Ok. Let me just say, simply, that this place is great! Totally unexpected gem in the middle of Oakland. Really well-made rooms - very clean and stylish. Their website is a really accurate representation of the rooms, though the rooms are actually much larger than they appear. The staff was very friendly and helpful. My boyfriend and I will most definitely be back!

Oakland Museum of California is like a 3 level building with an additional area for special events. I've been here twice already and enjoyed both times I was there. The first visit they had a special showing of "The Lost City of China" where they had pictures, clothing, and items from the ancient Chinese dynasty. It truly was amazing to see such historic value show cased to the public for a small fee. They also supplied head sets that explained each show case which was great. You can wander off and don't have to stick with a group. The second visit was for school which I had to stay on one level at the museum. It was where they had the various animals and species around California. This is a place you have to visit if your ever in Oakland.

With the baseball season coming down to its final weeks, playoff fever is really hitting the East Bay. The A's, as usual, are right in the thick of things, having decided to make things interesting only when it matters. And all the fans are just fine with that. Come down to the park for some quality ball. Wednesdays are $2 upper level seats plus one dollar hot dogs, yes ONE DOLLAR. Check out the local sports page for other fun ofers. An A's game is unlike any other team in the majors. The drums, the chants, the horns...great time.

First visit to Cafe Van Kleef: What an amazing "joint to joint"! (Prince fans, you know what I'm talking about!) Not only did I receive VIP treatment from the owner, Peter Van Kleef himself, but I also received much love from the locals! Peter, mahalo for the shot of tequilla, your special margarita, the Cabo San Lucas-esque trigger shots of more tequilla (OMG!), the off-the-hook linguisa, and most importantly, the warm alohas. Aloha a hui how in peace, love, and light... Lisa
Pros: local musicians
Cons: loud

The first time I ever went to a ice skating ring was The Oakland Ice Center. When I first entered I knew it was going to be fun. The steps to getting into the ring is fast and everyone is nice there. My family members also enjoy skating in the wonder environment. The prices is also good and there is also arcades to play when you are taking a break from skating. You should visit here if you stop by Oakland.

This is the Bay Area’s #1 place for general music supplies. Lots brass, woodwinds, guitars, strings, huge percussion room, and an expert staff that knows how to play the instruments they’re selling. The repair shop is downstairs and has some of the best instrument technicians anywhere. I use Ron to keep my clarinets in order and he always goes above and beyond. Sheet music, reeds, mouthpieces, everying…

I love watching movies, but I love watching movies on the full screen even better. The Parkway theater in Oakland is the best theater ever! You can see only slightly old movies for pretty cheap and... you can snuggle in on one of their many couches. If you're going to a popular show, remember to get their early if you want a couch -- they go quickly. Also, for the penny pinchers out there, remember that Wednesday night is 2 for 1 night, so you and your friend can go to a movie for $5...this also means you can see two movies for the price of one! It's an excellent deal.
Their menu is good. I'd highly recommend the nachos. They also serve beer & wine. If you aren't lucky enough to get a couch, don't worry, there are tables to put your food in the regular movie theater seats too. All in all, this place is the best movie experience in the bay area!

Sarber's Cameras in Oakland is one of the best Camera shops in town. They have a wider variety of camera accessories for the film and digital. I am a digital photographer and Sarber's is one place I have to always check out for the newest equipment out in production. The service is great and very knowledgeable to your needs. They usually have items in stock if not they can special order them for you and give you a call when the item arrives. It usually doesn't take no longer than I week from experience. Sarber's Cameras is one place you have to visit if you're a hobbyist or professional.
