Come all! 10/23/2005

Schenley's park and reserve is a beautiful place to spend a warm day. It was rennovated a few years ago and is still constantly being upkept by park rangers and by volunteers. Volunteering in the park is a perfect way to spend any weekend (especially with a group or friends). You will get hands on interactions with nature and you get to choose how much work you'd like to put in. The water pond is really pretty, especially when the fountain is on and is a great place to picnic. more

A much needed escape destination in a busy part of town 10/8/2005

Schenley Park is unique because it sits in the heart of very busy Oakland. There are trails to run, walk, or take just far enough into the park to drown out the noise of the city for a few minutes. The visitors center is completely renovated as of about 2003 and it compliments the park nicely. It is a small little building just across the way from CMU and Phipps. There's a little coffee shop inside with some very friendly staff. The walls have some of the history of the area on them, and there are tables both inside out that welcome groups of friends meeting up or individuals if you want to read or study. It is really a unique hang out place that is convenient to the university and medical crowd that frequents Oakland. more

Perfect Park for Relaxation 9/13/2005

This park is the perfect place for picnics, relaxation, and reflecting. The trails and pond offer a serene, peaceful setting and it really is a nice escape from the city. Most species in the park are native to Pittsburgh, so it is also an educational experience. Make sure to stop by at least once if you are a local! more

Huge park, great times 8/16/2005

I really enjoy Schenley Park. There are several well-built trails running throughout the park. They were created by the WPA back in 1939. The pond down below the bridge is not exactly something I would swim in, but I have seen people fish from it. The ice rink and ball fields at the Schenley oval are not fancy, but very accessible. In the winter many of the trails are cleared of snow, though it does get very icy. The Schenley Park Visitor's Center - another WPA project - also offers free wireless internet, tasty baked goods, and coffee. There is outdoor seating around back. more

I love this park 8/16/2005

This park is beautiful and just the perfect size to explore. I love jogging on the various trails, since there always are other joggers and its relatively safe during the day time. I wouldn't, of course, wander around at night! This park houses the Schenley Ice Rink, a community pool, a playground, and also Phipps Conservatory, which is always worth a visit. Flagstaff Hill, which is right behind Carnegie Mellon University, is a great place to lie out and get some sun. During the summer, free movies are shown there after nightfall. more

Schenley Park Visitor's Center--Nice! 8/11/2005

The Schenley Park Visitors center was renovated a few years ago and is now really nice. They have live music some weekends. There is free internet access plus there are drinks and snacks. It's a great place to relax. The landscaping is beautiful. It overlooks Schenley park and has lots of beautiful flowers. It's located right next to Phipps. Stop by & enjoy! :-) more
