A nice surprise: Good food, good prices at Tin Chue Chinese & Vietnamese Restaurant 7/30/2007

I stumbled upon Tin Chue by accident and was very pleasantly surprised. While the food is average-to-good by my jaded standards (I eat in Chinatown whenever I can), it's carefully prepared and several cuts above the greasy nondescript junk that passes for Chinese food in most suburban strip malls. The Wor Shu duck we had was an unusual dish for a suburban restaurant and quite nicely prepared. It's obvious that the folks working here take pride in what the make and take care in everything from their sauces to how the veggies are cut and cooked. The Vietnamese food was also very good. If you have not tried their Vietnamese menu, I suggest you do. It's different than Chinese but not scary or weird - the flavors are lighter and more vibrant and makes a nice change from the usual. The pancake appetizer was one of the best I've had as were their non-fried spring rolls. The fried pork over rice noodles dish we had might not be everyone's cup of tea because it's served cold but we thought it was wonderful. Oh, did I mention that the prices are very very reasonable? We had two appetizers and two main dishes and ran up a $25 tab - not much more than a fancy pizza dinner. I'll be back when I'm in the neighborhood. more
