Hidden Sweets is a fun store with lots of candy, cards, souvenirs and gag gift items. Be very careful when buying candy from the bins, that little bag of candy gets very expensive very quickly! The card selection is quite good and cheaper than Bob Slate for boxes of cards such as thank you notes. This is a great place for tourists to stop, not so great for the locals.

I've taken three classes there so far and my experiences have been mixed. I took a beginners painting class and was yelled at by the teacher for painting while she was talking. I think she taught at grade school during the day and just couldn't make the shift to teaching adults who are in a class for recreation, not a grade. The wine tasting class was much more enjoyable (and the instructor did not take himself too seriously!)
I'll be back though for more classes -- they aren't very expensive and its such a great way to try something new.

While our condo was being renovated my husband and I lived at the Hawthorn Suites. Because we were staying for weeks we were able to negotiate a very reasonable rate directly. The room was clean and quite comfortable. This is no luxury hotel, but a very good deal for the money. Plenty of free parking, and a bus stops right across the street that can take you to the Red Line - Porter Square or Alewife - T stops.
My parents now stay at Hawthorn every time the visit -- less than half the price of a Cambridge hotel but they get more space and a kitchenette. What a deal!

After a bad experience with Harvard Vanguard's handling of a simple ingrown toenail, I insisted on being referred to a podiatrist. A friend recommended Dr. Mostone and I got the official referral from my PCP. What a difference! He is outstanding. In addition to his clear medical skill/talent, he has a personality that puts you at ease during what would otherwise be an uncomfortable experience.

I first visited Paper Source when I was designing programs for my wedding ceremony. I was blown away by their selection of papers. Truly amazing. The prices are expensive, but the papers they sell are beautiful and unique. There are books and books of other people's projects to inspire you, and if you are not artistic, they can also set you up with a professional to make your one of a kind invitation, program, etc. They also sell wrapping papers, stamps, and more.

I was so glad when they started to carry Boar's Head deli meats. I went in and asked for a half pound of roast beef. The woman working there cut 3/4 of a pound and charged me for it. When I asked if she'd take some back, she looked at me like I was crazy, took back one slice and still charged me for well more than a half pound. Very annoying.
If you live nearby, this is still a good place to go when all you need is milk or another single item.

If you aren't impressed by the choices at Babies R Us, make the trip to Magic Beans. You will be very impressed! Yes their strollers are expensive, but they are truly amazing. Their staff is so helpful as well and will spend a ton of time with you discussing all of the various features available.
Their stroller display is what is truly unique about the store, but they also carry a full line of carseats, toys, carriers, etc. There is even a fun play area for the kids. Check it out!!

Bob Slate Stationer is a great shop for office supplies, art supplies, stationary, and an amazing number of pens. They also have a ton of catalogues for printed invitations for weddings and such. There are stairs in the entrance to their North Cambridge location, so don’t try to go with a stroller.
