""Norman Rockwell"" setting; good food; GREAT DESSERTS! 7/8/2006

The little town of Sherman is as Americana as apple pie. How apt, since the in-house bakery serves up the best part of the meal--baked dessets like apple pie! The main seating area is clean and pristine, with about a dozen or more tables. There appears to be more seating upstairs, and there are tables on the outdoor patio. The staff is friendly and attentive.\r \r The food was good to great, and inexpensive. The portions are more than adequate. I had the Yankee PotRoast open faced sandwich served with mashed potatoes, and could not quite finish it. (The dinner portion would likely have been an overkill for me.) I did, however, glean every tender, savory bit of PotRoast. The thick gravy is lightly seasoned with herbs, and really adds to the flavor of the meat. I would rate it ""perfect"", and would go there again for the PotRoast. \r \r My wife had an open faced, roasted turkey sandwich. It was good, but not great. Certainly worth the modest price. I would order it if I wanted turkey, but would not drive there just to get that dish. (Try the Curtis House in Woodbury for fantastic turkey!) Running a fresh cooked turkey breast through a meat slicer sort of detracts from the taste, but certainly from the appearance of home cooked bird.\r \r Save room for desert, because they have a bakery attached to the restaurant. You can choose from fresh baked pies and cakes, an I think there were some pudding-type deserts. The pie was very good, especially the crust. You definitely know you are eating home-made pie! We had stawberry-rubarb and apple pie, and it was a great finish to a delightful experience. I can't wait to try the peach-raspberry. \r \r Meanwhile, I'm waiting for my meal to settle so I can sample the giant cookies we brought home from the bakery--peanut butter, shortbread, chocolate chip, and oatmeal raisin. A bonus for having a bakery on the way out! Enjoy! Pros: Quaint town setting; clean, attractive dining; bakery attached. Cons: Limited menu, but diverse and adequate more
