Great place to have drinks, but the food is nothing to write home about. 6/20/2007

I went out with a friend to have drinks in Brooklyn after having a dinner in the city. The Black Peral wa son my list of restaurants to try and their specialty cocktail menu looked pretty nice so we chose t go there. I must admit the drinks were all good. The Mangotini, Rasberrytini and Lechitini all excellent. The following Sunday being father's day i decided suggest to my brothers that we take our father there. The drinks. I had a Key Lime Pie Martini, it was excellent. Then came the food. The calamari appetizer was no where near exceptional, nor was the coconut shrimp. The steak was bland the rice was hard, the plaintain under cooked the black beans, blah. \r So on the plus side, the wait staff is friendly and informative, and the atmosphere is great. \r \r You decide. more

Simply Amazing 6/12/2007

As first time diners, one never knows what to expect...\r Well The Black Pearl far surpassed our every expectation! \r The Filet mignon melts in your mouth! The best Snapper I've ever had! Last but not least, the Tuna Steak was superb.\r There were three of us dining and we had to keep sampling each others plate as if it were a contest to see who had the best meal and truly, it was a tie!\r The service was prompt and exact, the venue was quiet and cool on a hot night. We will dine here again the next time we're in town! Pros: Ambience, outdoor seating for smokers, prompt service for pre event dining more

You may want to visit this place ! 5/4/2007

Interested in a diverse menu. Something for everyone. You may want to visit this place. From fried calamari to a warm goat cheese salad to a tuna steak and finally an Argentinean steak and one being as well delivered as the other. A good selection of wines from around the world, a great martini list and beautiful atmosphere, what's left ? If you decide to visit make sure you as for PK as you server. Pros: Diversity, good vibe more

Outstanding Brunch......Worth the trip! 5/1/2007

Usually go to Belleville for brunch on Sunday but my our friends suggested visiting the Black Pearl. We got there about 1 pm. There was no inside or outside table seating available so we ate at the bar. The menu offered was a brunch/diner menu which I like. I ordered the eggs benedict (which can with 3 eggs instead of the standard two that you usually get) and my girlfriend order the bowtie wild salmon dish. Both dishes were plentiful and very satisfying. I also heard the person sitting next to us say the burger was pretty good too.! The bartender who also served us was very friendly and also made a great bellini. I took advantage of the unlimited mimosa's and bloody mary's. The mimosa's were made of good quailty OJ (not the processed juice that comes from the bar fountain) \r If you are looking for a quality brunch with unlimited drink this place is a great value ! Pros: Quality food ,drink and service more

Great service and a great hamburger ! 4/23/2007

Visited Black Pearl late Saturday evening. I was dying for a hamburger and my girlfriend wanted a good seafood dish. I didn't want to go to the city and I heard the burger was pretty good. We sat down and we were greeted immediately. We ordered our drinks and entrees and asked that our food be cooked as quickly as possible. I had ordered the burger and my girlfreind the red snapper dish. Our food was brought to us in about 10 minutes. As our food was being brought to the table I asked if any of the outside tables were now available. The waiter checked and he said 2 seats were available. Well we were seated outside with food and drink without losing a beat. Thanks Brian for the great service. We wound up staying and sitting outside till 3 am. and by the way the hambuger is pretty good ! Pros: Good customer service, parking available more

Best dining experience in a long time ! 4/18/2007

I walk by Black Pearl everyday to go to work. Saturday night I decided to give them a try. All I have to say is it was the best experience I have had in a long time. My job requires that I wine and dine clients on a frequent basis and I think I have found the perfect place to do it. Upscale but casual, good food and service in an unpretentious setting. Our waiter helped us make our way through the entree selection. He did a great job pairing food and wine in addition to keeping us entertained all night. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to be having a great time also including the waiters and bartenders. I will not hesitate to revisit the Black Pearl with my family and friends or maybe try the brunch ! Pros: Quality seafood and great service. Cons: Very busy on the weekends more

Top Notch Food and Service ! 4/14/2007

Good food and good service. Has a fine dining fun feeling with casual prices. It's a gooood date spot with its ambience. We liked it and will go back. Pros: Food, service, parking Cons: Busy place more

Nice ambience, terrific food, friendly service. 3/26/2007

We decided to stay in Brooklyn this past Saturday and we were told about the Black Pearl. We were told they have a good seafood menu and raw bar. We found out that parking was available so we gave it a shot. Well we walked in about 7:30 and it was very busy. We sat at the bar for about 30 minutes before we were able to be seated. We orderd and split a shrimp salad. It was a very fair portion but it was delicious!\r The sea bass filet and the pepper shrimp entrees were also flavorful. We ended with a chocolate soufflet and homemade cheesecake. The food was very satisfying and the service was just enough and not over the top. The most amazing part is that we were there until 11:00. I would definitely recommend having diner at the Black Pearl but make a reservation !\r but I would suggest reservations! Pros: Parking Available Cons: Busy Weekends more

