Works Of Art Hair Salon 6/27/2010

I used to spend the big bucks on all the super stars of hair in Los Angeles - you know who I mean. Besides never being overwhelmed with the result the recession hit and I could no longer afford it so I made the mistake of trying to do it alone. Realizing my hair was a fried blond disaster with no shape whatsoever I came here and read all of the reviews of Works Of Art, booked and went. I look the best I ever have in my life. Every review here is true. Art is really YOU oriented but also a complete artist. The salon is beautiful - a light deco furniture filled loft with the walls displaying the work of local artists. But the best is Art himself. Kind, compassionate, a true artist. If you are reading this book that appointment and run don't walk. You wont regret it. Pros: best color and cut ever in my life more

What a find! 5/12/2010

What a find! As a discriminating New Yorker now living in Los Feliz, I was very discouraged about having to go west to Beverly Hills for a cut and highlights. I didn't even like most of the places I tried over there. This was by far the best hair color and cut that I've gotten since moving to Los Angeles. Beautiful studio space, with lots of natural light, so no surprises with the hair color. Art is a master both with color and with style, very engaging and down to earth. Everyone at the studio made me feel so welcome... I highly recommend this place for anyone whose standards are as high as mine, you won't regret it. Pros: Local, professional, awesome hair color and cut Cons: I didn't find it sooner! more

Always reliable 11/9/2009

I live in the Los Feliz Village area and I always set up my hair appt's with the man himself. I've been a regular for some years now and when I decided to cut my long hair for the first time in a long time, I trusted Art with the job.\r I literally closed my eyes for the duration of the cut and when I opened them, I was very happy with the work. \r \r Warm, genuine and professional service is always appreciated too; not to mention trust.\r \r Thanks! Pros: Friendly, attentive, and professional more

Works of Art is a wonderful salon owned and operated by the best hairstylist - Art. Art makes his clientel look classy and sharp. He keeps current with the trends and makes everyone beautiful. His salon doubles as an art gallery which makes visits interesting. Art is truly an artist! Pros: classy and trendy more

Jessie Rae is awesome!! 5/7/2009

I just moved from NYC where I was paying 100+ for a good haircut and had no idea where to go in LA. A friend recommended Jessie at Works of Art and she was fantastic and as of today only charges 60 which is more than reasonable. She is sweet and easy to talk to. She completely understands what her client wants and gives them that plus advice on how to best style the hair once it's cut. She did the coolest, prettiest twisty thing with my hair, and I left feeling confident I could replicate it. Go see her!! Pros: Beautiful space, Jessie, bumble and bumble products Cons: None I can think of more

Jessie is THE BEST!! 1/13/2009

I have lived in Los Angeles for about 6 years now and have been to several stylists with results ranging from awful to less awful. I went in last Saturday to see Jessie and THIS IS THE BEST CUT IN L.A. as far as I am concerned. I have wavy, unruly hair and Jessie turned my ""mop"" into a chic fun do. She spent a great deal of time discussing what I wanted, including looking at pictures and making a plan. She said that the consultation is the most important part of the visit and I have to agree. I explained that I have to have a wash-and-go kind of cut and that is exactly what I got!!! As far as the icing on the cake, I feel I have made a new friend and cannot wait for my next visit. The location is excellent and the people are friendly and warm. Even old ladies (I am 55) deserve to be pampered! My friend told me that I look 10 years younger now!! :-)\r \r more

Reasonable Prices, Good Cut / Color 10/27/2008

I went to Art for a cut and color after reading some of the positive reviews on Citysearch. The process took quite a while since he was working 3 of us at the same time. I like my cut and color and would definitely go back. The prices were more resonable than many other places that I have been. The atmosphere is just ""ok"" if you are looking for the fancy Beverly Hills vibe this might not be your cup of tea. Pros: prices, skill Cons: slow service more

JESSIE ROCKS!! 10/27/2008

Go to Jessie NOW! She?s amazing! I have been stylist hopping for at least a year since my old stylist moved, and finally, I?m home! I have gone to the most expensive places in LA, and haven?t been able to find anyone who could give me the ?wow? factor I was looking for. Then came sweet, unassuming Jessie at Works of Art, she gave my long hair the best cut it has ever had!! This was a month and a half ago, and I?m still getting compliments. So not only did it look fabulous when I walked out of the salon, it still looks fabulous every day with very minimal effort on my part. I am one of those girls that is generally considered ?cute? ? no one has ever called me ?glamorous,? but since my haircut, several people, independent of each other, have used that magic word! The salon is terrific ? hip and stylish without being pretentious ? the atmosphere is relaxing and friendly ? and the prices are really reasonable. Make an appointment with Jessie at Works of Art today ? unless you?ve got something against looking awesome. Pros: Amazing haircut more

GREAT CUT AND COLOR FROM JESSIE! 10/17/2008

What a wonderful experience! I recently got my haircut and colored by Jessie Rae and the results are nothing short of amazing. I hadn't had my hair cut or colored professionally in over two years, it was a terrible mess, and Jessie genuinely cared enough to really evaluate what needed to be done and advise me accordingly. She then executed the best cut and color I have ever had. Seriously! She is a true artist and a professional, I am so so so grateful! (as is my husband!) She is also wonderfully sweet and fun to talk to. The vibe of the entire place is also very friendly and cool. Cool space, too! THANK YOU, JESSIE! more

