NOT HAPPY with the hair cut they did for me.. I did not like it at all, this place stylist are like newbies or something because they did nothing I asked for.. what a waste more

Best Haircut in LA 9/15/2009

I discovered Ohm in an article I read in Allure magazine (Sept. 09). Since the editor was from NYC, had very high standards, and highly recommended Ohm (in particular the stylist, Sierra) I thought I would give it a try. I am pleased to report Sierra gave me the best cut I have received in a year in LA (I moved here from NYC a year ago). She really listened to my description of what I wanted, asked questions about particular sections and how I wore my hair, and talked me through her process as she was cutting to avoid errors. She is also an incredibly warm, down-to-earth person which made the experience even more enjoyable. The style of my cut is not easy b/c it involves long layers, and my hair is straight so it has to be cut well or it doesn't lay correctly or fall at the right angle - Sierra was excellent and I would recommend her for editorial, or to any of my friends. FYI - the cut was $85 which I thought was reasonable. Pros: Skilled Stylist Cons: Uncomfortable hair sinks (they hurt your neck) more

Best deal for quality and price 8/19/2009

You know those rare times when someone delivers more than you anticipated? I just had that experience with Melissa at Ohm Salon and it didn't cost me my entire pay check. This chick is awesome. I told her what I wanted and she took it to a new level. I actually have other guys asking me wher I got my hair cut. Place is kinda tiny and parking is not teh easiest on Abbot Kinney but I did get a free beer. Pros: Hot and talented stylist Cons: a bit small more

Man I miss Selena! Tell her to move to the valley. 3/20/2009

Let me begin by saying, I recently moved out of the Venice area and got a terrible haircut/color in a new place. I've thought long and hard, and instead of writing a bad review of this new place (in Burbank), I'm going to be positive and write about the great experiences I USED to have in Selena's care. She always gave me the cut and color I wanted and was honest about whether a particular style or color would suit me. My curly hair never looked healthier and more stylish- no easy feat fellow curly-heads will note. I looked forward to getting my hair done because not only did it feel like a much-needed pampered experience, but Selena and I would fall into relaxed converstaion, so it was also like visiting an old friend. She's a warm, mellow and interesting person who definitely knows her trade. Go see her, she's great. Pros: style, color, conversation Cons: n/a more

professional stylists doing what they do 2/7/2009

First of all, I find it interesting that none of the bad reviews mention the names of the stylists who gave them such horrible experiences (while most of the positive reviews do). While I don't feel quite the same level of passion for ths place as some of the 5-star reviewers, I find it really hard to imagine that anyone will leave this place with their hair falling out -- all of the women who work at Ohm are professional and well-trained. Pros: Individualized hair consultations Cons: Expensive -- as any good haircut and color is more

BEST SALON in LA, and what a way to relax! You'll leave looking Beautiful! 12/16/2008

Ok, I'm really really surprised to see any bad reviews about this place on here - and believe me, I'm not overly generous with compliments. First of all - I've been going to Margo for over two years - she's such an amazing stylist, artist and person that I'm pretty sure if she ever left or moved away, I'd be totally devastated. I always like to do something crazy with my hair, either wanting to go extreme with 4 different colors, wanting to look totally completely natural or wanting to die it from my blonde to jet black - and she's right there, telling me if it will look good or bad and then making it look as though I just stepped out of a catalog. I'm really not kidding here people, she's more talented and has more of a vision than anyone I've ever seen in LA, NYC, Australia, London, or Italy (all places I've gotten my hair done more than once) ... Now then for Rohanna, the owner - what a complete sweetheart. I came in less than two weeks before my wedding and decided I wanted hair extensions. (The turn-around time for even ordering is two weeks) - but she simply said No Problem and rushed them to get there in a week.....Now I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I was really really nervous about hair extenstions, I didn't want my hair to look fake or over the top... well, I walked out of OHM feeling like a princess. She did a suberb job of setting the extensions, then cut them up so that it went with my hair perfectly and to the point where today people are actually saying ""wait, something about you is different"" .. You can't remotely tell that I have extensions, they look as natural as can be. I NEVER write reviews, but felt it my duty on this one. This is the least pretentious salon in Los Angeles, and everyone is always happy and laughing. It's truly a relaxing therapy session without the annoying therapist. I'd recommend to everyone without hesitation! And people that are just writing bad reviews because they are vendictive, I'd watch out for your karma! Pros: Stylist, ambiance, great colorists and artists, and great music! Cons: um, I honestly can't think of any.... more

