Best

I have been going here for about 3 months now and about twice a week. This is some good stuff and well worth the money.\r \r Staff is friendly and quick.

Worst

I have eaten here consistently since moving from Dallas over 18 months ago but recently the service has gotten really bad. I usually eat here for lunch (I work at Dell) and notic...

Great local sushi 4/13/2007

Last night was my first visit to Beluga. I can honestly say I will be back. The food, service and atmosphere were all good. The waitstaff were very attentive. Everything was fresh. I had sashimi tuna and the Jalapeno roll. On my next visit I will be trying the Tuna Tower thing. I had already ordered my food when a waitress brought out this plate with the Tuna Tower on it. Looks to-die-for. Well done!! more

Great service, great food, and great times can all be expected at Beluga! 4/12/2007

The food at Beluga is amazing. The sushi is always very fresh and leaves a person craving more. The servers are always very tenative and prompt. Every person working at the restaurant strives to make the customer feel as though the restaurant is reserved just for their dining pleasure. It is a very nice place to go for a quick healthy lunch, but an even better place to start off your night on the town. Beluga is a casual dinning experience with upscale charm. Everyone should get a chance to try the amazing food and chic atmosphere! Pros: Atmosphere, service, food, drinks more

inside job? 4/11/2007

okay i wouldn't be writing this but i went there based solely on these reviews, many of which are positive. well, my experience was the exact opposite of positive. without getting into too much detail i will let you know that the waiters were incompetent and the management (who trains them) was even more so. The food was just mediocre as well. So upon this experience I decided to review all the people who wrote positive reviews...only to find that most of them only had written 1 review...for who? you guessed it...beluga. Inside jobs? I'd say yes, but you can make the call for yourself. I'd suggest you go somewhere else and save your gas... Pros: figured out how to ""work"" the citysearch system Cons: poor business ethics more

Great example of horrible service 4/11/2007

The service is horrible, the waitress could not even understand me, or my date. This could be because of the loud music, or just because she did not seem to understand us. I continually read about the loud music in the reviews of the place thus far, but it seems like that is a simple change. Its more difficult to change staff or menus, but all the music needs is a switch turned to have it lowered so that the patrons can enjoy themselves. The company obviously does not take the reccomendations here into consideration as it seems the same comments are made: bad service, loud music, long waits. It seems like the owners were commenting on the reviews early when they were amazingly all 'highly recommended'....this could be because the reviews can be deleted. Now I see more of the negative reviews and less of the establishment commenting. I think less excuses need to be given and accusations made at the reviewers and more effort given to improving the restaurant. When I say I had a horrible lunch experience I state that I am having a bad experience. Tell me that you are going to improve and appologize and not tell me that the facility was not open during lunch. Lunch is simply the meal in the middle of breakfast and dinner, not what you eat at noon. If so, then the dictionary definitions are wrong and all of the 24 hour restaurants are wrong for being open at a time when there is no meal. I would not suggest the establishment as the waits were long, even with open tables, the waitress lost one of my parties credit card and it was found 30 mins later when she bent over and spilled the contents of her apron, and part of the staff cannot assist you as they are not my waitress. Why ask if we can be helped. Both me and my date were unhappy. As a Dell employee, I am disappointed a prime retail location could not be suited with a better sushi establishment. My coworkers agree. Pros: parking Cons: food, service, prices, service, and service more

Great Food, but the most horrible service I have experienced 4/4/2007

I must admit, there sushi is delious. The food seems to be cut from the best cuts of meat and fish and the food choices are very creative. This states alot since I frequent other sushi establishments regularly. \r \r The food was the only wonderful part about my meal. In my thirty years of restaurant visits I have never had service as horrible as this location. I could go into detail, but in short, the party that I went with waited a total of an hour for our tab and for a box. During our wait we acknowledged to a member of the staff that we were still awaiting our to-go box. Our reply was that she was not our waitress and could not help us. She was the person who asked if needed anything twenty mins earlier, she was the one that we requested the box from, she was the one who replied yes. Other experiences included lack menus, and a 'lost' tab (one that contained our credit card). At the end, the tab was found with the waitress and we left very unsatisfied.\r \r If you like good food I would suggest it, but only if you can wait a lengthy time for poor service from the waitstaff. I, as well as the rest of my party have each stated we would never return. We have not done so. Pros: Good sushi Cons: horrible sushi, long waits more

