Disneyland for my MOUTH 6/21/2010

i drove from Dallas on FRIDAY and left New. Mexico yesterday morning. TODAY i woke up and went directly there to have vegan soul food aka chicken and waffles with real maple syrup and orange sauce that IS questionably sweet. I notice that I myself am tempted to overdo it on sugar, but there are other choices i will try TOMORROW! I love this place, I would LOOOVE to have a replica in Dallas, my experience with the stuff was warm, and jovial, but of course i went in there that way. I wonder if this might be a case of 'you get what you give'. I love the food, the prince on surround sound, the window seating and outdoor seating! LOOOVE IT! Pros: YUMMMMMM food, VEGAN, pro-Human AND Animal Cons: consumers posting their own psycho trauma more

Good food... meh service. 8/4/2008

The food is really good, but the service is odd. This lady who was helping me (late 40s early 50s) seemed to be absent-minded, which made me wonder whether she was actually getting what I was saying. The food came out very quickly which was a big plus, but when it came time to pay she got all defensive because I gave her a coupon from this site. She pretended like she didn't know what it was and started talking about me to pretty much all the staff right in my face. I thought that was terribly rude considering my tab was still pretty large and my tip was more than generous (25%). I will probably go back, but if I get her again I won't even tip her a**. Pros: food, prices Cons: service, parking. more

insects are not so vegan 7/17/2008

I was one of the number one customers here. The food is good for the price, and I always try to support vegan restaurants. I brought my whole family over many times, since it's good food for even non-vegetarians. The last time I went, though, I ordered my regular mushroom soup. It was served with many, many little insects in it. I was told that it was just garlic or pepper, but when I pointed out that the spices each had 6 legs, they took my soup back. They told me they wouldn't charge me for it. I was also given a free piece of vegan cheesecake to make up for this. I think after eating insects I was entitled to a free meal, especially since we were such loyal customers. I was not terribly pleased with the service, obviously, but I do wish them luck in the future. I do think they mean well, and as I said, the food was good enough for me to have been a regular at one point. Unfortunately, I will not be going back. Pros: good for non-vegetarians, too Cons: read my review more

Avoid Parking, walk 7/12/2008

The people here are sweet. Great fun. The food is adequate and filling. The prices are cheaper than cheap. I read a few reviews and they're all over the place. Confusing even. I think this is one of those places that you have try out yourself. I've been to places when things weren't quite right and the experience was limited. Most of these places vary for me. If the price is right and the speed is there, I'll eat it. Pros: Small, Tasty, Cheap Cons: Parking, Is that always a problem in LA? more

Sub-Par Ingredients; Bland, Uninspired vegan cooking 7/10/2008

The prices at this place are very affordable, but that's about all I can say to recommend it. The food was really poor quality (I'm a chef, and I can spot low quality ingredients in a second). My friend and I ordered two different noodle dishes, and not only were the portions tiny, they were rather plain and unexciting. Of course, the prices here are so cheap, I was probably silly to expect really good food. I've heard a lot of positive things about this place, though, so I thought I'd give it a try myself. Alas, it was not worth the time or the money. I'd rather pay a little more money and get something better. Pros: Cheap Cons: Low Quality Ingredients more

Worst food experience to date 7/9/2008

I've been going to this place because I do love vegan food and it's conveniently in the neighborhood. But after last night, it will probably the last meal there. I ordered a mushroom burger. The burger came, but to a different table. I overheard the person who was delivered the mushroom burger saying ""I don't think I ordered this, why is there mushroom in it?"". She started picking the mushroom out one by one. The waitress realized her error, took the burger back. Within 2 minutes, she came back with ""my"" burger as if I didn't know what was going on. I told her ""may I please have another burger? I know the person next to me already touched the mushroom"". All of a sudden her face rushed with anger. She slammed the ketchup on my table (mind you there were ketchup drops flying) and walked away. No apologies, no nothing. I lost my appetite and love for this place. I was on my best customer behavior and I got the worst service. Sorry, no more. Cons: Service, sanitation (lack of) more

Wow! 4/11/2008

Excellent food at a very reasonable price! I ate here today for the first time today and will defiinitely be back, I got Pad Thai to be safe, and it was very good. I have a big sweet tooth so I ordered Thai tea and a piece of chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was packaged and was decent, probably won't get it again though. Oh yeah, and my food came out super fast, less than five minutes. This is a great spot for lunch. Parking might be difficult in this area but the parking Gods favor me and I got a spot at the door. Pros: price and flavor, cute joint Cons: maybe parking more

Great food, scary service 3/3/2008

The food was great but the service was seriously scary. I felt super rushed, almost as if we were being stalked. We were stared down as we read the menu. While we ate they looked at us like they were willing us to eat faster. And then we couldn't pay the bill fast enough. Pros: Great, healthy food Cons: SERVICE STINKS more