Hospitality is severely lacking!!!! 3/26/2007

After reading all of the good reviews on Black Pearl I decided to give it a try this past Friday night. Considering it is restaurant week I was very disappointed to see that they were not participating in it, and that there were no dinner specials being offered that night, yet the place was pretty full. I had split the warm goat cheese salad for an appetizer and for my main entree I had the Argentinean Steak which was decent. I soon came to realize that our waiter was the only waiter working that night and trying to get his attention was impossible. But being the only one on a busy night didn't stop him from talking to the people in the booth right behind us for about 20 minutes about his immigration status. All I wanted to do was see a dessert menu. Finally I waved down the kind busboy who brought us menus and felt so bad that personally ran down to the kitchen and brought the desserts back immediately. To make matters worse, I wanted to make my complaints known to the manager, but when I asked to speak to the to one I was told he couldn't be found. What's going on Black Pearl???? Pros: Beautiful place, nice decor Cons: hospitality severly lacking more

Don'y miss the brunch ! 3/13/2007

Had dinner at Black Pearl Thursday evening and really enjoyed the trio ravioli sampler. My wife ordered the\r red snapper. We really enjoyed the flavor of the sauces on both dishes. The garlic white wine sauce very much so complimented the snapper. Our parents were in from South Carolina so we decided to visit the Black Pearl for brunch. Sometimes dinner places are really not lunch or brunch places. Well we reversed our story saying that brunch places sometimes are not dinner places. The brunch was surprising good.\r We all happened to order eggs ( Bacon Benedict and Eggs Florentine) All portions came with 3 eggs, 3 english muffins and all the accessories plus unlimited mimosas or bloody mary's. Can't figure out how they make $ on that deal. Pros: parking available, ambience Cons: pretty busy and had to wait for a table more

you can do much better in the slope 3/10/2007

okay, my experience is based on take out, but in some ways that should make things easier for a place. having read the raves (which, frankly, were suspiciously uniform....who notes lack of parking a con in a nyc eating experience? are all these overly exuberent and easily impressed diners from the suburbs? or are these reviews written by the same hand?) anyway, dialed in for the calamari and a sausage pizza and my hubby toddled off and stayed gone for an hour and a half. seems that the 'pearl' couldn't be bothered to call the number i left and tell me they were out of sausage (out of SAUSAGE?!), requiring hubby to order a replacement once he showed up and wait. and wait. and wait. the fill-in pie was a smoked bacon in a vodka cream sauce. sounds divine. except there was no bacon (alright, i exaggerate, there was a half a slice of bacon scattered meagerly over 8 slices. really). and no vodka. which left a crust with the character of cardboard lashed with an okay tomato sauce and a rather nice mozz. the calamari was, in a word, tough. will we return to the black pearl? with so many better alternatives and intriguing new places popping up, why bother? Pros: edible. but we were starving after waiting Cons: muddled service, disappointing food more

Good customer service and solid seafood 2/28/2007

I arrived at the Black Pearl and i was amazed. Such a beautiful warm warm place to have dinner. It has a cozy brick oven located in the back of the resturante. I sat down and ordered the tilapia. Simply amazing! !With amazing bosa nova music, my date and i loved the scene. I have gone to the blu ribbon down the block and i feel this is going to give them a run for there money!.Watch out Park Slope for this upcoming place! Pros: cool ambience to the place and solid food. Cons: none! more

Thank You Black Pearl ! 2/1/2007

Had my daughter's family birthday party (brunch) at Black Pearl this past weekend. W e had a great menu choice to choose from in addition to unlimited mimosa's and bloody mary's..The food was very good and surprisingly delivered very quick for 45 people. The manager and the service staff were very accomodating.\r I just wanted to drop a note of thanks to all the staff at the restaurant for making us feel very comfortable. \r We already made reservations for Valentine's Day. Thanks again. Pros: Great Service more

Great decor, excellent food, a hot little number ! 1/26/2007

We had read some of the reviews posted on Citysearch about Black Pearl. The food and wine menu looked resonable so we gave it a shot. The food turned out to be awesome, the service was solid and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The fried calamari was delicious. It's a simple plain appetizer that many restaurants serve but yet this calamari was so crispy and the jalepeno dipping sauce was the best I've ever tasted. We had 2 orders !. After our apps, we ordered our entrees. I had ordered the Black Pearl Pepper Shrimp which was cooked in a cognac sauce and served with sweet plantains, black beans, rice and a mango salsa. My husband ordered the chicken americano which is a sauteed chicken breast topped with a tarrigon mustard cream sauce served with asparagus and carrot mashed potatoes. The presentation of the food was excellant and visually appealing. The menu was not overwhelming and not super fancy but the dishes we had ordered were will presented , well prepared. and very tasty. Simple food made good! Looking forward to having my husbands birthday party there! Pros: Beautiful decor, great first a date Cons: make reservations more