Devoted customer for life! 3/14/2007

I would stop there any time any day any chance i get - and i actually do! Just ask Fish! I think i truly deserve the name of a special customer after a year and a half of at least weekly visits over there! And i bring all my friends there too :-) And they bring their friends...\r Food is absolutely amazing - fresh, delicious, always something new to try - like Steak Wraps - i tried today at lunch! MMMMM... i couldn't think about anything else for a while... :-) Or have something old, familiar, and loved - like Ahi Tower or Summer Rolls. My mouth is watery as i write about them, and i just had my late lunch ah hour ago.\r In any case, this is the most personal, friendly, VIP treatment that you would ever get at a restaurant! Period. You will always feel comfortable, welcome, and having a pleasant dining experience - no matter you come by yourself, or with your better half, or with a crowd of friends.\r I am in love with the place! Would rate it as a 100 if i could :-)\r This is my first review ever and i just had to thank them for making my day everytime i go there! Pros: Food, atmosphere, service more

Lunch was A+ 2/27/2007

I work just around the corner and stopped by for lunch today. My boss and I ate in the bar area which was nice because there were flat screens everywhere for us to watch. The service and food was great. We got these ""lunch trays or boxes"" which were delicious! I will definitely go back and recommend this place to my friends and co-workers. Pros: Great Service and Food more

Best Japanese Food in Austin! 2/26/2007

If you are looking for a romantic evening with a date or want to hang out with the guys/gals, Beluga can accommodate. Restaurant Owners, Jay and Fish, bring a spark to the atmosphere and really make you feel like family. Great job Beluga I rate you a 10. more

Sat night sushi tasting is good foreplay !! 2/24/2007

Very good sushi. Bincho and Fatty Monk are to die for. Godzilla Roll, YUMMY !!!!!!! I need to try a Dell roll. (Although given that name it must fall apart 5 minutes after it is made.) Service always superb. Many times you will see Vlad or Jae out greeting the villagers in the dining room. Some pinko had the nerve to write a bad review, and they had never even visited the restaurant. That review should clearly be deleted. Do yourself a favor, head over on a Sat night, and do the Sushi tasting. Call ahead for that though, that helps them plan the sushi bar staff etc. Pros: Consistently good food. Cons: A couple of times, I had to ask them to notch the music volume down a tad. more

Excellent Sushi, Beautiful Restaurant 12/5/2006

We had dinner on Sunday night and the food was excellent. I really like the way the restaurant is decorated, you really can't find anything that compares in Round Rock. It was a great evening and we topped it off with some great Ice Cream next door. Pros: Great food, beautiful restaurant Cons: A bit expensive(we used an entertainment coupon which made it very reasonible) more

BEST SUSHI EVER 12/4/2006

RECOMENDED BY MY FRIENDS WENT TO TRY OUT BELUGA'S GREAT SUSHI. CAME ALL THE WAY FROM DALLAS. EXCELLENT EXPIRIENCE. SUPER GOOD SUSHI. NEXT TIME IN AUSTIN WILL VISIT AGAIN. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. more

The only good sushi place in Austin 12/4/2006

A friend and I went to eat at Beluga Saturday night. Even though they were really busy we still had good service. The Eskimo roll is my new favorite. While we were having our drinks the power went out. We were a little nervous but they had candles and the manager came up to our table and strated talking and joking with us and some of the other tables. It was a great experience that could have been really bad, but the people at the restuarant really made it fun. The food is great and I would recomend this restaurant to anyone who likes sushi or Japanese food. The people are great too. You Have to try it! Pros: Great food and easy to get to. more

