Shephard Bruce MD

I went to Dr. Shephard during my first pregnancy, and I will not be returning for my second. I waited over an hour every visit only to be examined for 5 minutes. I was never asked how I was feeling, and he didn't really seem to care about me. He showed no concern about the fact that I had had 2 previous miscarriages. He would do things like strip my membranes or break my water without telling me! While in labor I saw him twice. Once when he broke my water and then when he was delivering the baby. He scheduled me to be induced BEFORE my due date. WHO DOES THAT?! I think he did it just b/c I was due around New Year's and he didn't want to be bothered on a holiday. The staff acted like I was stupid sometimes. I felt like my visits were SO impersonal. I was totally not in control of my birth experience. He wasn't the worst doctor in the world, and I had faith that if anything went wrong, he'd do a good job with my baby. But I didn't feel like they cared much about me. this doctor is strictly business. i had some bleeding in mid pregnancy and went to the hospital, was checked and told me to make an appointment with him asap.. i did so, and during my visit he hadn't made any notes or had any recollection of my emergency. When i was farther along, he would check to see if i was dilated and i had to ASK HIM if i was and if so how far. During my labor he came in and broke my labor without informing me of what he was doing, he YELLED at me for wanting to have a natural birth, and didn't say a word to me during or after the delivery. more

I have had two experiences with Dr Shephard when he was acting as the on call doctor for my regular OBGYN. The first was the day after Christmas when I had a lot of bleeding early in pregnancy. He minimized the concern and advised me to go to the hospital if I was concerned, but there was no need to call back. This was after he knew my history of miscarriage. The second time he visited me the day after the birth of my son. He verified my name and that I had had a baby the day before then got up to leave the room. He did examine my C-section scar after my husband asked why he was leaving with no discussion regarding my health. I have never been to a regular appointment with this doctor and do not plan to based on my experiences above. more