Apparently the owner of OHM is able to remove bad reviews. 12/10/2008

i will never use citysearch again, i wrote a legit bad review about the stylist and salon and it seems to have been removed, so apparently citysearch isn't as credible as i thought. what a disappointment. Pros: no comment Cons: no comment more

You know i feel bad writting this......... 8/1/2008

I chose this salon after seeing all of the great comments on citysearch. I must say that I am extremely disappointed. I called in advance and explained that I would like someone who is very experienced with color/highlights and whoever answered the phone said that anyone I got would be good since they all specialized in color (with an annoyed tone in her voice). I should have known better that they would say this about anyone who worked there. I decided to make an appt anyway. I went in and told her I like a VERY natural look and that I did not want to look skunky/striped in any way. I also explained that I wanted the best grey coverage. So in the middle of doing my highlights, she said it would be best to change my base color (add on another $85). SO I agreed trusting her. Ummm, my highlights look more grown out than when I walked in the door because the color blead up into the bleach. I had also explained to her that my hair was very fragile and she still pulled the bleach all the way through to the ends. NO hairdresser does this on already bleached/highlighted hair (even with the lowest volume). Then in the middle of doing my hair, she dried it and then went back in to supposedly fix the big stripes and add a couple more since it looked so grown out. I did not get a haircut but apparently I didnt need to since my hair is now breaking off. I feel really bad because she was a very nice girl but I would not even go back to get my hair fixed. I think sometimes hairdressers just give you what they think looks good and not what you ask for. I feel bad for even writing this but I am so bummed about my hair :( Pros: Nice Stylist Cons: Bad color job more

Great cuts and atmosphere~ go see Malina! 4/30/2008

I was a client of Malina's for years and she always does a great job. She is super sweet and friendly, and always listens to what you want. The owner is great - the first time I went there I had an issue with a miscommunication with a different stylist (not there anymore), and the owner (""Rohanna"" I think), was perfectly accomodating. Ohm offers free bangs trims in-between cuts, which is very convenient. I have been super sad to leave Ohm, but the only reason I am not going there anymore is that I am a student and I just can't afford it anymore :-( I will miss you Ohm! Pros: great stylists & colorists (Malina & Farzaneh are great), no sales pressure, great neighborhood - shops/coffee/pinkberry! Cons: a bit pricey ($90 for single process color - i have longer hair), but I guess typical for trendier LA salons more

Great hair cut! 2/1/2008

When I first arrived in LA I had a terrible time finding the right salon and had many bad haircuts. I came to Ohm on the basis of the recommendations here (would be a shame if someone gave any credibility to the recent comments) and could not have been more satisfied. Jen seems to have an instictive understanding of what I want - every haircut is perfect and lasts a long time (touch ups of bangs are offered at no cost). This salon is real find. Pros: Good service, relaxed atmosphere, great cuts more

Gotta love it! 1/16/2008

I've been going to Ohm for over about 2 years now and every stylist is amazing and has their own talent and style. I had a hard time finding a good salon in LA that wasn't pretentious, and you didn't have to sell an organ to get your hair cut. And I'm more experimental with color and style so I was looking for some creativity and funk vs the everyday hair styles you always see. I love Rohanna and she really works with me to get the right look and makes great suggestions. I'm not sure what beef this user/users are having with this salon but I consistently receive great service and it is clean, professional yet fun, creative, relaxed and comfy. I've never had product sold to me either. I've recommended this place to a couple people now and they love it, even though they are more conservative than me with their look. Parking is never a problem - just go into the residential streets (free parking!) and walk 1 block to the salon. Try to find that anywhere else in the city! Pros: Reasonable/competitive prices, creative, fun, friendly, talented, not pretentious, service Cons: Cons??? What cons??? more

Melissa - HAIR ARTEEST : ) 6/28/2007

I went to Melissa the other day and had the best hair experience ever. I wanted to take her out for dinner after! All I have to say is hello? This girl actually has a degree in Fine Arts! She actually STUDIED color theory in college! Why those weren't the first words out of her mouth is a mystery to me. After she told me that my nerves about coming to a new stylist were calmed and I sat back and enjoyed the ambiance. I got the best highlight job of my life. She is the quickest and the most meticulous (not sure how that is possible) hairstylist ever. I come from New York as well and know good stylists/ salons and this one tops the charts. The atmosphere is very breezy and sunny and the vibe is chill, but professional. I am sad though because I am moving now! Anyway, do yourself a favor and check her out! Pros: ambiance, stylist customer service, value, everything Cons: that I can't bring Ohm home with me back to New York more

