Good Saturday Brunch 8/8/2010

Had brunch there on a spur of the moment decision due to the extreme long wait to get a table at Coastal Kitchen on a saturday at 1:30 pm. All six of us ordered different selections from the brunch menu and everyone was happy with the food. I had the Crabcake Eggs Benedict and they were very good. Others at the table had the Corned Beef Hash and the Farmer's breakfast. They all looked great and tasted great. The service was excellent. Drink prices are high, so I would inquire about happy hours. Also, there is a nice covered outdoor patio with heaters that looks like a great place to take a date or a group of friends during the evening. Now that I know about 22 Doors I would totally visit again. more

What's not to love about cocktails on the patio? 6/2/2010

I recently returned here and enjoyed the patio, cocktails, and friendly service. I'm already planning the next trip back! Pros: Location, patio, fresh squeezed juices more

Great drink (if a bit pricey), but the food is always a downer 3/24/2008

I popped into 22 doors last night to have a cocktail and grab a bit to eat. The drink was great, but the food was terribly disappointing. I got the grilled cheese and butternut squash soup appetizer. The sandwich was fine, but the soup was horrifying. It had the consistance of water and tasted like undercook potatos. It would take a lot to convince me that it had any squash in it at all! Pros: Great drinks Cons: BadBadBad Food and high prices more

Amateur hour... 1/30/2008

People seem to like this place for drinks, and I have been once at night and had an alright experience. However, I highly recommend you give the brunch a miss. Firstly, the decor is all over the map and doesn't present well in daylight. I've been twice, the first time they over cooked the eggs in my eggs benedict (hard as a rock, I'd asked for them runny) when they brought me a new plate, this time the eggs were barely cooked, the whites were transparent in parts, yuck! How about somewhere in between? It's an egg, who can't cook an egg? We tried again last weekend and my husband was told what he wanted wasn't available, so he ordered pancakes, but with regular butter, not the orange butter they use. They came with the orange butter. Try again. They come back with another stack, regular butter this time, but no syrup. He had to get up from the table to find a waitperson to ask for the syrup. They bring it, but it turns out to be honey. Hunt for waitperson again. We're told they are out of syrup and that's what the kitchen came up with. They're across the street from a QFC, send someone over! Gaaack. No wonder people wait for 40 minutes to get into Coastal Kitchen rather then go to 22 Doors where there's no wait. Next time I'll do the same. Pros: Location, seated promptly Cons: Service and quality of kitchen staff, ambience, parking more

The only place I haven't left a tip in 10 years 8/14/2007

Wow, this place was really a bummer. Poor food and worse service. I went when they first opened and thought maybe it was just a fluke, went back about 2 weeks ago for brunch. My huevos rancheros tasted like the beans came from a mix and the eggs were totally hard boiled! We could never get the waiter to return and they had plenty of staff for the size. Too bad, it would be nice to have another good option up there. Pros: Good location and menu has variety Cons: Bad food and worse service more

New gun in the kitchen. Lovely Staff. 7/25/2007

Well I don't know where these negative reviews come from. I tried to see if they were just cranks and decided they were. As an owner you sure hate to see someone walk away mad from your place and then get thier frustrations out online. It should be easy to discern hooey from real life though if you just pay attention. Anyone whose only written one review EVER and uses phrase like " I've had better service at Ihop" is just out for revenge and hopes to do a business harm. Probably an ex-employee who got CAUGHT ripping the place off or SLEEPING on his/her shift. (you know who you are) So.. read reviews with a grain of salt. You don't have to actually like food or people to write a review on citysearch. Too bad. Maybe reviewers should have a TRUST rating given them by other reviewers or something? more

