Best

The apple strudel is fantastic, and the best thing here are the potato balls. They have another location in Burbank. Very good prices.

Worst

Pastries and cakes good. Tres leches excellent. Lines are insane....and the architect should be forced into the Arena of the Gods against Spartacus, Forced to line up three dif...

Delicious and Fun 11/2/2006

This place is awesome. What a gem. The variety of cakes will make your head spin. Prices are reasonable, too. I ordered a 9" cuban cake with pineapple custard (enough for 12 people) for a mere $16. It was delectable. Everyone raved about it. This place is no secret though, so expect long lines at lunchtime and on the weekends. more

Heaven Sent 10/28/2006

Porto's draws every pedestrian into their cafe/bakery, empyting out all their competitors on Brand Street in Glendale. The menu is DELICOUS and cheap. Here, you can have a nice lunch with pastries, sandwich and tea for under $8, actually even less! My favorites are the Potatoeballs $0.81, the Mango Mousse $2.50, the brownies, the Triple Chocolate Mousse, the list goes on and on... the freshly pressed orange juice is refreshing. There is always a hustle and bustle in here, so be prepared to wait in line, and find a table, on the other hand it also gives a nice sense of community. Pros: Cuban Food and Music, PRICES!, Pastries! Cons: Service so overwhelmed by demand that they sometimes tune out and forget your order more

This place has tons of people so be prepared to wait and wait some more. There are seveal lines to wait in, depending on what you are there for. There's a bakery line, a cake line, a beverage line, and a food line. Everything on the menu is very cheap and delicious. My favorite desert is the napoleon...def must have!!! Also, a great gift giving should include their meat pies!!! Enjoy!!! Pros: Bakery Cons: Long Lines more

Stay away from the EXPRESS LINE! 10/9/2006

Porto's used to be the best. Ever since they expanded, things have been getting worse. The Cubano's have shrunk (used to be piled HIGH with meat), the lines are longer than ever instead of shorter, and worst of all the Express Line is run by people of below average IQ. It seems to be a disease only affecting the Express Line, because you can still give the old people a long complicated order and they WILL NOT screw it up. But these new people don't know how to manage numbers, and they don't know their own items. They have consistently screwed up our orders ever since we've been using that line. Pros: Delicious food. Affordable for the quality. Cons: The Express Line WILL screw up your order. New people have bad attitudes. more

But these new people don't know how to manage numbers, and they don't know their own items. They have consistently screwed up our orders ever since we've been using that line. On top of this, the new people behind the counter are so rude and apathetic that you think you're at McDonalds! I drive all the way out from Calabasas to go to Porto's and I don't like being treated with a shrug and some comments in Spanish when they short my order and then sell out of what I wanted when I return 5 minutes later. It doesn't take much to to make me go from unhappy customer to happy customer. An apology, and simple explanation, a sincere attitude, maybe a free cookie or something. You know, standard customer service stuff. It's a very, very sad thing, and I hope it's not the beginning of the end for Porto's. Pros: Delicious food. Affordable for the quality. Cons: The Express Line WILL screw up your order. New people have bad attitudes. more

Simply Great! 10/7/2006

Whether you visit the Glendale or newer Burbank location, the line of people out the door cements Porto's status of one of the best bakeries (and much more) in the LA area. Everything is as good as it looks. From the simple sandwiches to the elaborate cakes, you are sure to find many favorites. I find a new favorite every time I try something different. Individual sized cakes make it easy to indulge without being completely gluttonous. The lines may be long but move very quickly. There are at least a dozen efficient, friendly people working behind the counter no matter what day or time I visit. Pros: Sandwiches, Cakes, Tarts Cons: Calories more

Where Cubans go to eat Cuban food 5/6/2006

I'm Cuban, from Miami and was rasied on what Porto's has on their menu... and its amazing. For me it feels like a little taste of home across the country. Its some of the best pastries and Cuban sandwiches I've ever had - here or even in Miami. The best part about it is how affordable everything is! Don't let the usual massive lines scare you off.. they move pretty quick and its well worth the wait. Their desserts and other sweets from the bakery are all amazing. You can always impress dinner guests with LA's best Flan! Pros: authentic cuban food, low price more

Love this place!!!! 3/8/2006

I visited the Porto's that opened in Burbank, and it is my new favorite place. The others are right, the potato balls and mango mousse are a must try. I had the roasted pork sandwich and it was amazing. The pork was so tender it melted in my mouth. The value is also incredible. I spent around $10 and I had a potato ball, sandwich, drink and a mango mousse! My only complaint is about the service. It is an extremely busy and noisy atmosphere and the employees don't exactly take their time with you. I felt very rushed and some of the employees were rude and unhelpful. Doesn't matter...I'd go back regardless! I'm already plotting my next meal there. The next time I have a menu so I can make my choices before I go...so I don't feel so rushed. Also, for anyone interested, there is a website www.portosbakery.com Pros: value, food, choices Cons: service, atmosphere more

Porto's is the best! 2/18/2006

Everything we've tried has been so tasty-the meat pies, potato balls, dulce de leches (blended), brownies, guava/cheese strudel. Their cakes are beautiful & their sandwiches are great. We've been going there for 2 years & they've always let us use our debit, mastercard, or visa cards. Their Burbank location just opened (Magnolia & Hollywood Way). The parking was easier there (& is free). The lines can be a little annoying at first, but it takes 5-20 minutes max & worth it. If you want any pastries, get in that line first (take a #in Glendale) & order everything w/that employee, stop by to pick up your drink/sandwiches from different stations w/the #on your receipt. For party platters, Glendale usually has them available the same day, but Burbank told me I should have called it in 2 days ago. All employees that I've dealt with were very friendly & professional. Pros: Delicious foods, Great prices Cons: Huge crowds, Parking can be hard more
