Classic Newsstand, Great Intl. Papers 5/21/2006

Out of Town News has been around so long that it’s hard to picture Harvard Square without it; even if you’ve never bought a paper there, you’ve probably met friends at this central landmark. It has one of the best selections of international newspapers around (although this may be waning with the upswing in internet reading). They have magazines and a basic selection of gum. Come browse through the outdoor display while waiting for your friend. more

You picked up a copy of the Wall Street Journal on your date 4/2/2006

True story. Once I was on a date and the guy took me somewhere in Harvard Square - out for ice cream maybe? – and we walked around for a while afterwards. As we passed Out of Town News, my date decided he needed a copy of the Wall Street Journal. It seemed an interesting read for him, as he was more of a Sports Illustrated kind of guy, and I made an off-handed comment about it. He told me he needed the WSJ to learn more about making money so he could spend it on girls he took out. We didn’t date long. But Out of Town News did have what he was looking for, as well as plenty for me to read while I waited. more

Meet me at Out of Town News 9/26/2005

This is what I would always tell my tardy friends. When they were invariably late they became enablers of my periodical addiction. Out of Town News carries newspapers and periodicals from all over the globe. Of course the newspapers are very expensive but it can be fun just to browse. Also, this newsstand has a great selection of literary journals and periodicals from other countries. more

Who knew there were so many magazines in the world 9/3/2005

I love looking around Out of Town News. I am constantly amazed by the number of different magazines they have and even more surprised that there are people out there who are actually interested in buying each of them. Great place to browse while waiting for a friend you are meeting in Harvard Square. more

More of a Landmark/Meeting Place than anything... 8/18/2005

This newstand seems to have more magazines than newspapers. They seem to carry a very wide variety of titles, so if you are looking for an unusual magazine, I would direct you to look here. They also have your typical candy and snacks inside. It's main function, in my observation, is that of a landmark for people meeting in Harvard Square. It is a rather large kiosk and it is located pretty much directly in the center of Harvard Square. If you are getting off the T and meeting people, "Out of Town News" is a good place to meet. Other than that, it is not too exciting. more

Was great, now good 8/18/2005

Over the years as the market has dried up for the written word, this newsstand has scaled back some of its offerings. Formerly, its eponymous offerings were almost intergalactic in scope, and it was fun to peruse the newspapers from all over the world. Now there's less out of town news. But still, probably the best selection of periodicals. Both outside and in. This is also a time-honored meeting spot. "I'll meet you at Out-of-town news." You can browse while you wait for your tardy dates. more
