Horrible Experience-Needs new STAFF!!! 2/28/2008

Everybody loves Portos and so do I, but in the past year I had three bad experiences. Most recent experience: I ordered a cake and cupcakes for my 25th bday party. When I first placed the order the employee was not nice and not helpful at all. I explained to her in detail as to how I wanted the order done, and still she didnt understand a word i said. I went back just to confirm the order just to be safe, ad sure enough the order was all wrong. I asked for a manager to take my order to avoid any problems or confusions. Now please know that my order was NO COMPLICATED AT ALL!!!! It was a simple plain white 9"" cake with white dots and 3 dozens of chocolate cupcakes with white smooth frosting and coconut flakes. On the day of the event, my sister picked up my order and WHY WAS THE ORDER WRONG??!!! The order that THE MANAGER ORDERED for me was a cake with RED DOTS and the cupcakes were WHITE BREAD WITH PINK AND YELLOW FROSTING WITH COCONUT FLAKES! They handed this order to my sister, thinking it would be ok! Now you get my horrible experience? I had to get on the phone w/the manager for 30min to try to get this order fixed. Their excuse was ""we dont have chocolate mix anymore""! How can a Bakery run out of chocolate mix? How stupid and ignorant do they think I am! What gives them the RIGHT to change my order and think that its ok? Now like i said this is 1 out 3 experiences that I had and all they do is fix it (4hrs) & say ""sorry"". I was so dissapointed and still am! Unfortunatly, Portos is advertised and ranked on The Knot magazine, its a shame how the really mess up on some oders and still get that title. They're food is great but their service is really starting to go down hill and they really need to change their staff ASAP! Cons: Bad Service; Horrible Staff; more

BEST PASTRIES AND BREAD IN TOWN!!! 2/1/2008

These are some of the best pastries available, no matter what! The prices are very good, and they have a great variety; sandwiches, breakfast, cakes, pastries, meat pies and potato ball s, and good coffee, as well. Also good is the guava-mango smoothie. Just avoid going during lunch hours and early mornings on the weekend, it is HECTIC!!! more

My favorite bakery! 12/12/2007

I've been a fan of Porto's for many years now. I love everything that I've ordered from there. The pastries, the breads, sandwiches, cakes, EVERYTHING. However, I am a little disappointed that recently they've changed their fruit tart cakes. Before it used to be filled with only custard. Now they've added a layer of cake and then only a thin layer of custard on top. I can understand that maybe some people thought that there was too much custard before, but for me it was just perfect the way it was before. But everything else is still awesome as usual! I'm just sad that my favorite item is not good for me anymore. Pros: EVERYTHING is delicious and good for your bucks! Cons: bring the old style fruit tart cakes back please!!!! more

A Local MUST 11/21/2007

If you live in the Glendale area and enjoy wonderful pastries/cakes/desserts...Porto's is a must-visit-bakery. Even with all the great Armenian bakeries in Glendale, Porto's is still one of my favorites. You'd think that the crowds here would be less since they opened the larger location in Burbank...not a chance! You still have to wait your turn in the line that simulates a queue at Disneyland. They did my mother's 60th birthday cake and it was a wonderfully light lemon cake with whipped cream frosting. I highly recommend Porto's. Stop in and give it a try. Oh...and if you can't find parking on the street, try around back. more

Portos Bakery (stingy Bakery) 11/20/2007

My first expierence was ok a very long wait for a very small sandwich they could at least give you a sandwich to get full on it sems like a appetizer, pastries a little dry but just a average place not the best bakery around . Try Kaylas Bakery/Cafe on victory and Tampa now that is a great resturant. The portions are huge plenty of food mmm good try it i guarantee you'll love. Pros: Pretty resturant Cons: small portions, long wait more

Bakery can't be beat! 8/9/2007

It's a good thing I don't live too close to this place. Their bakery is outstanding. The perpetual crowds at this place should tell you something. Have to recommend: potato ball, meat pies, guava cheese pies, sandwiches, fruit tart, and pretty much any cake they have there. And everything is very reasonably prices (i.e. cheap!). Great place for birthday cakes. They have an excellent staff of decorators who make amazing cakes! Pros: Pretty much everything on the menu, parking lot in back Cons: Crowded, lines more

Definitely worth the long lines 6/27/2007

A bakery, cafe, and deli all in one. This Cuban eatery not only serves traditional Cuban foods, like rellinitos and media noche sandwiches, but also carries iced coffee and creme brulee. I have yet to try anything new because I can't get enough of the guava pastries and the traditional Cuban sandwich, the ""media noche,"" filled with ham, melted swiss, and tangy mustard, and fried banana chips on the side, which perfectly complement the dish. However, because of its great-tasting food, the lines are always endless, but don't get put off, the pastries alone are worth the wait. I also hear that Andy Garcia frequents this place :) . Pros: huge variety Cons: long lines more

Good bakery 6/22/2007

Good bakery but very high prices - cakes start at $75 and up - but very good. Long lines - ALWAYS. Sandwiches are pretty small and nothing special but good for something different. Pros: Very good tasting and looking cakes Cons: very expensive more