Lovely! 5/30/2007

I felt compelled to vouch for Ohm after reading the uber-negative comments below (but to be fair to the nay-sayers, public forums are designed for free expression - no matter what the opinion). At any rate, I have had nothing but HEAVENLY experiences at the salon. My hair is unique, to say the least - naturally/insanely curly, and falls about chin-length when it's at maximum 'fro-status. Suffice it to say, it would be pretty darn easy to mess my hair up; I've left plenty of salons with a blunt-cut, mushroom-esque, frizzy bob. (Not cute.) But Jen truly 'got' it, right from the start. My cuts are always immaculate & adorable (and they grow out beautifully), and she always takes the time to properly style it . . . and side note: Jen is a total kick in the pants. She's personable, talented & generally rad to be around. The salon itself has a great, cozy atmosphere & the products they use smell/feel yummy. Oh, and it's definitely heaps more reasonable (price-wise) than most salons around these parts. Plus, the receptionist is unwaveringly sweet & accommodating. Yay for Ohm! Pros: Fab salon, cute/cozy space Cons: If any, parking . . . but I've never had a problem finding a spot on Abbot Kinney or Venice. more

Great Salon! Pauline does beautiful highlights. 5/24/2007

My first time there. FYI- The person leaving the bad reviews is CRAZY! so not what the salon is like at all! Pros: Stylists are super friendly, Products are great, Free parking. = ) Cons: a little on the pricier side more

Not recommended if you value good client service 5/16/2007

I was an Ohm client for the last year and saw my stylist every month for color, lowlights and cuts. My hair is long and wavy, and although I've colored it since high school, I've never seen it in as many knots after being washed as I did with this stylist. When I complained about the knots ripping my hair, her solution was to hand me the hairbrush. That experience sums up client service at Ohm. It's marginal, at best. My color was good, but my color has been good at a lot of salons. I went to Ohm mostly because I was too busy at work to look for another salon. Fast forward to last weekend. I went to the salon to get my usual color, but decided on a whim that I would get a makeover for my 10 year college reunion. I asked my stylist if she had a client after me and had time for a cut. She said that she had time. I had no idea what I wanted, except that I wanted a change, so I thought I could brainstorm with my stylist since my hair is long and I was going to cut a lot of length off. She then brought in another stylist to consult with us. HUGE MISTAKE. After 30 minutes of discussion about my hair (she claims it was an hour), my stylist flipped her lid and proceeded to publicly humiliate and berate me in front of the entire salon for another 10 minutes about how rude and insensitive I was for taking up her valuable time to talk about my hair for so long. She then told me that I needed to find a new stylist. When I went to leave, she attempted to charge me for the cut that she didn't have the time to discuss with me. I refused to pay for the cut, but took the high road and gave her a 20% tip on the color (she always got at least a 20% tip from me). In hindsight, I'm thankful she asked me to find a new stylist because I went back to the wonderful stylist I had before at another salon. He's more money, but he really understands what good client service is all about. Apparently, Ohm thinks anyone who values client service just has ""too much time"" on their hands. Pros: Davines Product Line Works Great Cons: Terrible Client Service, Bad Attitudes, Owner of The Salon Is Aware of It And Sanctions It more

Consistently has exceeded my expectations 5/6/2007

I have been a client at Ohm for over a year now, and I have each time had a wonderful experience. I have referred both my roommate and my boyfriend and they also have had excellent experiences. Plus, you don't have to deal with the LA attitude and ridiculous prices of most salons in town. Pros: don't have to book appointments weeks in advance Cons: parking is sometimes tricky more

Ohm? 5/1/2007

My work brings me to LA a few times a year and I like to try out salons when I have free time. Cons: Name doesn't reflect salon. Prices are high for type of salon. Not recommended. more

Excellent excellent excellent 5/1/2007

Someone must be pranking this salon because some of the reviews posted are just silly and laughably not true. This is a great salon. Pros: Great talent, great value, listens to what you want! Cons: parking (what else in LA?) more

Sorry: Not Recommended 5/1/2007

My hair was damaged at the salon. After this happend, I gave the stylist another shot, as I had been seeing her for a while. She then left my hair discolored. I pointed out discoloration in my hair and was told I could buy a product to fix it or come back another time, which disregarded my busy schedule. I was left with orange spots in my hair during an extremely important (and visible) event in my life. Then there were abrupt cancellations and extreme lateness. I also agree that the salon seemed dirty (dusty products), and robes were reused without washing. I was grossed out by that. My stylist was nice, but no one else seemed that inviting. I wouldn't go back ever. more
