We just another fundraiser for my childs school. This time is had a 1980s theme. We always have luck with finding gear at Squaresville. They always offer all parents a discount for our events too. This year I did a heavy metal look and the wife was a rocker chick.Squaresville helped us put together two awesome outfits.I always recommend this place when friends are going to a retro themed party. The selection, service and prices are great. more

I just found Squaresville, again.I guess the store just recently moved to new digs in Palma Ceia. That new place might be cooler than the old one.Memories of my youth in the 60s and 70s.They always have great t-shirts and I may have to start adding in some funky retro furniture in my condo.Check this place out for a flashback.recommend! more

I could totally live wearing all of Squaresville's vintage dresses and blouses. To top it all off, he has a really great new t-shirt selection. 1/2 the furniture in my house comes from there. Obviously, I'm a long-time shopper and will continue to be one in the future! Thanks for having such a cool shop in Tampa!!! more

I didn't know what I was searching when I walked in to Squaresville.I have always liked the 50's and 60's .This store has a nice selection of clean mid-century decor. The gentlemen working with us was nice. They let us browse freely.Even though it was busy on that Saturday when we were ready to check-out they were easy to work with & friendly.( I read other reviews on other sites and it sounds like some people need to lighten up.) .I recommend. more

Stopped in the shop for the first time while in town. Wow! Great selection-- what a fun store! Great location. Love the refrigerator magnets... and the Bert Reynolds stuff. The owner was quite helpful, nice, even quite funny! Will definitely go back next time I'm in the area. more

Bad attitude 2/16/2011

I've been to this store twice recently to purchase costumes for a party. Each time the owner makes you feel like he doesn't want you in his store. There are a few interesting items if you don't mind being followed around the small store. A lot of the clothing he has you can purchase online or at Party City for a lot less. Very few of the items are truly vintage. more

Bad Trip 1/3/2011

So much potential because of the store's location in SOHO. Unfortunately, it's a small store crowded with overpriced junk and new t-shirts. Almost no parking. Some of the furniture is interesting but don't ask the owner questions about anything. I really don't get the attitude. Anyway, I'm supposed to say something nice now. There is a cupcake store in the next building over! more

Owner has a bad attitude 12/20/2010

Walked in and looked around. Not great store, not a horrible store. Saw an item I wanted to purchase. Asked the owner about a specific vintage tee and the answer was an abrupt, ""No."" Ok, fine...must be one of those days....we all have them. Then, caught the owner talking trash to the only other customer in the room stating, ""I'm always in a bad mood (she must have asked) when people ask for things I dont have."" Listed other reasons why he was in a ""bad mood"" relating to his customers. I dropped what I had, said a few choice words and left. Pathetic testimonial to small business success. Dont bother going there - Go to a shop that has more to offer - minus the attitude. more

SOOO RETRO ! 9/11/2010

Take A Trip Back In Time !! ..I enjoy furnishing my home in the mid-century look, the 60s & 70s are my favorite. This store may not be the biggest ,but the prices more than made up for it. I purchased a bunch of cool pieces that at any other retro store would of been 3x as much.I just enjoy going in there and looking at all the COOL STUFF. The owner really decorates it well. I travel all around Florida to retro / vintage stores. I know when I stop into SQUARESVILLE I will leave with something killer and a smile on my face! more

Terrible Owners 5/5/2010

Are they seriously trying to say that they are a vintage/retro store? This place is nothing more than a glorified Plato's Closet, and 10x smaller. Cons: The owners, bad overall selection, tiny place more

Too bad the management is so rude 1/29/2010

Wish I would've read the reviews before wasting my time! I'm sorry if immature people have come into your store in the past but, chasing away customers that want to spend money isn't exactly good business strategy. I have macular degeneration and honestly didn't see the ""no drinks"" sign. You would've thought I tried to steal the way they reacted. Didn't realize a closed water bottle would be a problem on a hot day. They followed us around the store like we were going to hurt their stuff.... made us all very uncomfortable and we left. I will NEVER go back. Try ARTpool in St. Pete... they are super nice and the selection is better. There is another Vintage Shop on Henderson that has some unique stuff too called Green Spring I think? There are way better places to go with far better service. Don't waste your time with these people. Pros: Interesting Selection Cons: The rudest people I've ever met in a shop like this more

just adding a comment 1/6/2010

Hey it's not just the teens who are treated rudely. I've shopped there three or four times and each time was treated so poorly. I thought he was just pegging me as a ""South Tampa Snob"" (I wouldn't be surprised if the owner wrote the first description above) In fact I'm a professional artist who used to give - and take- art classes in that actual building in the 70's. I decided never to step foot in there the last time I was there, a year ago, as he answered my questions in his affectedly bored and condescending voice. He's a creepy rude jerk who needs to be in a different business. Pros: cool stuff, good selection, funky atmosphere Cons: Cons outweigh. It's all about the attitude and it's BAD! more

