Not worth the visit and rippoff 7/28/2009

The food was so so , the matradee was not honest looking (he looked liked he wanted a few extra bucks under the table for seating you in the band area if no room ) and they increased my tip about a few bucks on my card (to late when I found that out ) the waitress had an attitude hurry up and leave. This happen around Nov 2008. on a Saturday night. Will never go back. Cons: Tipping more

Best Prime Rib in Town 11/17/2008

Best prime rib, since the problems and shifting at the Golden Ox. Pros: Best Prime Rib in KC Cons: pricey more

Not worth it 11/15/2008

Go to the Power and Light District. The restaurants are a lot better and the food is great. When my wife and I went to the Majestic Steak House, we weren't impressed at all. We spent 150 dollars for terrible food and on top of that, really bad service. We've gone to the Steak House for the past 6 years and throughout the time, the restaurant has been going down hill. Pros: Not many pros but the Ambience would be the best. Seriously though, do you pay for the food or the ambience. Cons: Food, Service, Over Priced more

Over rated 7/22/2008

An adult family reunion of sorts with 15 people turned sour. Menu items advertised on the internet, The Majestics Matinee Specials do not exist any more. One family member offered ahead of time to pay for the meal. He expected a $400-500 bill (knowing most would pick one of their matinee specials) but he had fork over $770 for a sub par meal. Their two specials offerred that evening....Halibut and Beef Tenderloin were more expensive than their regular steaks. There was one waitress to accomodate our large group (we had reservations) so water glasses were often empty. My husband's steak was not cooked as he requested. The only bright spot in the evening was that the jazz group playing was quiet enough that we could visit with one another without difficulty. For the money, a Longhorn steakhouse steak is better. The jazz was good though. Pros: ambience jazz Cons: overpriced, average steak flavor more

Nice atmosphere, Nostalgic setting 11/13/2006

I was torn between the 6 oz. and the 8oz. Strip since it was lunch time. I opted for the strip. The meal was very nice, steak was cooked perfectly. A little pricey, so not for every day dining at lunch time. Wait staff was very nice, attentive. Only complaint.... I Love bread and there was none. Pros: Food, atmosphere, service Cons: No extras, expensive. more

Great ambience, great service, average food 8/13/2006

I stay in hotels and eat out 9 months out of the year, and I am the world's pickiest about food and service, that's first. Second I'll say Ruth's Chris is ALWAYS spectcular and I've eaten at 6 different ones over the years. Majestic was on par price-wise, meaning I paid 45 dollars for a steak that costs 35 at Ruth's Chris, but it was undercooked which was ok with me since I eat medium rare to medium (I asked for medium it was medium rare). The flavor was average, the tenderness was below average, it was chewy and seemed to have an abundance of gristle. I would have complained since our waitress was very nice and attentive but I was on a first date and took her there specifically because the food was supposed to be so good. My experience with her was more important so I grinned and said nothing, but under the circumstances I didnt see much choice. As an aside my last experience at Ruth's Chris was a great steak and a horrible date so between the two I'll take the wonderful date and the bad steak any day of the week. Will I go there again with her? Probably not. Maybe now that I've found a great woman I'll take her for the great steak. Pros: old prohibition era bar, great old place with lots of charm, freindly and FAST service Cons: only been there once but the steak was horrible. more

An entertaining feast 7/1/2006

We went on a Saturday night and were seated right away, directly in front of the stage--without reservations!! The music is downstairs. There was a live jazz trio. The chef must be underpaid because the steak was much better than how much it cost. They have live jazz nightly. Pros: Food, music more

Perfect 10/25/2005

This was our first visit to the Majestic and it is the best steak we have ever had. Anyway. Bar none. The filet was absolutely superb. The veggies were outstanding. The service was great. The jazz was wonderful.. a bit loud but is well worth the cost on the menu. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting the KC area. We did not have reservations on a Saturday night and our wait was less than 1/2 an hour with great ambiance at the bar while we were waiting for our table. Pros: food, ambiance, music more

The Best Steak in KC 6/3/2004

By far the best filet I've ever eaten. In fact, that's how I feel every time I eat there. Yes, it's expensive. Get over it. I guarantee, when you take the first bite, you'll be glad you decided to invest in your evening. I also like Hereford House, but our guests from out of town are taken to the Majestic every time. I can't imagine what happened to the poor guy that got the bad steak and suffered through the poor service, because I've never seen this or even heard of this happening here. I'd be willing to bet, though, that the management would have made it right, if they'd said something. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Service Cons: , Price more

Not worth the price 1/20/2004

Our group of 5 visited on Jan. 16 and no one was impressed, nor will we return. The atmosphere was the best thing. Love the jazz going on downstairs. The server was ok, definitely not what I had in mind, she seemed to busy for the price we are paying. The food was nothing short of a letdown. I love a great steak, unfortunately I did not have one when I was there. I had the 8 oz filet and it was something I could go get from Price Chopper and grill up myself. Will not be going back. Pros: atmosphere, jazz Cons: food, service, overpriced more

A GUY KIND-OF PLACE 7/13/2003

THIS IS MY KIND OF PLACE. IF YOUR WOMAN LIKES TO SMOKE A GOOD CIGAR WITH HER WINE, THIS IS THE PLACE TO BRING HER. THE FOOD AND THE SERVICE, BOTH, ARE GREAT! NO BETTER STEAK IN KC. ONE REGRET, FOR ME, IS THE DOWNTOWN KCMO LOCATION. Pros: FOOD, SERVICE, SMOKING Cons: LOCATION more

Smoke um if ya got um! 10/4/2002

If any other pilots out there are looking for a steak, jazz, cigar, and the best liquor anywhere. This is the spot. Great Food,Great Staff,Great Everything. I was told about this place by some airline driver types, yep they were right on centerline. Get ready for a low approach. ""You kmow your gear is up and locked, if it takes full power to taxi up to the bar. Pros: Great Crowd, Grt Liquor Selection, Easy to Find more

Like wine, jazz, steak and cigars? 8/14/2002

I have lived in the Kansas City area for 10 years, this is the only resturant I have frequented through those 10 years and for good reason! The food, weather it be pasta or aged beef, is excellent! They have the best wine list in the city- as well as any other alcohol, for those of you who do not drink wine. The Jazz is classic 1930-40's jazz, that fits the atmosphere.Even more interesting is the history of the area and the restaurant (mob hide-outs, city corruption) When you drop in head to the 3rd floor (through the front door off Broadway, to the right and up the stairs), where you can enjoy a fine cigar and a great story (not to mention good company and a great drink). If you love the downtown style and class, you will fall in love with The Majestic. Pros: food, service, Music, atmosphere Cons: Expensive more

jazzy music and food... 8/11/2002

If you can afford to splurge for one night, Majestic's live music (mostly snazzy jazz), wonderful (but some expensive) wines, and better than wonderful food (try the steaks!!) will make for the perfect date! However, due to lack of volume controlling capability, expect to speak at a higher volume while the band is playing. Pros: Music, Taste, Wines Cons: Expensive, Parking on Street, Sometimes Loud more

I'm special 8/5/2002

Not only is the food at Majestic delicious, but the customer service is wonderful. I went with a friend one evening and she mentioned to the waiter that we were running late for the symphony. Even though it was a very busy Saturday night, our waiter treated us as though we were his only customers. As the last bite from one course was finished, the dish was whisked away and the next course appeared. We were able to get to the symphony with three minutes to spare. I've been to the Majestic many times day and night and each time, I've been made to feel that I'm special. Pros: service Cons: sometimes smoky more