Great restaurant that happens to be healthy and vegan too. 3/1/2008

I moved right down the place from the Vegan Joint and only tried it because it is literally 100 ft. from my door. I'm a vegetarian and in general I avoid places that are strictly vegan or vegetarian because I don't think I'll really have good food there. I had friends who wanted to take me here and I always got out of it. That being said, since moving to the neighborhood three weeks ago,I'm addicted to this place. My unhealthy meat loving (double burger with fries both animal style from In and boyfriend) loves this place too. He even took his meea loving friend there one Saturday night before heading over to the Boardwalk 11 by themselves. I love the Tropical Pancakes, Seitan wrap, veggie wrap, Thai Tea with Boba...my boyfriend loves the Burrito #4, Chow Mein...basically everything we have tried has been yummy. The prices are very reasonable but since I'm making a new pact with my boyfriend to save money by cooking in, I'm already planning any dinner (friend) dates at this place. I seriously love this place and am very impressed. I don't ordinarily write reviews but I like to give props when due. Pros: Friendly, inexpensive, high quality healthy great tasting food with a wide variety of options. They even had french fries and egg rolls. Cons: Ambience is nice with two rooms but I love booths, not chairs more

where is the joy in this joint? 2/22/2008

I just didn't taste the love-- feels like maybe the organic veggies are frozen? But like a bad relationship, I just keep going back hoping that this time it will be different. I need to give up :( more

Good cowboy burger but avoid oldest waitress who has bad customer service 10/15/2007

I am just a japanese student who came to USA for study language if my word is not correct please appologize me. I got to this place with my friend who is a vegan girl and tried cowboy burger at the first time it so good, and i became a royale customer of this place but i usually order by delivery because it hard to have the parking. But the main reason to let me order by delivery is one of the waitress in this restuarant, I don't know her name but she is the oldest waitress who have a lot of make up on.I went back to this place again a few month ago and she made me uncomfortable when she waiting for my order and i ask her some question about the price if i want to add extra tofu in tofu yellow curry, she looking to me like i don't have money to pay and answer my question by the bad voice, after that she said in Thai language with aggressive voice to other server and change the new waitress to service me. I don't know what happened about her, I understand if she in the bad mood but i am a customer she should give me the good service. I like most of the food in this place but i would never back to this place again, next time if i want to eat again i will call and let them delivery for me! Because I love the food but i hate the waitress's service! more

The customer service could use some work... 4/22/2007

I went to Vegan Joint for the first time and the food was pretty good. I highly reccommend the pancakes. However, my concerns have nothing to do with the food. The waitress who waited on my friends and I seemed very agressive and made me feel uncomfortable when I asked a question. I used to waitress at a restaurant and when I approached to clear a table I wouldn't just snatch the plates from the table, I would say excuse me. I also asked about the available tea flavors and she responded very condescendingly to my question. I don't understand how you can be annoyed by a question that can't be answered on the menu. more

Great Customer Service! Amazing Food! 3/17/2007

I highly recommend that vegans and non-vegans out there try this place out. I am not even vegetarian and I LOVE it. It's healthy and delicious at the same time. What I appreciate the most is how friendly the people are that work there. The menu offers a really diverse range of food: from mushroom burgers with tofu scrambles, breakfast burritos, as well as Asian dishes like pad thai, beef and chicken sate and different curries. I have been there several times now and have enjoyed everything I've eaten. It's also very cheap and reasonably priced! If you want variety, and cheap delcious and healthy food, try the Vegan Joint. It's perfect for a student's budget. Pros: Service, Inexpensive food, Diverse menu Cons: Parking more

Great Food!! Simple but Tasty!! Quick Service!! 3/13/2007

Food was great! Service was speedy as can be. The waitresses were friendly. I think it depends on the time you go. Sometimes I notice that they get a little crazy with their orders but, they seem to listen and accommodate me!!!!!!!! Pros: Friendly Place, Good View, Healthy Eats Cons: Nothing worth noting!!!!!!!!!!!! more

awful experience 3/8/2007

I ordered by phone around 7:30, and didnt get it until 9:20. (and I live literally 7 min drive away) The food could have been good, but after almost 2 hrs it's half cold and half of the soup was out of the bowl in the plastic bag....the styrofoam bowl is also partially melted probably due to the hight temperature from the soup, and you can't be impressed by that. I gave the delivery guy a 30% tip, and seriously do not think will never wanna order or eat there again. Cons: customer service more

Laidback, Cheap, Scrumptious 1/28/2007

I first went to this place when it was a thai joint. I showed up & the place changed to ""The Vegan Joint"". I saw some thai food on the menu & decided to order the pad thai. I told them i wanted it thai style. nice & spicy. it tasted great!!!! I have been going back ever since. it's nice because while your hanging, you can play a couple of games then, visit a couple of antique stores on your way home. The people who hang there seem to be cool enough. See ya' there!!! Pros: Good crowd, Quaint, Cheap Cheap Cheap Cons: Can't complain yet!!!!!!!!! more

Cheap, Gracious, & Delicious 1/28/2007

After reading the other reviews, I decide to try this joint. I liked the coziness of the place and the female waitress seemed to be friendly enough. Service with a smile thai style thing. I went ahead and ordered the eggplant dish. It was colorful, tasty, and not over portioned. Just the way i like it. I wanted to try the Yellow Curry, like my partner sitting next to me, but i went with the eggplant. Since then I've gone back several times ..........nothing like good tasting cheap healthy food. And you don't have to go to the jammed packed hip la place to get it.......... Pros: Cheap, Casual, & Tasty Cons: Not alot of parking more