WORST JAPANESE RESTARAUNT EVER!!!!! 12/3/2006

Apparently there was to much emphasis put on the fact that the lights went out. That was the least of my family's issues with this horrible place. Unfortunately I believe in the value of money so when I pay $120 for a meal I will finish it, I did state in my previous posting that the sushi was the worst I have ever had I did not state that it was unedible. The only reason this issue was not brought up on the evening we were dining is because I did not want to make a scene with my out of town guests present. I made a decision to share my review here. I noticed that you had no SMART A** response for my family member not receiving her salad at all or the fact that the rice came out 10 min after the chicken came out and was well on the way of being eaten cold. As far as your family served response, I requested that our food be served at the same as the Sushi. We received each item at different times if a request cannot be met then the patron should be notified that it is not possible. So if you have any other smart a** remarks to give your X patrons be my guest I am awaiting your response. Cons: Everything more

Addictive!!!! 11/27/2006

That's the word I like to use when describing Beluga. I eat there at least once a week and I am never disappointed. The sushi is consistantly the best and the service is awesome. I take full advantage of the happy hour specials and I encourage other sushi lovers to do the same. You will not be disappointed. The Ahi Tower is scrumptious. My favorite rolls are the Cherry Roll and the Mr. Smith. But everything I've tried has been fantastic and oh-so-fresh. I have also had the bento box-only offered at lunch. I was amazed at the amount of food I got for the price. I have already made believers out of several friends. I have not experienced the Saturday night ""all you can eat"", but it won't be long! I love Beluga. I hope it sticks around for a long, long time! Pros: Great value! Cool Ambience more

EXELLENT! LOVED IT ! 9/16/2006

HOW CAN THIS HAPPAN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROUND ROCK!!! I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT SUCH A PLACE COULD EVEN EXIST. ITS LIKE IN LOS ANGELES OR NEW YORK. NICELY BUILD AND HAS PRIVATE ROOMS. I CAME TO AUSTIN ON A BUISSNES TRIP AND WAS HAPPY TO FIND A PLACE LIKE BELUGA. I WENT TO FEW OTHERS, WHICH WERE RECOMMENDED BY THE HOTEL (TOKYO... AND ONE MORE ORAGAMI) I FELT CHEATED AFTER I WALKED IN TO BELUGA. ONCE FOR LUNCH AND THE SAME DAY FOR DINNER. HOW ABOUT A RETURN CUSTOMER?. SUSHI FOR LUNCH WAS DOUBLE THE PORTION. SPECIAL ROLL WAS CRUNCH OF SOME SORT. PERFECT SPICE WITH A BIG SHRIMP TAIL AND SPICY TUNA.\r STEAMED DUCK BREAST WITH BLUEBERRIES FOR DINNER. HE.. I DID NOT KNOW I LIKED DUCK AT ALL. SO SIMPLE AND SAUCE IS TO DIE FOR. \r THE MENU IS HUGE !!! I CAN'T COUNT TO 300 ITEMS AND MORE ON DAILY SPECIALS. I WAS AMAZED HOW ANY PLACE OFFERS SO MANY ITEMS. THIS PLACE IS VERY CLEAN. THE STAFF IS VERY FREINDLY AND EXTREMELY KNOLEDGABLE ABOUT THE ITEMS ON THE MENU. \r BELUGA HAS ROCKS AND ICE IN THE HAND SINKS ???? I ASK THE OWNER WHY? HE LAUGHED AND ANSWERED: SOMETHING FOR PEOPLE TO TALK ABOUT. FUNNY GUY.\r TODAY, GOING TO EAT, ITS NOT WHAT IT WAS BEFORE. YOU CHOOSE THE PLACE TO COME BACK TO. I WILL TALK ABOUT BELUGA TO MY FRIENDS AND WILL COME BACK BECAUSE I HAD A GREAT EXPIRIENCE AND DUCK WITH BLUEBERRIES IN THE SUSHI BAR !!!\r LOVED IT. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO COME TO ROUND ROCK AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE RESTAURANT NOT MY JOB.\r Pros: SERVICE! FOOD! AMBIENCE! Cons: ROCKS WITH ICE IN THE BEATHROOM SINKS ??? :) more