Great cocktails, outstanding french fries, mediocre entree 6/17/2007

I ordered the flank steak medium, and my girlfriend ordered her burger medium rare. Both came to our table well done. The flank steak was more like chuck, and I couldn't chew more than half of it before I ran out of energy. I ended up taking it home but handing it off to someone who was asking for food. But the cocktails were lovely: my girlfriend had the blueberry mojito and thought she'd died and gone to heaven. And the fries are truly excellent. Our friend both had veggie burgers, which they apparently make by hand--they were really good and came with the fabulous fries. That's what I would order if I go back for more than cocktails. The atmosphere was nice, though. And although I know others have had less than stellar service, our server was very attentive and thoughtful. Overall, I'll go back for drinks but only order food if I'm lazy and don't want to go elsewhere after a few drinks. Pros: french fries, cocktails Cons: food more

Service was slow, in fact pathetic! Never coming back! 3/26/2007

I decided to give it one last try at 22 Doors and I really wish I had not. Service was pretentious and slow as if they were doing me a favor by waiting on me. I really have to say I will never come back here nor recomend it to anyone. I have had better service at the IHOP if that explains anything to you. I wish I would have read the reviews of 22 Doors before coming back, that many people cant be wrong. I will say that I hope to enjoy your fries somewhere else one day, maybe the chef will take them to a much frendlier environment to be enjoyed once again. Sad to see a place ruined by the staff, I wont be back. more

Service is ruining the place 1/23/2007

Okay, I wrote before about giving them a break about the service b/c they were new --back then. Went with friends for dinner this time and it took about an hour for the fries--thought they had forgotten them. The waitress was truly clueless-the place was not even crowded as an excuse. The other food-- which came before the fries which were meant to be an appetizer to share--was cold. Seriously, I want to love this place-it's right in the neighborhood, has great drinks and atmosphere-but please guys fire your wait staff before it's too late and your rep. is completely ruined! Pros: drinks Cons: service is horrible and makes it not worth going more

Crab cakes! 1/22/2007

We went to this place around 5:00PM for the happy hour. We ordered the crab cakes and chicken sausage & shrimp satays. The description on the menu said "three small crab cakes," so we expected them to be very very tiny, considering it was just $4 a plate. But, they weren't as small as we expected. Great deal for $4. They were not greasy at all and had OK amount of crab meat. One regret was that we ended up paying $6 for a glass of beer. It wasn't the restaurant's fault though. My husband asked the bartender what kind of stout they had, and the bartender listed Guinness and two other beers, so he ordered Guinness, thinking that was a draft, which is $3 during the happy hour. It wasn't! It was $6... oh well, that was our mistake... Pros: Crab Cakes Cons: Not so attentive waiter more

Fire Your Waitstaff!!!! 1/17/2007

When this place first opened, we had many a great night sipping quality cocktails at the bar. The last couple of times I have been there, however, and had the misfortune of sitting in the dining room/bar tables, I have been soooo sorely disappointed. The service is ambivalent, slow, unapologetic (apparently there's always reason to apologize-mistake after mistake) and frustrating. I am tired of cold food, "kitchen errors", i.e. waitress forgot to fire order, slow service and a complete lack of friendly customer service. I won't go back. Ever. Especially with Liberty just right down the street, a MUCH better choice. more

Great place for good drink and groovy tunes! 1/12/2007

Just went to the Doors and have to say they have some kickass cocktails! Tried the gin cosmo and now I'm hooked, they also had some great tunes playing that I dont get hear too much anywhere else. Next time I am going to have to try the food. Good place to chill with friends or a date. more

Real Comfort Food 1/10/2007

Small and lowly lit, it's almost easy to miss this place. However, I think missing this place would be a mistake. My fiance and I went in and ordered appetizers. The waitress recommended a good bottle of wine. The appetizers came shortly. They were both eclectic and playful. I had the lamb marsala with mushroom risotto, which was rich and tender. My fiance had the green curry pork, which was delightfully spicy and very tasty. The portions were large so we had no room for dessert. So we opted for having a glass of port next to the fire. Next time I go in, I want to try something off their large and creative drink list. Pros: Ambiance, food Cons: Service a little slow more