You'll be hooked too. 9/12/2008

I had reservations about this place the first few times, simply because... well it's expensive. Maybe not by Beverly Hills standards, but expensive enough for me. That and it takes a really really long time.\r \r Well I've been showing up there every six weeks for over a year now, and there's no end in sight. Why? Because Art is a color genius. My hair has never looked better in my life, and it seems almost effortless for him. Plus he's an awesome stylist too. I get compliments on my hair all the time!.\r \r So be warned"" It's an addiction. You might little bit poorer, but you will look amazing. more

Works of Art Hair Salon 9/5/2008

The best hair cut I've ever had. It washed out well and looks great with very little maintenance. It's been a month and a half since the cut and it looks like it's growing out very well. Very highly recommended. Pros: Ambiance, Service Cons: Parking more

Art is FANTASTIC! 7/21/2008

I have been to Works of Art twice and now I will not go anywhere else. I live on the eastside and had been driving into Beverly Hills to get my hair done because I thought the best salons were all on that side of town - I was wrong! On the recommendation of Citysearch and a random woman with beautifuI hair who I met at a dinner party - I came Art's salon. I have had both cut and color with Art and he is the most talented stylist I have ever been to - I completely trust him. I am pretty particular about my long hair, and he gave me a great cut with lots of movement and swing. His color is the best I have ever seen. He spends so much time with each client and will look at you in the light, consider color samples, take what you want into consideration - but gives his honest expert opinion about what will look great on you. And he is always right!!! He is a true artist with pride in how he makes women look - I was not out of the salon 5 minutes and had received three compliments from strangers about my gorgeous hair! I'm telling you - go see Art (or maybe don't go - because I don't want every other girl in los angeles walking around with hair as pretty as mine... !!!) more

Best haircut in LA! 6/10/2008

It's taken me forever to find a place in LA I want to return to but at last my searching has ended! I've been around town looking, too, from trendy hipster bohemian places to upscale Beverly Hills places. If you're looking for someone to expertly work with your hair type, personal taste, and stying needs, Art is your man. He took the time and consideration to give a cut that worked for me and was meticulous about the execution. I have fine hair and too many times stylists didn't take that or my more classic tastes into consideration, razoring wispy layers or giving me a style I didn't ask for - I believe in an attempt to disguise their lack of technical experience. Art is amazing with the scissors and I got exactly what I requested - a chic, sophisticated cut that totally suits my hair type and style I was going for. He also did my color and it looks rich and shiny and absolutely perfect - The first stylist to walk me over into the sun with the color samples to see how they look against me in natural light. A true professional, a great low key location, and friendly staff, what more could you want?! Pros: scissor skills, considering hair type & style needs, price more

Shear Genius!! 2/7/2008

Let me start by saying I have very fine, limp, long hair. Not only is it fine but its also very thin (to the point where I'm constantly worried that I'm balding!). Of course its human nature to want what we don't have and so I love and want hair with lots of body and volume. I'm basically every stylists nightmare! I had just moved to LA and was looking for a stylist so one of my friends recommended me to Michelle at Works of Art Hair Salon in Los Feliz. Its always nerve racking trying out a new stylist for the first time but as soon as I walked into the salon I was immediately put at ease.\r \r All the staff at Works of Art are so friendly and genuine. It really is such a breathe of fresh air going there compared to many other pretentious, catty, over-priced salons. The set up and decor of Works of Art is very warm and cozy yet modern and functional. Its hard not to feel right at home there.\r \r Michelle is a genious with scissors. I have had many haircuts in my life (I'm a bit of a salon junkie) but this by far is my favourite cut ever. Michelle does not believe in overprocessed hair. Although she can and will create any style/look you desire her preference is to give you a cut that allows your hairs natural beauty to shine through. Since seeing Michelle I get countless compliments on my hair. The best part is I have the dream hair that I've been looking for and it only takes me 5 minutes or so to style!!! I've since been back and have had my hair colour done by her too. Michelle is as good with colouring as she is with cutting. I highly recommend Michelle at Works of Art to anyone! more

Great hair products recommended by a true expert! 10/25/2007

Art has a very exclusive line of products that I knew nothing about. Came in to set appt for next week (hair coloring), but not much was available since he's usually very booked. While there, I asked Art if he could suggest something for tight curls. I've been looking for something that give me a dry, but not puffy look and that won't dry my scalp. He right away mentioned a product for the curl conscious by Bumble and Bumble. I figured there's no harm in trying another product. Bottom line is I've used it a couple of times and it gives me the results I wanted. I'm sure you can find the product in other places, but the expertise of someone like Art to right away be able to point you in the right direction for the right product for your hair, you can be sure to find at Art's. I can't wait for my hair appt next week! I will comment again in the results. Promise. Pros: Expertise in products Cons: parking more

ARTist Hair feeling sooo much better 5/16/2007

The only thing that this place is missing is a driver to take you home. I had an extremely stressful week. So what better way to cheer the mind and body then to go and reward yourself with a clean styled haircut. Well I was referred by a friend of mine to come here and experience the delight of a space that is as chill as the space of the classic Hollywood period. Very much a warm space. Now it's time for you to relax and let the Art take over. He is one with your hair, and with what you are trying to achieve. I have now referred several of my women friends and now I have many lovers. \r Truthfully, I was impressed. Thanks to my friend who referred me here, and to Art. Pros: reasonably priced, and the stylists take there time. And the customers are nice as well Cons: My hair doesn't grow enough! more
