DONT BELIEVE THE NEGATIVE HYPE!!!!!! 10/24/2006

Black Pearl was recommended to me by a couple of friends who live in the Park Slope area. I am big on brunch. I was kind of skeptical of the place after reading a review on city search, but I am glad that I followed my instinct and went. First of all the place is gorgeous from the art work to the brick oven that burns through out brunch. We were greeted and seated very promptly. Our waitress was very attentive and kept our refills of mimosas, coming (F.Y.I., THEY DO HAVE UNLIMITED MIMOSOS AND WE WERE BROUGHT NEW GLASSES EVERYTIME A REFILL CAME, how could you beat that for $14.95 per person). The food came in nice proportions, and then plates were nicely decorated with fresh herbs. I am one satisfied customer and plan on returning for the dinner within the next week. Pros: Unlimited mimosas, champagne, coffee more

DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING!! 10/19/2006

MY HUSBAND AND I HAD BRUNCH AT THE BLACK PEARL ON A SUNDAY MORNING. I WILL SAY THE ATMOSPHERE IS NICE, BUT THAT IS WHERE THE GREAT REVIEWS END. THE MAIN REASON I CHOSE THIS RESTAURANT WAS BECAUSE OF THE REVIEWS AND AS PER THEIR WEBSITE THEY SERVED UNLIMITED MAMOSAS (ETC) WHEN WE ARRIVED WE NOTICED THE MENU LISTED TWO DRINK PER CUSTOMER, WE ASKED THE WAITRESS, AND MENTIONED THAT AS OF THAT MORNING THE WEBSITE ADVERTISED THE UNLIMITED DRINKS WITH BRUNCH. RATHER THAN TRY TO APOLOGIZE OR OFFER SOMETHING ELSE SHE WAS SNIPPY AND SAID THAT THE COMPUTER TECH HAD NOT YET UPDATED THE SITE. WELL HE/SHE MUST BE ON VACATION BECAUSE AS OF THIS RATING IT HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED. THE PORTIONS ARE SMALL AND THE FOOD JUST OKAY. THE SERVICE IS SLOW AND INEFFICENT. THERE ARE TOO MANY FABULOUS ESTABLISHMENTS IN THE AREA TO GO BACK, NO THANKS BLACK PEARL! Pros: NICE ATMOSPHERE Cons: POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE more

Not quite unlimited... 10/15/2006

Unless you consider three 4 oz glasses unlimited! Went there for brunch with 3 other people and was disappointed. The place itself is nice, but we spent more time waiting for our food and refills than we did eating. \r Rather than have carafes prepared ahead of time, our empty glasses were taken to the bar each time and returned to the table, although whether we got back our original glasses, we couldn't tell; the lip prints proved SOMEONE had already used the glasses, I only hoped it was the people I was seated with! \r The food is good, but sparse (come to find out, they stop serving drinks once you're done eating, so small portions are not a coincidence) the service is spotty and though we had to practically beg for our ""unlimited"" refills, the check arrived quite quickly and without being requested, even though no one was waiting to be seated. \r If you want a nice leisurely brunch without feeling resented for expecting timely refills, go elsewhere! Pros: ambience, location Cons: service, service, service more

GREAT NIGHT OUT!! 10/12/2006

\r I was told about Black Pearl by a group of friends who had a party for six this past week. I visited the website and viewed a very diverse brunch menu, as well as a dinner menu. My girlfriends and I decided to check the place out for dinner for our monthly get together. The restaurant was not so much trendy but beautiful, warm and cozy. We happened to be seated in one of the round banquets on the second level overlooking the entire restaurant. The music was very hip as well as upbeat and smooth. The service was prompt and believe it or not fun. The food and drinks are what made the evening. The menu was elegant and well thought out. It ranged from salads to the fantastic and I mean fantastic chocolate souffle. I will be having my moms birthday party at the restaurant next month and I am totally looking foward to it. If you decided to try this place out I would suggest the fish tacos, Sea Bass and then top the evening off with the amazing chocolate souffle. Pros: Party room available, good looking servers Cons: parking more

