had to find an ASE certified mechanic to work on Isuzus since there is no longer a dealership in Austin. Isuzu recommended Ben White Automotive. They had no problem getting the parts needed (I had been told by another mechanic that that could be a problem). They were courtious, professional and within reason for labor costs. I will use them from now on. more

I needed new brakes for my minivan and fearfully called the local businesses expecting to hear a salespitch or vague answers on prices. Ben White Automotive was honest and to the point in an over the phone assessment, giving me the range of prices I was looking at as well as some options I would have in the repairs that would affect the total price. They were friendly and polite at their office and followed through with their over the phone assessment. I came away feeling like I supported a good, local business and would definitely reccommend them as the place to go for repairs. I would recommend this auto shop. They provided me with a detailed estimate. The service was quick on my a/c. And, they explained everything. This was my first visit to Ben White Automotive. The repair rep made a good effort to contact me and give me a list of problems with my vehicle. They were willing to work with me on the cost of the repairs as I was on a tight budget. The repairs were made in a timely manner. The price seems reasonable. Offered suggestions on which repairs to focus on first as there were numerous issues with my vehicle. more

Last night the radiator on my daughter's vehicle literally ""busted"" while traveling on IH35. Big problem and even bigger because she was traveling from San Antonio (after visiting with me) to Dallas (her home). Two hours later, and after numerous phone calls, the vehicle was towed to Ben White Automotive - South. (This was based on comments from the a very helpful Austin PD officer and equally helpful tow truck driver.) This morning I called and talked with Kevin and he was just an helpful. He patiently listened as I explained why he found a Jeep Gran Cherokee sitting at his shop and how critial it was to have the vehicle repaired so my daughter could get back to her home and work. Within a short time he had the vehicle ""checked out"" and called me back (long distance - remember, I am in San Antonio) with exalted what repairs were needed - no more, no less. In addtion, the price was reasonable!!!! I would gladly recommend this shop to anyone living or ""stranded"" in Austin. more

After initially taking our car to Firestone, we were told by them that it needed a new tie-rod. We called around to several auto shops and Ben White Automotive had the best price by far, both for the labor and for the part. Shortly after dropping our car off at Ben White Automotive, we got a call that no replacement of the tie-rod was necessary. They said that with the car only being 3 years old and less than 50k miles, no repairs should be necessary and that Firestone was known for ""making work"" when business was slow. They also said there would be no charge for looking at our car. When we picked it up, they still had it up on the lift so that we could see for ourselves that the car was fine. After that, they quickly brought the car around, and as promised, there were no charges. We told them that from now on, we will only take our vehicles in to Ben White Automotive. We are grateful to finally find an auto shop that we can trust. And not only that, but Ben White Automotive also has the best prices. They are the best in town. It's nice to know that there are still businesses out there that treat customers the way they should be treated...with honesty and respect. Thank you Ben White Automotive! I am always concerned about auto repair shops recommending work that is not necessarily needed. Oscar and staff at Ben White automotive always give sound advice on what repairs are critical, safety issues and ones that maybe more for comfort. I have continued to take my 2002 Trailblazer w/ 170,000 + miles there for the needed repairs in leui of purchasing a new vehicle and generally pay less than a monthly new car payment would be. more

Wanted to fix up my old Honda Accord, rather than buy a new car, and needed to get it checked out. They gave me the run down on the car and offered advice...candid advice. It would be well worth considering buying another used car, rather than pouring money into the aforementioned vehicle...which would need more work (i.e. lots of money) to get it up and in good working order. I took my car in first thing in the morning for overheating issues and received a call back mid day with estimate. They then ended up completely the work the same day I brought it in and we were able to pick it up early the next morning. This was fast no hassle service and I will definitely be back. more

i brought my car in for an oil leak. they gave me an estimate, and said they would have it done by the end of the day. they finished it in time, and within the estimate, so that was fine. they were easy going, and did not give any B. S. about finding that i needed more work or parts.\r \r my only complaint is that they left grease marks, and some oil dripping down the fender of my car. i will cut them some slack because my car was otherwise a bit dirty at the time, but still...\r \r this was my first time in, and i am very particular, i would probably have work done here again. Pros: freindly staff, easy access location Cons: not discount price, but then you usually get what you pay for more

I have been looking for a good mechanic for 4 years in Austin that I could trust. In the last two months, I have had to take my car in twice and both times I was super impressed! They didn't give me a huge list of things that they would like to fix when all of the other places that I took it to had. The price is always cheaper than their quote, they are very nice, fast, and have done a good job both times. I have had the car for 3 years and never had to do work on it until the last two months and they surpassed my expectations both times. They even gave me a free oil change! I highly recommend Ben White Automotive!! I will not go anywhere else. more

used to have private mechanic, this is the best alternative anywhere, noticed radiator leak on way to work, stopped here and for nominal fee they diagnosed problem, called me promptly to discuss before they did anything, had car back before end of day and without having to make appointment - I trust these guys anytime here on out this is where I go for car repair and ease of mind. more

They diagnosed my problem (headlamp relay) and then replaced the faulty part with same day service. Granted, it's a pretty quick problem to solve, but they were also very courteous both in person and on the phone. I've not had much repair work done lately so I can't really speak as to whether or not the price was competitive for the work done, but I can't complain about the service. more

These people know their business. I took my Ford SUV there yesterday for an all wheels complete brake repaire. Up front, they told me what it would cost and when it would be ready. They missed on the ready time by five minutes! more

In for a minor repair (battery), therefore not a full view of the scope of service - but I was in quickly and out under time estimate without being hassled to buy extra parts or perform unnecessary repairs - much appreciated. Word of advice - arrainge a ride if at all possible. Although the waiting room is clean, comfortable, and comes with a nostalgic dual-knobed, late 70's style TV - it only gets FOX so....maybe bring a book. I'm a happy customer and will be back! more

This question almost always comes up in a conversation, do you know a good mechanic? Well not only did I find a good mechanic but an honest one. I brought my Taurus in because I noticed a "" very slight hesitation"" in the engine. I believe in fixing before it breaks. The diagnostic equipment couldn't actually pinpoint the cause because it was that slight. But the mechanic suspected it was one of the ignition coils starting to get weak. Most shops in my experience ( I've got 45 yrs owning and driving cars) would have recommended shotgunning the repair and replace all the coils and plugs in hope of getting the right one. Not these guys. Their advice was to live with it until it starts to slowly break down which could be another thirty thousand miles down the road. He said I would notice the difference and then we'll replace just that one. I don't know if I should mention this because I don't want to get Kevin in trouble but they wouldn't accept any payment for the time and work "" cause we didn't fix anything"" Do I have an answer to that age old question now? You betcha. more
