the trend is trash, then I am happy to take my non-trendy clothes right back to my closet. Cons: snobby hipster employees, gross clothes, no parking more

Coolest castoffs around: Yeah right!!! 2/4/2009

If you want to be treated like dirt by a buyer that dresses like she is a 1980's mental patient then this place is the place for you. Not only do they look down on you by the way you dress before they have even seen your stuff but they give you practically nothing for it , then turn around and sell it for 5 times as much. \r Message to the sellers: wake up B#$c*@s! you work in a Thrift store, not for a designer in Paris or Milan!!!\r If I could give this store a negative rating I would. Pros: Sometimes find a designer piece at an OK price. Cons: Everything: Rip off, rude staff, dirty store and change rooms, lots of junk. more

RIP OFF 1/25/2009

The employees who select the clothes to buy have absolutely no system of selection. They will rip you off when you try to sell your good clothes. Don't waste your time or money at this place. Pros: Local Cons: bad, random selection, employees are rude more

Buffalo Bulls**t 10/11/2008

I have been to Buffalo Exchange a few times and pretty much accept those trips as a few hours of my life I'll never get back. I read some of the other poor reviews on this site and generally agree. They have their hipster employees scowl at the stuff you bring in to knock you down a notch and make you think it's worthless so that you'll sell it to them at a really low price. They then turn around and mark it up 600% and sell it to the other hipster sheep in the store with too much money in their pockets. Save you time and energy. Give your stuff to goodwill or salvation army where the profits will go to people who really need the help.\r \r Pros: None worth mentioning. Cons: Can't be bothered to list them. more

Bargain Hunting Pays Off! 7/27/2008

I just discovered Buffalo Exchange about two months ago, but I have had nothing but great experiences! I went in to sell some old clothes that I'd outgrown, and since I was a first timer, the super sweet buyer explained their system to me. If they decide to buy something from you, they mark it with a price right away. You either get 50% of their sell price in store credit or 30% in cash. Not too shabby! She also explained that certain brands (like from Target or Old Navy), they don't usually buy because the store trends change so often. Makes sense and seems pretty reasonable to me. Their inventory constantly changes and since they buy from random people, their selection is always random. I have found some great deals here, you may just have to spend some time looking for them! Pros: Ever-changing selection Cons: Parking is a pain more

retail doesnt mean that your in the ""fashion industry"" 7/22/2008

snooty store employees who think they are on the cutting edge of fashion... allow me to let you in on a little well known secret: no one who has been out of texas much less austin thinks you are a fashionista. your frumpy 80's dress, lame headband and cowboy boots make you look like a tool and not the runway model you think you are. this place is a joke. you get judged more on what you look like than what you have come to sell. if you arent dressed like a ""buyer"" or store employee than they pretty much let you know. i find better deals at the thrift stores than here. its also a pain to get to. overpriced used stuff with fickle buyers that have poor taste, poor selection and bad attitudes. Pros: some good stuff Cons: over priced, not worth the effort or irritation to find good items or sell more

bad service. 7/1/2008

The first few times that I went to the exchange I was unimpressed with what i saw. used t-shirts at prices that you'd see at a retail store. The first time I sold, however, I was happy. I recieved 30 bux for a box full of junk clothes that my mom gave my girlfreind (that she never would wear...clothes I'll add she bought at walmart) the next time I went in (with some of the same junk they wouldn't take the last time and a few of my own things) I got about 70$. This last time today I went in with designer jeans and slacks and a few hoodies (zooyork, famous exc..) some brand new polo's that still had tags on them (some of the pants even had the tags on them) AND THE B*#$h WORKING THE COUNTER WOULDNT TAKE ANY OF IT!..she offered me 20$ for a famous hoody I paid 100$ for...I reluctantly agreed to that because I needed the gas money after being screwed over by a promoter at a gig in the valley. I also brought back an old blazer that I figured someone overtly trendy would love and she says ""this isnt something we'd EVER buy"" which was kind of funny..being that I bought it there in the first place. (yes I informed her of that..she had nothing to say other than..""well..i'm not buying it""..all this being said..I walked to the check out counter to get what I thought was going to be 20$ for the famous hoody and was handed 6$!!!... I responded with ""the ticket says 19.99""..to which he responded..""thats instore credit..you'd only get 6$ out the door""..I politely handed the money back to him and went back to the smelly dirty blonde hippy that gave me the ticket and asked for my jacket back..before handing it back she removed a price tag that was already placed on it for 60$!!...THEY WERE GOING TO GIVE ME 6$ FOR MY JACKET AND SALE IT FOR 60$!!!!!\r So i've come to the conclusion that what you get for your trade ins depends on the taste or ""style"" of the moron working the register...that is called..inconsistency..I wouldnt recomnd that place to anyone ever again.... Pros: if you shop there people might think your cool for spending to much money on stuff someone else alraedy wore Cons: bad customer service and inconsistency.. more