Best Dinner Ever!!!!! 8/13/2006

Well City Search users, I am back again. I was back at Black Pearl on 9/29/06 with my boyfriend. I was the reviewer who noted that they had the best brunch ever. My boyfriend & I went for dinner recently on a Fri night and was seated right away. It was a beautiful night and Black Pearl set the right mood. Candle lit tables, soft music and the best customer service I have ever encountered at a restaurant. From the host in the front, to the waiter and how can I forget the manager, Bob. He was great. My boyfriend had the mussel appetizer and I had the grilled calamari appetizer with arugula salad!!!Scrumptious I say. U guys must think I am exaggerating, but I am not. U Parkslope residents don't know what your missing, if you have not been there. We then had our entrees, I had the lobster ravioli and my boyfriend had the salmon, great. We also had drinks and the manager even gave us a round on the house. Nice man. Our glasses were filled with water without even asking a dozen times, every 10 mins one of the staff members or waiter came to check on us and even Bob himself. Like I said, please give it a shot people, its not very often I post a review. Thanks Bob and the staff at Black Pearl for a wonderful evening. We will be back. Who knows, I may host a private pty there soon. P.S. with all the drinks we had with dinner, plus appetizers and desert (cheese cake-yummy)I really thought that our bill would of been sky high. However, it was just under $100.00. Not bad. Pros: Exceptional staff, great food, great ambience-First Class more

Great Food, Great Service, Great Decor/Atmosphere 7/30/2006

Well My husband and I had no idea where to go for dinner this past Saturday Night, we wanted to go someplace different...yet still good and reasonable...we searched on citysearch and found the Black Pearl. I was more than happy with our choice. The service was excellent, the place was busy, yet the hostess and owner came by to make sure we were OK and asked if we needed anything. You gotta try the MANGO-TINI's they are soooo yummy! Garnished with a fresh piece of juicy mango too! For an appetizer we had crabcakes which were delicious as well. And for our entrees, I had the lobster ravioli which were hear shaped...and in a lobster bisque light creame sauce! scruptious! (they also add a couple of pieces of shrimp on top also!) my husband got a Frutta De Mare which was half a lobster, mussles, clams and shrimps over a ton of linguine in a fra diavalo sauce...it was a HUGE portion!! and the best thing it was under 30.00!!!! he eats like a pig and he couldnt even finish it there was sooo much pasta and fresh shellfish! \r we also had dessert, a dish with 3 diff sorbets and fresh berries!\r \r Def. cant wait to go back to the black pearl...its in brooklyn, yet I felt like i was in NYC, cool and funky..yet different without being over the top or trying to hard...\r \r Def a great romantic spot....yet its also a fun place for a group of friends.\r \r Ohh i cant wait to go back with my girlfriends... :) Pros: Great Food, Great Service, NYC Standards in Bklyn For Less than NYC Prices Cons: Nothing! we loves it and cant wait to go back!!! more

Wonderful! 7/26/2006

Wow is all I can say! The food is amazing, the drinks are amazing, and the service is great! I definitely recommend the black pearl salad, the salad with goat cheese and pinenuts, the filet mignon, but no matter what you get everything is delicious and the portions are enough to satisfy any appetite and take the rest home! The restaurant is gorgeous! THe restaurant also has a room that you can have small parties in! Make a reservation or just stop in for drinks, you won't be disappointed, I wasn't! Pros: FOOD, ambiance, location Cons: NA more

horrible service:excellent food 7/25/2006

This is a tough one. A friend and I went there on a non-busy week night. We waited 15 minutes before the waitor acknowledged us. We ordered a $36 bottle of wine and we both ordered $20 entrees. The waitor came to our table once to bring us the bottle after we ordered and we didn't see him again until the bill came! he never refilled our glasses, brought us bread or even brought us our entrees. We had to ask the busboy if bread came with our meal, which it did and we received after waiting about 30 minutes. The food took forever, but was absolutely delicious. I am hoping the stale service was a one shot deal because it was deplorable for what we paid for dinner! Pros: inovative dishes Cons: deplorable service more

