My main house shut-off valve broke, it wouldn't open after I shut it off. I called Progressive Plumbing and Piping. They told me I have to pay $80 for the guy to come in and look at my valve, even though I told them exactly what needs to be fixed. OK, I bit the bullet. The guy came in, took a look, told me my shut off valve needed to be replaced (DUH!) and it would cost me $320 after discount. What was I to do, calll another guy to pay him $80 for telling me my shut off valle needed to be replaced?. I bit hte bullet again. He spent all of 15 minutes making a hole in the wall and replacing the valve. When I saw the finished work, I started wondering how he's going to close the hole, because the valve handle was INSIDE the wall when it was in the shut position. He said they don't close holes, and if I'm concerned about drafts I could just fill the inside space with some insulation foam and leave the hole open. Really?