Eat at Doors 1/10/2007

I have to confess, one of the things I love most about this place is the chef. And that they serve Estrella Creamery Cheese. And well, That there's a fireplace and cool art on the wall. And that I love the food, especially the specials, which are always a delightful tasty suprise. I had a truly memorable piece of salmon. and in Seattle that's saying something. more

Hey they lowered their Beer prices! 1/9/2007

Well then, after some regime changes it seems this place has come back to it's former glory. I can't think of another place with more personable servers and so many delicious hot drinks. Toddys, hot buttered rum and hot cider with bourbon are all on their Libations menu. It's snowing right now and I'm having a duck confit salad with spiced sugared pecans and glass of wine. Very reasonable prices for the quality of ingredients in use. I'll come back again if I can get the fireplace table! To bad about the smoking ban, the outdoor patio looks inviting. Oh yeah, and I complained about the beer prices and they lowered them a buck. Thanks! Pros: Best fries in town hands down, with truffle oil, ouch! Cons: Service can be slow when their busy. more

Horrible Customer Service 10/27/2006

My husband and I ate at 22 Doors and were extremely disappointed with our experience. When our food was served, our waitress said to us, "Your toast is coming." We never received our toast, nor were we checked upon during our meal. My husband ordered the huevos rancheros and in one of his bites, was an extremely hard piece of what looked like bone in it. Both, in itself were not that troubling. We had finished our meal by the time our waitress came by again. When we informed our waitress first about the bone, she told us that it was part of the beans. Then when I said that we never received our toast, she didn't say anything, then mumbled, "I'm sorry." We told her that it was o.k. and that we didn't need the toast anymore. When she presented us with our check, she told us, "If you come back next week, we'll buy you a drink" and left. Huh? First, she didn't tell us her name, or if she was in any way the owner of 22 Doors. What did she expect us to do? Just come by sometime and tell the staff that "someone" told us that we were entitled to a free drink? Who would believe that? And, after her reaction to us, why would she even assume we would come back? Or was that the point? At any rate, neither issues were really that big of a deal, but the reaction our waitress had and the cummulative experience made us extremely unhappy by the time we paid our bill. Pros: Ambience Cons: Food is not good, service was terrible more

Truffle fries, great drinks and flan! 8/26/2006

The truffle fries at 22 doors are always fabulous. They're made with shoe string fries and then drizzled with truffle oil. Bartenders here are experienced and make wonderful drinks from scratch. The chef apparently enjoys working with fish, and we had a baked cod appetizer done in a japanese fashion that was delicious. The coconut flan was amazing. Pros: Bar, Fries, Fish and flan Cons: TV in restaurant more

service is ruining this place 8/2/2006

This place is really cool looking with great drinks, however, the service is terriblei mean, it is Slooooooooooooooow. Not just with drinks either. It took a good hour to get an order of french fries--thought they had forgotten them. The waitress we had was pretty clueless, i hate to say...our food was cold when it came. Get the service together and it might be worth it.. Pros: atmosphere, drinks, decor Cons: service! more

  • The Scene
With a bar fashioned out of 22 mahogany doors from the historic Camlin Hotel and railings from the Seattle Opera House, this bistro preserves local art-deco history while maintaining a trendy vibe. Hipsters vie for the nifty blue vinyl bar stools and tip back classic cocktails, including sours, fizzes and flips. You'll even find a few families spreading out in the spacious booths.

    The Food
You can judge a restaurant by its crab cakes, and the meaty appetizer here reflects the quality to come. The entree list is short but mighty. Rib chops, uniquely seasoned with anchovy butter, cut easily from the bone. Pork loin arrives teetering on a goat cheese-potato cake. The chef prides himself on fish as well, from salmon, served with poached egg and caviar, to the catch of the day (this night, a thick, seared tuna). Others might opt for the burger, featuring naturally raised Angus.
