Phipps Conservatory 4/11/2006

I recently went to Phipps to view their spring flower show. This is a must see especially for plant lovers. When I walked into the all glass conservatory the pleasant scent of Hyacinth was very strong. Not only were there spring flowers highlighted but also themed rooms such as sunken garden, oriental and cactus. There were young and old alike all visiting this wonderful place. There is also a gift shop and a cafe. There were even some bulbs for sale at a great price that were almost finished blooming for the season. more

Beautiful Flowers All Year Round 2/26/2006

Phipps Conservatory is once of the biggest flower facilities in western Pa. Open year round, it offers some of the most varied species of plants, flowers, tees, and bushes available. You walk through a maze of inter winding pathways that lead you over and under bridges, and through lush tropic like settings viewing amazing plants and flowers. They just completed a multi million dollar renovation that now includes a very nice café and lunch area, as well as an expanded gift shop. There is a nominal entrance fee. They change layouts in the various rooms throughout the year, so things are never quite the same each time you visit. A good place to spend a quiet Sunday afternoon, winter or summer. more

Simply Plantacular! 2/4/2006

Phipps Conservatory will lower your stress level the moment you step inside. The newly renovated botanical gardens are simply beautiful. Individual rooms are themed using indigenous plants, water features, and climate control to simulate deserts, rain forests, and swamps. The plants are all well-marked, and even if you aren't a plant and flower lover, you'll like it here and learn a lot. Admission is quite reasonable, and students get a discount/free admission by showing their ID. I recommend visiting during the winter, when their candlelight tours take place. Hundreds of candle-filled lanterns fill the walkways, and local musicians perform during evening hours. more

Perfect 11/15/2005

Phipps is amazing. From the time you walk in till the time you leave you should be amazed by the variety and beauty of the collections. The butterfly room is usually a favorite (when it is in season), and their changing exhibits are always amazing. It's worth going back to Phipps several times a year because of the new rooms which open with the seasons. Great place to take visiting relatives or friends. Cost is about $5 if you don't have a student ID. more

Phipps- you won't be disappointed 10/2/2005

If you are trying to find something to do that is fun for the entire family, Phipps Conservatory is for you. You will find each visit enjoyable. Exibits change frequently and there are special holiday exibits and events that children are sure to enjoy. Everyone in my family loves Phipps, my husband (surprising considering he is interested in sports and no so interested in horticulture), myself, my 9 month old daughter and my mother and father. The family membership is worthwhile even if you are only planning on visiting the museum a few times. more

Georgeous Diplays of Flowers and Foilage 9/11/2005

This is a great (and inexpensive) way to spend an afternoon. Parking is free and admission is very reasonable. I'm not a big gardener or outdoor person, but I really love walking through the conservatory. The displays of flowers, trees, and foliage are amazing. It's nice at the holidays, too, because they feature seasonal plants. I remember at Christmas they had a beautiful pointsetta display. There is also a gift shop with some unique items. more

Very relaxing 9/2/2005

This is a great way to spend a rainy afternoon or even a sun shine filled day. The grounds are wonderful (however right now under construction) and there are plenty of exhibits. They offer a flower show for all the seasons and they are great. There is even a room where you can walk through and butterflies fly around - and they are beautiful. There is a Japanese garden and it is really cool. Just many different types of vegetation and flowers. Also don't forget to go in the Winter because they set up a huge train and it is awesome! more

Beautiful botanical gardens 8/31/2005

Situated in Schenley Park just behind Carnegie Mellon campus, this conservatory just completing a remodeling project on its entrance, while continuing to expand further into the park. A wide variety of plants from exotic locales await with in, including a model train room, decorated seasonly, a fountain free for you to program its actions, and a butterfly room in the summer and fall. Popular for wedding receptions and photos. more

Beautiful Flora 8/20/2005

This is a phenomenal attraction in a city like this. It was what pittsburgh needs to add to its tourist attractions. Its one of the best botanical gardens that I have seen so far. If you are an avid gardener or just admire flora, Phipps Conservatory will have something for you. Kids will even be entertained by some of the exhibts that are housed. My favorite has to be the bonsai trees. more

A beautiful botanical garden 8/16/2005

Phipps Conservatory is one of Pittsburgh's treasures. It's a botanical garden located in Schenley park that recently underwent a huge renovation. They have 3 annual flower shows that are huge and draw in thousands of people. The butterfly forest is an amazing opportunity to walk among hundreds of flying butterflys. A great place to take the family for a visit! Beautiful atmoshphere, very educational! more

Beautiful conservatory; newly renovated. 8/16/2005

This PIttsburgh institution is as beautiful as everyone says. As you walk through, there is room after room of rare, beautiful, and interesting plants and flowers. Each room is well-designed with a pretty walkway, and well-marked specimens. Especially beautiful is the entranceway, newly added to the conservatory in 2005. Admission is free with a student ID. In the spring and summer, there is also a beautiful outdoor garden. Overall, a great place to spend the afternoon. Close to CMU and Pitt's campuses. more

the butterfly forest rocks! 8/16/2005

Phipps is a great place to spend a sunday afternoon. The butterfly forest is really beautiful to walk through, and the outdoor botanical gardens are equally splendid. Be careful if you go by yourself, because a lot of couples/families go there on casual dates, and most likely you will be asked to take a lot of photos for people! For more information, check out their web site (http://www.phipps.conservatory.org/). more

Phipp's Even Better now that it's renovated 8/10/2005

I highly recommend Phipps Conservatory. It is absolutely beautiful. They change some of their exhibits so there are new things to see each time. Around Christmas, they have a model railroad that kids love. If you have time, take one of the free guided tours of the conservatory and learn a little of the history. It is truly fascinating. I've been to several conservatories but Phipps is my favorite. Even better, CMU and Pitt students get in for free with their IDs. more