It's a definite go! 1/25/2007

I've lived in the neighborhood for 10 years and this is by far the best seafood/pasta place we have eaten in.\r I'm here at least once if not twice a week. The seafood risotto was far beyond expectation and the red snapper and sea bass are my 2nd and 3rd favorite dishes. The salads are plentiful and very fresh. Make sure you try the roasted beet salad or the warm goat cheese salad which is topped with a balsamic honey vinaigrette. The place is very warm and cozy with the brick oven burning in the rear. It was great the night we visited because it was quite cold outside and that fire warms you right up. The rerstaurant is decorated with warm colors giving it a livingroom atmosphere rather than a restaurant. The service was pleasant and prompt. You also have a good selection of good wines. My partner loved the overall wine selection. We will be back for brunch! The restaurant is a definite go! Pros: Good food and great atmoshere, parking across the street Cons: Little bit of a wait on the weekends more

Lively atmosphere. Good Food, Great Time 1/24/2007

Our favorite restaurant in Brooklyn is Black Pearl. It was charming, fun,, lively and offered excellent food and a full brunch menu at a resonable price. We started by ordering 2 Bloody Mary's. They were nice and spicy(not over the top) just the way I like them. We found out they are unlimited for brunch along with mimosas and champagne. We were them brought these tasty warm bite size muffins that must have just been made. They were delicious so we wound up asking for another basket. The menu was pretty complete with about 20-25 menu items. You had a choice of ordering from your traditional eggs benedict to a goat cheese frittata to a a filet mignon burger or a penne a la vodka.(Seems like they had the menu pretty well covered). I chose the eggs benedict which offered 3 eggs canadian bacon served on a english muffin served with southern home fries. As we ate we enjoyed the 80's music which offered trivia facts on the TV about the performing artist. It was pretty funny to see as the song changed the heads of all the diners look up to read the trivia facts on the artist. The food was very tasteful and filling, the service was good (we were able to get our drink refills) and the atmosphere was lively. I'll be back for more brunch. Pros: Good menu, lively atmosphere. great Bloody Mary's more

Brunch Had No Taste, Potatoes Like Packing Peanuts 1/23/2007

The first time I went to Black Pearl was for birthday dinner with my girlfriends. Dinner was great and I loved the room so I brought my husband, a Chef, for brunch. After having a great dinner experience I thought brunch would be awesome. Surprisingly not so! \r The coffee was watery and the potatoes tasted dehydrated, like chewing on foam. We both ordered eggs with Hollandaise which was also tasted like air. The muffins were floppy. The Bloody Mary's were average but the brunch is pricey! We spent $40 bucks for two when we could have had a spectacular brunch for $24 down the block. The music they were playing made us feel like we were at the gym, which made us want to leave immediately, and not partake in any more drinks. The waiter was slow (there were hardly any customers and three people, including our waiter, behind the bar putting away glasses), and the hostess was spending an inordinate amount of time sitting at a table chatting with friends. So after our nothing tasting brunch we couldn't get anyone's attention for our check. I had to walk up to the bar and ask for it. The only thing we liked was the butter. We will never go there again! Pros: nice room Cons: bad food & service more

Cozy atmosphere with a wide varity of dishes 1/17/2007

Whenever my friends come to visit the park slope area, I always make sure we make dinner or Brunch plans at the Pearl. I love the cozy atmosphere and the wide varity of dishes. The salads, pizza?s and pasta?s are delicious. The Martini list is unbelivable, the service is outstanding and the atmosphere cannot be beat. It is very difficult to find a bar with a cool vibe, absolutely no pretension and superb food. The crowd was a great mix of people too.\r Pros: Variety of dishes, cozy atmosphere more

Horrible service..mediocre food 1/11/2007

I live in the Park Slope area and I am shocked that this restaurant does any sort of business at all with so many great places surrounding them. First, it took some time before we were greeted, and even though there were many open tables, it still took 15 minutes to be seated and almost just as long to be waited on. On top of the dinnerware being dirty, the food was mediocre at best. No apologies were given and when I requested to speak with a manager I was told he was ""unavailable."" Overall, it was a terrible experience and I will not be going back. more

The Slope's New Hot Spot 11/16/2006

You will never have to leave Brooklyn to have a fun night out, again. I ate at the Black Pearl last Friday night and I was quite shocked that Park Slope had such an up-beat place. The music was great, service was wonderful and the bartender Kim was awesome!!!!!!! It was quite packed when I arrived, there was a 20 minute wait. The guys and I decieded to have a drink at the bar and look at the curvacious bartender!!! Soon we were seated. I started off with the fried calamari which was nice and crispy. Then I had for my entree the Linguini Baby Clams. I had no complaints whatsoever!!! Cant wait to try there brunch!!!! Pros: Nice decor, young crowd, happy hour 7 days a week, nice portions of food Cons: Parking, you might want to make reservations more
