The apple strudel is fantastic, and the best thing here are the potato balls. They have another location in Burbank. Very good prices.

Pastries and cakes good. Tres leches excellent. Lines are insane....and the architect should be forced into the Arena of the Gods against Spartacus, Forced to line up three dif...

For Cuban Snacks or Bakery Items, it's the best! 3/13/2005

The prices are very reasonable and the treats are tasty. Everything is fresh and delicious. The Cuban sandwiches are authentic as are their croquettas and pastelitos (cheese pastries). I've also purchased their cakes on several occasions. They are fantastic and well priced. No wonder the place is always packed!! more

The prices are very reasonable and the treats are tasty. Everything is fresh and delicious. The Cuban sandwiches are authentic as are their croquettas and pastelitos (cheese pastries). Fantastic mango cheesecake 1/23/2005

The mango cheesecake has some type of whipped mango with a gel-like mango glaze topped with fresh berries. It is just the best cheesecake ever! Also recommend taking home a loaf of fresh bread any time you go. I ordered a loaf of bread, several inside out mini pies, individual-size mango cheesecake and ind. size chocolate truffle cake, a few cookies, a fantastic custard flaky thing...and it only came out to about $8! Prices are very cheap, and they definitely do not compromise quality! One caveat: long lines - I waited aobut 45 min. after taking a number on a Saturday afternoon. Pros: cheap prices, custard baked goods, mango cheesecake Cons: , limited parking more

What a tremendous bargain for exceptional quality. It's very noisy, chaotic and busy, but the pastries and sandwiches were worth the experience. From the person sweeping the floor to the counter person to the cashier, everyone was friendly and gracious and the lines moved quickly. Definitely try the tiramisu and midnight sandwich but nothing will disappoint. Pros: friendly service, variety, low prices Cons: , busy more

What a tremendous bargain for exceptional quality. It's very noisy, chaotic and busy, but the pastries and sandwiches were worth the experience. From the person sweeping the floor to the counter person to the cashier, everyone was friendly and gracious and the lines moved quickly. I find the quality and taste as good as Sweet Lady Jane, Euro Pane, and some of the other trendy and pretentious bakerys in the greater LA are...but the prices at Portos are half or less. There is decent parking in the back lot, but lines are long. Fortunately, they move quickly. The sandwiches are great too and a good value. Pros: quality, taste, cost more

I love this bakery, for the first time/ intimidated some tips: If you want: 1. Multiple pastries to go. Take a number as soon as possible and watch the screen, the numbers count down _fast_ the wait will give you time to finalize your order/questions 2. A Sandwich, drink, or a few pastries, turn left and order from the lunch counter. They have awesome sandwiches, and an edited selection of the best pastries. 3. A small tart or cake and are not set on a particular offering, there is a cake line on the right. Just pick from the cakes/tarts displayed. They will personalize if you request. 4. A large cake order or a specific cake or design in mind, go upstairs (separate door) and order in advance. Pick up the cake on the left opposite the lunch counter. Hope this helps! The pastries are the best! They have a cream cheese and guava pastry that I haven't had anywhere else and is a must have. Tarts, chocolates, everything! My only problem is that by the time I get off of work, they're closed! I need to get out of work earlier! more

Great Cuban sandwiches, tamales, meat pies, potato balls and other goodies. Beautiful cakes and vast selection of baked goods and partries and prices so low they are almost beyond belief. The same fruit tart that they charge about $30 for would be $150 at Sweet Lady Jane on Melrose Ave or at a fancy bakery in Brentwood, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills Pros: Prices, Quality, Selection Cons: parking, crowded more
