ROCKSTAR Fridays are AWESOME! 7/8/2008

We are transplant floridians and we love the food at Stumps, I mean seriously, Fried Chicken and Waffles? IT doesn't get much better than that. I am also an event planner and have attended a birthday party and a corporate party at Stump's that were both amazing. The buffets were always full and the food delicious. It is a shame that ""StPeteEVNTPLNR"" had such a horrible experience. I also find it hard to believe that the management in any restaurant, if notified, didn't try to make the meal right before letting it get to this point. Perhaps someone will negatively critique one of her events before allowing her the opportunity to fix it. \r The new Friday night party at Stump's ROCKS! Live band karaoke, cheap beer, SO much fun! Pros: The atmosphere - comfortable and relaxed. The food - FRIED CHICKEN AND WAFFLES! Eat Dinner and there is no cover! Cons: Getting a table on a Friday night after 9pm... it pays to go early. more

Any Southerner would be ashamed. 4/24/2008

Let me start by saying I am an event planner and I have been a server. I had never been to Stumps until last night, but I am from Texas and a huge home cooking fan. My BF ordered the Brunswick Stew, the grilled tilapia and requested no red peppers (as was specified on the menu). I ordered the steak with green beans and collard greens. The Brunswick stew might as well have been canned tomatoes in a bowl. Our server ran around as if he were busy and we heard the hostess tell someone there was a 20 min. wait, but the place was empty and she could have sat them at one of the tables she pulled together for us for no reason. Our entrees finally came (about a 30 min. wait). The fish was in one word disgusting - no flavor, and they served it with green peppers (good thing he wasn?t allergic). I ordered my steak medium rare, it might as well have come directly from the freezer. It was the toughest piece of meat I have ever had - my jaw literally hurt after a few bites. We didn't even touch our sides, the green beans were canned and cold and my collard greens tasted like nothing more than wet cardboard. Our server was at our table twice the entire night. He noticed we were displeased, but never once asked us how our meals were or if we ever needed anything. Our bill, including a tip (I have been a server, so I know it isn?t entirely his fault) came out to be a ridiculous $42.00 for something I would not have even fed a Yankee. Pros: A fun place at night for drinks/entertainment. Cons: Food was tasteless. more

Southern style tht tries to be sophisticated, but falls short 11/10/2006

Comfort food should be just that - comforting. Stump's tries to make it something it's not and doesn't quite succeed. Most items are overly greasy and poorly executed versions of your southern favorites. more

Unique! 5/19/2006

We really enjoyed the ribs. We wanted to try the doughnut dessert but could not eat more! The decor is very interesting! A band was about to set up and we just missed paying a cover, so get there before that starts. It was a bit loud, but what a neat place! Pros: food, service, decor Cons: dark, loud more

Great Meal at a Great Price 9/8/2004

We found the barbeque ribs to be absolutely outstanding as well as the pulled pork!! The fried chicken was alright but given the choice between that and the ribs - there is no question - ribs it is! Haven't found them better anywhere else. The atmosphere is great as well - especially with the live music. A group of four of us went and got to sit in one of the booths on the top level - very private - great for conversations with friends. It was a truly enjoyable experience for us. We are planning to eat there again in the very near future - we just hope that the barbeque can live up to our first meal there! They definitely set the bar very high for themselves! Pros: Barbeque Ribs & Pork, Atmosphere, Rel. Inexpensive more

True Southern Food - NOT! 6/24/2002

Southern Food - NOT! Ordered Brunswick Stew - got vegetable soup! Southern Cornbread is light, fluffy, not sweet and not gritty! And....Southern mashed potatoes do not have lumps! I have been some afraid to try the collards and blackeyed peas! Not Southern Food at all! Serve last three times was slow, wait staff not personable. Pros: great entertainment, ample seating Cons: Southern Food -NOT, too crowded at night more