Beautiful and stylish clothes at great prices, easy selling of clothes 5/13/2008

I always have luck in selling my new and used clothes and finding beautiful and extraordinary ones. Great store, good prices. more

trendy clothes and great staff. 9/25/2007

I have to honestly say that I am baffled by some of the awful reviews. I have been to this buffalo exchange several times and have been very pleased with my entire experience. The last time I went I sold a shopping bag of clothes and was delighted when I was offered $75 in cash and $150 in trade. The staff was funny and friendly and I found several things that a loved including a stunning Betsey Johnson dress that I saw in the mall only a few months prior. I work in the resale business and I think people have unreasonable expectations when selling clothing. You have to understand that, much like a car, clothing loses it's value the minute you take it home. Also, resale is a BUSINESS. They can't sell an item for the same amount you purchased it at. That would be silly and not very lucrative. If said resale store does not think they can make money off your clothing why would they buy them? Buyers have to have a tough skin; turning people down several times a day and getting told off on a daily basis can jade you bit. All in all I think Buffalo Exchange Austin is a great store and I will be back very soon to sell and purchase. I absolutely recommend this store to anyone in search of a great deal!!! more

Clothing exchange at the price of your self respect! 9/7/2007

Buffalo has decent used attire at often outrageously expensive prices. I brought in a box of clothes to sell (after hearing friends' woes and having been advised against it) only to be scoffed at by a disdainful employee in a very foolish haircut who held up my purchases between two fingers and curled her lips in distaste at each item. F minus on customer service. We're not all selling clothes to keep ourselves out of the poorhouse. Some of us just like to keep things tidy. I won't complain about the service because I can't whine about getting money for used items. Human decency is apparently not, however, on the application for employment.\r \r On the plus side, Buffalo gives back to the community if you choose to opt out of a bag. They also offer a dropoff for clothes that they are not interested in buying, and supposedly these go to charity. Nifty.\r \r All in all, I recommend that you grow a good, strong backbone before attempting to sell. If you must be in style at all times (and style means other peoples' used unwanteds) then the exchange bit is fabulous. I'll continue to shop at the Salvation Army for my thrift-store purchases, though, and I'd rather deal with their people and make no money than deal with Buffalo's and get paid. Pros: Good selection, clothing exchange and sales Cons: They soak their employees in evil. more

buys stuff for little to nothing 5/9/2006

I really used to like buffalo exchange in california, now living in texas the only thing that has changed is the people. Same store, same concept. As a customer there and a seller I was really bothered by the low offers I recieved on some items, ex.( a genuine BeBe dress) I was offered $15 dollars for it and the sad thing is I get 35% of that in cash = $5.25 for a dress I paid atleast $130. I'm just ranting here, but all in all if you want to buy cute clothes at ok prices Do, if you want to sell clothes, have a garage sale. Pros: designer things, at low prices, open late= 8:00 Cons: "pro buyers", barely $ recieved, questionable more

I heart buffalo 12/29/2005

Y'all trash talkers are crazy! Buffalo is great. If you bring in good stuff, they'll buy it. I also find really good things to buy every time I go there. Employees are helpful, it's pretty much the best place to shop in Austin Pros: Inexpensive, Great Stuff, Nice employees more

Don't Sell 10/23/2005

My friend and I tried to sell polo, guess, and seven jeans only to be told that they could not accept them. The reps excuse was ""we have so many and they aren't selling good right now"". Why pass out fliers listing these items? What a crock!!! I feel if my clothes aren't good enough for you to buy, my money isn't good enough to spend in your store. I will never shop there again!! Pros: nice selection, okay parking Cons: way overpriced, bad customer service more
