Best

The apple strudel is fantastic, and the best thing here are the potato balls. They have another location in Burbank. Very good prices.

Worst

Pastries and cakes good. Tres leches excellent. Lines are insane....and the architect should be forced into the Arena of the Gods against Spartacus, Forced to line up three dif...

You've got try their cake! 8/8/2002

My grandmother had a birthday party and her daughter ordered the cake. The presentation was awesome. The decorations alone, was yummy. The cake tased so good with mango. This was the second time she ordered from here. It's worth the drive. more

Favorite Cuban bakery! 7/5/2002

This place is great! Try the Cuban sandwiches. They only cost a few bucks. What a deal! Also, be sure to try the papas rellenas and galletas. My dad is from Cuba and can't stop eating them! Pros: fresh, tasty, affordable Cons: always busy more

Bakery plus 6/12/2002

While everyone's fighting in line for a pastry, waiting for their number to be called, stop in the express line and order a Cuban sandwich, a Media Noche, or some croquetas. Why not have a shot of Cuban coffee? As far as the desserts go...they're definitely worth the wait. Pros: Great Desserts, Great Sandwiches, Very affordable Cons: Long Lines, Crowds more

Bigger Version of Au Bon Pain 5/22/2002

Porto's reminds me of Au Bon Pain - but it has a much greater selection of food and pastries. Sandwiches are served on croissants, bagettes or other homemade breads. They are VERY inexpensive too - some for $4. The pastries and cakes are wonderful and again, very reasonable. I've purchased the sponge cake with fruit and cream filling for a birthday party and it was delicious!!! Pros: inexpensive, wonderful desserts more

Yum Yum 5/22/2002

This place makes the most amazing Fruit Tarts for dessert. They are cheap too. Something like $35.00 for a full size tart. Yummy. We get them for our office parties and everyone's happy. I recommend ordering ahead of time. Make sure you also leave plenty of time to spare when you go to pick it up. They are always busy. more

Sweet Chaos 5/20/2002

Yes, the bakery is always in a state of blissful chaos. This is primarily due to the sweet confections that waft a sugary, alluring scent out of the door, drawing an even bigger crowd. Take a number, grab a pork sandwich, a few potato balls from the express line and sit back with a cup of deliciously strong coffee until your number is called at the bakery counter. The sweet cream cheese guava strudel is the undisputed pastry champion. The fruit tarts and cheesecake come in a close second. Just wait--braving the crowd is worth it. Pros: Delicious Pastries, Great selection, Inexpensive Cons: Always Crowded more

Potato Balls! 5/20/2002

I'm not a Cuban cuisine conniseur, but the potato balls (and potato ball sandwich) at this popular Brand Blvd. bakery are heavenly. The cakes look amazing and the pastries are also divine. Yes, the crowds can be a bit much (especially on the weekends), but what do you expect from one of the best bakeries in SoCal? Anyway, take a number or jump in the express line and you're out the door in 15 minutes. Pros: Great food Cons: crowded more