Nice brunch! 7/15/2006

Found this place on citysearch and the reviews paid off. Went there for Sunday brunch today and was pleasantly surprised... Now to be honest I chose it based on the unlimited Bloody Mary, Mimosa factor but the food itself as well as decor were excellent. \r They started us off with a small basket of mini muffins that were very tasty. For our meal we both chose the eggs benedict (per the waiters suggestion) the hollandaise sauce was tasty and what I appreciated is they didn't smother everything in the sauce, but were very quick to offer an extra side to my friend who likes more sauce then I do. Most surprising there were actually three servings on the plate not the standard two. Even the pineapple side served with it had a pleasant flavor. My only mild complaint was the bloody mary glass could be bigger (small wine glass), but when it's being refilled that's a bit of a moot point\r \r Well worth the $14.95 with or without the drinks. We'll be back for dinner for sure!\r \r more

Excellent food and reasonably priced. 6/28/2006

Finally a restaurant in Park Slope with excellent food, atmosphere, and customer service without ""Manhattan prices"". Lobster and linguine are the best....great for small group parties. Pros: Menu, Ambience and price Cons: Parking more

Great atmosphere & Food 6/27/2006

Finally, in Park Slope .Brooklyn, a GREAT place to eat with an atmosphere to rival the best Manh type upscale restaurant, but with gourmet prepared meals at reasonable prices. Try to get a seat on the stepup level and appreciate the ambiance including the unusual open wood/brick burning pizza oven. Can't wait for my next visit. Ed more

upcoming friday night hotspot 6/22/2006

I just went there recently and i have to admit i was very impressed. The atmosphere is a cool city-like one. I tried the crab cakes for my appetizer, let me tell you , amazing! nothing short of that. My main dish was a Sea- bass Filet. It was nothing short of excellance. I couldn't complain about anything. My dinner there was great. I cant wait to bring my b/f there for brunch this sunday. Pros: Wide variety in the menu. lOVE IT! Cons: - more

Yummy Cocktails! Great late night night happy hour!! Even better food! 6/22/2006

I went to Black Pearl in Park Slope and had a great time. The restaurant itself is beautiful and sleek decor. The bartenders were freindly and the cocktails were fantastic! We came for a drink and stayed for dinner. I had the best Sea Bass i've ever tasted, seriously... I also loved the bellinni. If your in the slope, make this your new regular spot, I know I have!! more

Good food, but super-slow service 6/21/2006

I have to admit, I was really looking forward to Black Pearl opening. It's right down the block from me, sports a great menu filled with classic italian fare, and personal pizzas that really melt in your mouth. My first night dining there was a great experience. The calimari is a must-try. The plush booths are comfortable, and the decor is a good combination of relaxing and romantic.\r \r \r But somehow, it's gone down-hill since day one, and now I need to know I'll have 2 hours to dine or I'll end up frustratred by the end of waiting and waiting and waiting for service and my meal. My two most recent experience of black pearl left the same sour taste in my mouth, which is unfortunate since neither had anything to do with the food.\r \r \r A few weeks ago, I went there for a romantic Saturday night dinner. We were seated immediately, and all seemed fine. But once we ordered our main courses, the waiting began. And we waited. And waited. For a while, it seemed they'd forgotten about us. Granted, Saturdays are crowded. You can certainly tell each dish is prepared with attention. After we finally got our food (great), we had to practically send up flares to get a check to finally leave. By the end of the meal, there were several people waiting to be seated and we wondered why they haven't found a balance between being courteous to leave diners time to talk, and turning over the tables.\r \r \r But the food is so good, I had to try again. This past Monday, I had a friend in town, and three of us met at Black Pearl to give it another go. Again, drink orders were rushed, meal orders delayed. The appetizer came quickly and it seemed the experience would work out well. But then minutes slowly ticked by before we got our meals, and our check was even farther behind. A good hour-plus was wasted just trying to get out of there.\r \r \r Unfortunate, but perhaps fixible. I'll give them another try, or maybe it's time to start ordering out for delivery. Pros: Food, location, ambience Cons: Slow, slow, slow more

Loved it! 6/18/2006

Just discovered this place through Citysearch. Had a great meal on Sunday. There were so many wonderful sounding things on the menu I had a hard time deciding, went with the specialty, seafood risotto, and was extremely pleased with it. Very reasonable prices. Great service and ambiance. The noice level was a bit high, since sounds seem to really bounce around in there, but overall a highly recommended restaurant. more
