Eating at Ella's Deli is a must if you are in the Madison area! When you walk in, you will feel like a kid again, no matter what your age is. With all sorts of motorized toys zipping along the ceiling, and baseball cards, pez dispensers, miniatures, etc. under glass at the tables, your eyes will have as much of a feast as your stomach will! Don't forget to take a ride on the old fashioned carousel :) Oh, and the food is AMAZING!

I went there and it was a blast! The bar tender gave my friend and I extra wings plus very generous with the pitchers. We stayed until close. This place has a nice crowd and we were able to get a seat right at the bar.

I've been around the block in Madison restaurants. I just don't think you'll find any better than this one. Especially if steaks are your thing.
Pros: steaks, sides, service

My wife and I had Wasabi cater our wedding because of the fabulous service and wonderful food we received in the past. We actually live downtown so the walking is a plus for us. The prices are cheaper while the food remains competitive. The atmosphere is very casual. I do wish that the interior was updated a little to compliment the great food and so Wasabi could get greater attention it so much deserves.
Pros: food, service
Cons: ambiance, parking for non residents

This restaurant is run and owned by an Indonesian family that came here from Bandung. It started in 2000 with a very small menu, but now even serves a Rijsttafel menu nightly.
They make their own tempeh and now even have a delivery option. I really enjoy their oseng oseng tempe and the bakmi goreng jahe.
The only complaint I have is that parking is very limited. The sttaff seems pretty knowledgeable and the atmosphere is a pleasant one.
I would definitely recommend a trip here. I think it's the only Indonesian restaurant in Madison.
Pros: Great Indonesian food, serves signature cocktails, great artwork
Cons: Parking

I tended to agree with some of these other reviews, in saying that the food is phenomenal, though the waitstaff (the managers) had poor people skills (due mostly to their lack of English), but now they have hired quite good waitresses that are very friendly and courteous.
As for the atmosphere, yes it is somewhat 'dingy', and quite corny, but satisfying and comfortable.
I have been many places and have eated a lot of food. Let me assure you: Vientiane will continue to rank in my top 5 restaurants in the world. If you are debating, definitely go!

The Nitty Gritty began as a bar and coffee house for the radical set at University of Wisconsin. The management has evolved with the times, and now its a feel good burger joint that prides itself on being the best place to go for a birthday in Madison. Celebrants get a free beer and a desert, and the burgers are thick and juicy.
