I recently had the distinct pleasure of having my hair done by someone who doesn't do "Pittsburgh Hair." You see, I moved here from Washington D.C. and was shopping in Shadyside when I met an English woman who recommended the salon and more importantly, Robbert. Getting an appointment with him was more than difficult though. When I called for my appointment, the receptionist repeatedly told me he was booked and that she could put me with another stylist who she said is a color professional. I explained to her that I wanted a cut- Not a dye job. After some dispute, she found he had an opening the next day. When I arrived at the salon, I was greeted by Skylar, who made me feel very welcomed. She hung up my coat and got me a robe. While waiting for Robert, the owner of the salon welcomed me as well. Then the manager introduced himself. It was like a full-on welcoming committee. When Robert came out to meet me, he was all smiles and I instantly felt a connection. We walked back to his chair and he began to talk to me as if I were an old friend. I was immediately at ease and knew I could trust him. We talked about my concerns, needs, facial shape and what I was looking for. We went back to get me shampooed and- WOW! This guy knows how to give a great shampoo!!! We went back to his chair and began the cut. I was amazed at his movement and grace. This guy wielded his scissors like a painter with a brush. When he styled the cut he explained it every step of the way. It was simple and he even told me some tricks of the trade. The next day, I was able to recreate my style almost exactly like he did. Robert is a ray of sunshine in this gloomy city. I HIGHLY recommend this guy and ladies, he is really cute too!

I love this store. It is located on route 51 just south of the liberty tunnels. Getting off route 51 into their parking lot is a little tricky. They have very limited parking and it seems to be all filled whenever I get there always. The is big and is always stocked full. They get a lot of their stuff from the Vets that have trucks that go around all the Pittsburgh neighborhoods and pick up people's discards for free. They have clothes, toys, furniture, glassware and everything else in between, Almost everything is used. They carry books, tapes, cd's and shoes. You can find anything there.

Color me mine is an wonderful place for hanging out especially with events such as birthday parties. You choose pottery and then design it from there. You do not need to be an artist as long as you have a good time painting! It is definitely worth trying out at least once!

Rating: I ordered a cake for 120, 90 showed and we still didn't have enough cake. When we went to cut our cake, we got through icing then couldn't get the knife further. It was stuck on a piece of plastic that was on the whole top of each tier under the icing. When the hotel went to cut the cake, same problem. They had to lift a plastic support sheet off of the cake, which pulled off all of the icing and pulled apart most of the cake. The bakery claimed this is industry standard, but both the hotel and 2 other bakeries said that the support usually goes just under the tier, not over the top of it. Paddy-cake blamed the hotel stating that they pulled it off too fast. But, even if they pulled it off slow like they claim, it still would have pulled off all of the icing. I told the hotel that Paddy-cake blamed them and they called Paddy-cake themselves. Paddy-cake denied ever saying it. Paddy-cake refused to give me any sort of refund "since you were able to use some of the cake". We should have had 30 extra pieces and instead some of the guests (including the bride) didn't get any! Those who had some said that it tasted good, but what does that matter when not all the guests get some. Furthermore, the driver didn't leave a box for the top layer. I was told "he must have forgotten". The hotel had to empty fudge out of a box that it came in and put my top layer in that. What a disaster. I'll never go there again and I recommend that no one else let them ruin their cake either!

I purchased my wedding gown from here and was pretty much pleased with the service. I ended up going elsewhere for bridesmaid's dresses for lower prices, but they have a very good selection of bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses. They have a nice selection of jewelry too, and I purchased a crystal necklace from there. They also have many dresses on sale.

This is by far the best bakery in the heart of Pittsburgh. My friends and I would walk over to Prantl's every week when we were at Pitt. You HAVE to try the almond torte and the lady locks, but everything I have tried there is delicious! This family owned bakery has reasonable prices and lots of variety to choose from - cookies, candy, bread, cakes and pastries. I recommend you do not visit here if you are on a diet because you will give in to the temptation! The only negative I have regarding Prantl's is that parking can be a problem on Walnut Street.

I received a gorgeous flower arrangement from Hepatica upon moving to a new home. The selection of unique flowers and lovely design was like none I had ever seen, and it was breathtaking. Like a painting you love, the flowers were something you wanted to look at and enjoy again and again. Moreover, the flowers lasted on and on, allowing us to really enjoy the arrangement for longer than usual. Like most other people, I am extremely busy and do not have any time to rate products and services. In this single case, however, Hepatica stands out as a one-in-a-million business with that "something special" that we all look for but almost never find. I have absolutely no doubt that whoever receives one of their unique and beautiful arrangements will feel very special.

This is the premier Italian grocery story in the strip in Pittsburgh. The vast selection of cheese, meats and Italian foods makes it the place to be when purchasing authentic Italian foods. I usually go and pick up some spicy green olives and fontinella cheese. The barrells of olive oil that they have in the store are a feast for the eyes and the mouth. A word of advice: If you are planning to visit during the holiday season, expect long lines and lots of festive people! This Italian store is THAT good!
