did you say "none of real korean people don't go here?" grammar aside, who, then, are all the korean people i see eating there every time i go? are they actors? robots? seriously, friend, give me a break. this place is the real deal and no amount of nay-saying or backlash can change that. the meat is excellent, the vibe is dead-on (and, therefore, not swanky by any means) and the beer is cold. want swank? go to chosun galbi or tahoe galbi or even yissi hwaro (which is also durned good). but if you want terrific, charcoal-grilled meat--and the best eel and mino i've had in the city--this is your spot.

Here we go. This is the stuff. This is the joint.
This is my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles.
I’ve been here at least 75 times over the past few years. I used to go at least once a week, I was almost in need of a Vietnamese intervention.
Now, I could live solely on Asian cuisine. Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Korean and Japanese. In that order. Write that down. You’ll be tested.
I’ve only been to four Vietnamese restaurants in LA. I’ve not branched out, I admit. I just hate being disappointed. There is no Pho broth like Le Saigon’s.
You don’t want to be around me when I eat Pho. It’s a bit stomach turning. Let’s just say, I perspire. A lot. The table will soon be covered in damp napkins, like snow on a field. I get hot at the drop of a hat, as it is. I keep a fan blowing on my face all day at work. I sleep with a fan on me. Pho would not be my ideal meal to eat on a date.
What I ate yesterday was the make your own spring roll platter, if you will. You get all the meat, veggies, lettuce and herbs and the moistened rice paper and you roll your own. Nice. It always is enough for two meals.
However, usually I alternate between the Pho and the noodle dishes (Bun) when I go. The fresh herbs and julienne vegetables are flavorful and usually pristine.
I did see a microscopic wriggling worm on my mint leaf today. That did not stop me from continuing to consume at a rapid pace. I just discarded the leaf without a second thought.
Is that a deal breaker for you guys? Come on! It was so tiny. If we only knew all the woodland creatures that were hanging out in our salads!

you'll always be greated by the smiling owner. the quality of the meat is always great, and who can resist the dipping sauces. its pricier than the AYCE places but its worth it. Always get the deckle and the short ribs. YUM!
Pros: awesome dukbosam, always welcome by the smiling owner
Cons: can be crowded at times, a little pricey

We have been frequenting blue hen for three years and absolutely looove it! I mean, organic AND vegetarian pho? I have yet to find another place that even serves veggie pho. The staff is always friendly. Obviously expect to wait longer when it's crowded, but the food is so tasty that it's worth the extra five minute wait. I love supporting local businesses, and the fact that they ate consciencious about the environment is a plus. They don't even use styrofoam on take out.

My mom is Korean so I have been to my fair share of Korean restaurants but Dong Il Jang has always been one of my favorite, if not my favorite, since I can remember. The restaurant is much larger than other Korean restaurants with separate dining areas including a place for larger parties. The food is extremely authentic, especially the ban chans (Korean side dishes) and the meat is cooked in front of you on the table so you can control how well done you like your meat. The food is always very fresh and flavorful and the menu offers a wide variety of entrees including noodles, meats, fishes and soups. The only down side of Dong Il Jang is that it is almost too authentic in that the employees don??????t seem to speak English so unless you are familiar with Korean dining or are with someone who is, or speaks Korean, I would imagine that it is hard to order and communicate with the waitress. I guess this is what you can expect at an authentic restaurant located in the heart of LA??????s Koreatown. Other highlights include fast service, cleanliness, plenty of seats and a big parking lot.

Thank GOD i don't have to drive an hour to Little Saigon for AUTHENTIC PHO!!!!!! I have tried them ALL folks. And this is the one. Born in Vietnam, raised in L.A., and i won't go anywhere else. NOT just the Pho is authentic the Rolls, Baguette Sandwiches, and of course the Vietnamese Iced Coffee. I LOVE this place. This is by far the best Korean restaurant in Los Angeles. I've been to many and the food here is outstanding. I've been here a few times now and I recommend the "seafood pa-jun" which is like a pancake and any of their bbq meats. Their small side dishes are better than any other Korean joint in town. It's an old small place and seems to get very busy during dinner hours so don't expect great service, but you will definitely get great food. Go with a larger group so you can try more dishes at once.