Cool shop, horribly rude owner/manager 10/27/2009

I came across the other reviews and was not surprised to see that many others have commented on the owner's attitude. It's quite unusual to rub so many customers the wrong way, but this guy has done it extremely succesfully. The first time I went in with two family members, he said ""Are you planning to buy something? This isn't a museum."" ...Wow... well, we were considering buying something AND certainly planned to come back in the future b/c the place sells some great stuff; however, after that comment we all decided to never shop there again. As I told a friend of mine about this unusual store experience, he said, ""Oh yeah, I had a similar experience in that store TWICE before."" Well, after 2-3 years, I stopped in again recently thinking I'd give it another chance. I didn't see the guy in there at first and the woman running the register was very nice. However, as the woman was helping me, the guy (who was the same one I described above) made a rude comment toward me... I was looking for boots to wear for Halloween and I said I was hoping to find ones with a platform and higher heel. He said, ""Oh, so you want to look like a hoochie?"" I didn't really know how respond... Strange and completely inappropriate thing to say to a customer. This guy really needs to completely STOP interacting with costumers, and instead needs to make a good business move and stick to inventory or something where he can stay to himself at all times. If so many customers have had a bad experience in this store b/c of the attitude and negative air in that place, and if he wants to have repeat business, he should really consider seeking professional psychological attention. It might be a good business move for an otherwise cool store that I think has the potential to do well. Pros: Cool vintage 70s clothes, furniture, & items; Good costumes Cons: Owner has an unusually bad attitude, treats customers poorly more

Interesting store run by unimaginably rude people. 7/14/2009

I can sympathize with people that probably deal with annoying teenagers frequently but they should not treat all individuals under the age of 30 as if they are awful. I personally feel a duty to give good mom and pop stores some business especially during this time with the economy being so poor. This store does not care, apparently, that the customers are an important part of the business process, they just treat them as dirt. I'm a courteous person and yet I found the lady breathing down my back saying ""don't take more that two sunglasses of the stand at one time"" (which I wasn't), I was taking pictures of cool items to show my friend and heard ""Are you taking pictures of items that you want to purchase?! You should ask to take pictures."" (after I said sorry and asked for permission she didn't answer and huffed away), then my phone rang and I was talking about how nice the store was and heard, ""We have rules! No talking on cell phones!"" Later I saw her on her phone texting and asked her about the double standard and she replied ""It's rude to talk on the phone and the customers and I don't care about what you were saying and it really shows your age."" I found that reply especially ironic seeing as to how I can't imagine you being more rude than that lady, she should like what I was saying because it was good things about her store, and if she's implying my age is automatically inferior than by her logic every ugly hag is a totally idiotic B (you can fill in the other letters for lack of a more appropriate term for her. I put away the item that I was going to buy and quietly went to my car I will never give service to such mean people and I beg you to do the same. Pros: They have unique vitage furniture that's hard to come by. Cons: The prudes that run the shop make it unbearable to shop. more

Editorial
  • The Goods
Guayaveras, Playboy shirts, wall clocks featuring Bettie Page in full dominatrix splendor, kidney-bean-shaped coffee tables, square-rimmed sunglasses. This Howard Avenue furniture-clothing store puts the R-E-T-R-O in a neighborhood where every other person looks like he/she stepped out of a Gap catalog (yawn). Let's give props to the funkafied. Let's wear gasoline shirts embroidered with the name Bill.

    The Scene
Spend hours getting lost amid the racks and shelves filled with vintage goodies of all sorts. Good luck walking home without shelling out a least a little cash, whether it's for an art deco-inspired lamp or a shirt that could've come straight off of Elvis' back. Expect to see a typically South Tampa crowd in here: Hyde Park snobs, scenesters, rave kids, hipsters and anyone with an appreciation for decades a-go-go.
