I scheduled an appointment with this dentist and they invited me to come in for a quick look prior to the appointment for an antibiotic prescription. I arrived on my lunch break and they wanted to do full x-rays and the purpose of the "quick visit" was obviously not communicated. When I tried to explain what had been discussed on the telephone, i.e. that I was only there for a quick look and the antibiotics and was not prepared to have x-rays taken at that time due to time constraints, the dentist was very confrontational and unprofessional.
The next day, his offices called me and told me not to come back.
If you need a simple cleaning or minor cosmetic dentistry, he may be good at that. I needed a potentially difficult extraction. I asked on the telephone before scheduling the appointment if they were a full-service dental practice or if they would need to refer me to other specialists. They assured me on the telephone that they had an oral surgeon at the offices once a month and we would simply need to schedule around that. At the office visit, however, the dentist told me that he may need to refer me to an outside specialist and did not seem to know what I was talking about when I tried to explain what had been discussed on the telephone.
I nearly walked out right then but I needed the antibiotics. So I responded with a "yes, sir" and "no, sir" to his questions to acquire the prescription. He was going to prescribe Zithromax, a very potent antibiotic. I asked if there was something milder that wouldn't kill all of my gut flora and he prescribed 500mg amoxicillin instead. I suspect he felt that I was second guessing him but I was simply asking a question and expecting a professional opinion.
I regret the experience and the miscommunication. It's unfortunate because I could have really used his services and had already scheduled the day off work for the full appointment. Luckily, another dentist agreed to see me on that day. Your mileage may vary with Dr. Call.. I'm sure he's a nice guy otherwise..