Good Sushi, Bad Service 8/15/2006

I have been to Beluga for 3 times but I will not go there anymore. The sushi was good and fresh but the service was horrible. The last time I went there for lunch special sushi 2 for 1, the waitress did not want to give me a to go box saying that since it was 2 for 1 sushi, I can't take it home. Very funny. I paid for my food and if I can't finish it, promo or not, I should be able to pack the left over. \r \r The worst was the fact that I left the waiter some tips. I think that should be good enough considering the slow service etc, but when I check with my credit card company, I was overcharged. I suspect that they add more tips to the grand total. It is small money but when you can add a few dollar after I signed the bill and the tips??? I just can not accept the way they do business. more

Great spot for sushi!!! 8/5/2006

I have been here on four/five Saturdays and ordered the All-You-Can-Eat Sushi Sampler ($35). On my last visit the service was quick and friendly. On earlier visits, it did take awhile to get our food. For your money you get a choice of approximately 15 kinds of sashimi and 12 kinds of rolls. The fish was fresh and the rolls were very tasty. The sampler is great if you've always wanted to experiment with new things (salmon roe...yuck!!!) The favorites among the groups I have gone with are the seared tuna sashimi and the super white tuna sashimi. Why wait for a table at Uchi for an hour and a half, when you could drive to Beluga in 20 minutes; be seated promptly in a comfortable chair and dine on excellent sushi/sashimi? Pros: Great Sushi more

Continually Disappointed 8/1/2006

I'm finally giving up on this place. I've gone to Beluga on several occasions and decided today was my last. On my first visit I asked the Hostess if there were vegan options and she handed me the menu and said ""if you don't see anything, well that's what we got"". Not very helpful. The service was horrible--really slow. Because of the convenient location and the 2 for 1 sushi deal I continued to go there. Today when I got my check I realized that I didnt get the 2 for 1 deal on the sushi. Not a huge deal but I did ask the waitress if they no longer offered that special. She stated that the special did not apply to the vegetarian sushi. I explained that it always had in the past and she told me I was wrong! She insisted that I had never been given the 2 for 1 price on my veggie sushi--even though thats the only thing Ive ever ordered (other than the edamame, which was awful). When she returned to the table to give me my debit card back, she started telling me again that I was wrong (even though I had already decided not to continue to discuss it). Their customer service is really lackingeven if I was wrong (which I wasnt!) the waitress should not handled the situation the way that she did. more

HIP AND TRENDY....IN ROUNDROCK? 7/23/2006

Delicious. We went on Saturday for All you can Eat Sushi or what I like to call the Saturday Sushi Surprise it is a great way to try something new (i.e. the Wasabi Caviar...the thought still brings tears to my eyes) everything else was amazing. The atmosphere was so calming the music was great, everything was fresh and delicious. The quality of the fish was wonderful, For the price I was expecting the frozen Tilapia from the bargain freezer at Wal-Mart but Beluga has managed to provide quantity without sacrificing quality. All you can eat Sushi on Saturdays! I expect to see everyone there. Pros: Price, Quality, Ambience Cons: The Wasabi Cavier...Jk... Someone Likes it I am sure.... more

GREAT TASTE AND EXCELLENT SERVICE!!! 7/15/2006

We visited this restaurant and found the service to be very fast. They did not make us wait for the food, but after we were finished eating we did not feel rushed to leave. We found this to be a relaxing place to eat. The Sushi was wonderful and the best that we ever had. The Ahi Tower and Summer Roll were excellent! The Toro (filet minon of the Tuna) was very unique. We have traveled around the world and have never found such an excellent cut of Sushi. Our children ordered the stir-fried steak meat and enjoyed it very much. I do recommend this for kids. The people of Round Rock are very blessed to have such a world class Sushi restaurant. It is as good or better that the best ones in Dallas, Japan, Korea, New York, Europe and LA. WE VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!!!! Pros: Great Sushi. Great Service. Easy Parking more
