Comprised of independent producers of cheeses, baked goods, meats, and produce for starters, there is a discovery with every turn. This is the place where I first discovered carrots aren't necessarily orange, but purple and green too! Or that fresh grown tomatoes, from the more obscure varieties, could practically constitute a dessert in themselves.
In peak summer and fall months, Whole Foods nearby pales in comparison to this market, both in offerings and the experience. No wonder why local restaurants make a point of buying their ingredients here - this is a true New York experience.
