Review content:
I too, remember this place from back in the day and was glad to move back to within walking distance. Had heard from a couple of people that it had gone downhill but my nostalgia blinded me. Until today when I took one bite of my pignoli tart and it was OFF, i.e. tasted kinda stale. Btw I've been eating pignoli pastries since I was a kid - mostly from Terrizzi 'cause it was closer to where I lived. So one more bite to confirm and I went back into La Guli and told the (short dark-haired) girl behind the counter that it tasted stale to me and asked if I could change it for something else. She claimed the pignoli was from this morning, said, ""I don't know"" and just stood there giving me a face. WTF? After it dawned on me she wasn't going to help, I said, ""How about, Sorry you're not happy with your tart. What can I do?"" Then a portly old guy with glasses, I'm thinking the owner, started shushing me and chimed in with even more attitude, yelling and shoving my money back at me. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL!! Anything they have at La Gruesome you'll find by crossing 31st where there are two old-school bakeries St. Honore and Astoria Bakery II on the South side of Ditmars Blvd. PS a couple of the other reviews sounded suspiciously like plugs from the inside. Cons: Stale Pignoli Topped with RUDE worker and owner
