Our annual trip... 10/27/2006

In our family, a trip to Ikea needs to be announced one week in advance so that everyone can peruse the website and "place an order." We all love their clean lines and high value. If only the closest store weren't over an hour away! Favorites include: * Reasonably-priced slipcovered furniture -- both easy to change looks for seasons, etc., and great with kids. * rugs and pillows at prices that are very reasonable. * kitchen ware that has style and a low price -- They regularly have big wooden salad bowls for $8! * wrapping paper that's bright, bold and cheap. This store has everything 6/22/2006

Ikea is the ideal store to go for home furnishings. They have all different types of furnisher and displays to look at. They have 4 levels for you to go through and there is so much to look at. The bottom level is where you can make all your purchases and, if your hungry, stop by their cafeteria and pick up their .99 ice cream and/or drinks. This is store also has very low prices! more

Cheap, but furniture falls apart 3/28/2006

I ended up moving a few months ago and purchased all my furniture from ikea. I know there are people who are huge fans of ikea, but I've found my experience to be less than exciting. I made the mistake of going there by myself, and when you're trying to furnish a one-bedroom apartment, there's a LOT of furniture boxes to try to get down - and push to the check out. I had to ask about five employees before anyone would help me get my two carts to the checkout. While it's cheap - I think I was able to furnish my whole apartment for $1300 - you can certainly tell quality isn't really there with many of the products. The fronts are falling off of my dresser drawers (although Gorilla Glue worked really well to fix them) and I worry that the furniture wouldn't survive a move. The one surprisingly good piece I purchased? The bed.... For $200 the mattress is actually comfortable! more

Home Furnishings 3/18/2006

Ikea is a good place to shop for affordable home furnishings. When I first moved into my apartment, I needed to get a lot of furniture, but I didn't have too much to spend. Ikea was a great find for me. I was able to find many things for my apartment and everything fit into my budget. I didn't expect things to last too long, but I'm amazed that I still have most of the stuff and it is in pretty good condition still. This is definitely a great place to get some good deals on stuff for you home. more

Cheap Prices 3/10/2006

You really can't complain about this place. They have so many cheap options for the home. I have bought so many things from here its unbelievalbe. I went in January and stocked up on everything from my bed linens to lamps and bulbs. I got it all for cheap too. They were having some customer appreciation day and I got everything for ten percent off, which was so cheap. Plus, I ate at their restaurant. Cheap food for such cheap prices, I was truly amazed. more

Great furntire 2/23/2006

I love to shop at Ikea. It is such an affordable place to shop, especially for the kids since they go thorough so much so quickly. This store is really big and has everything for your home. My entire family loves to come here because my wife can get her kitchen and bath stuff, the kids can shop for accessories for their room, and I'm happy because I saved money. Another really neat thing here is that they have a restaurant too so while I wait for my wife to finish her shopping, I can grab a snack too. more

Cheap and Amazing 1/31/2006

This huge store should carry everything you need to furnish your dorm, apartment, or home. Don't count on exceptional quality, but the variety and portability of their furniture makes up for it. I especially like the kitchen gadgets and glassware. They've got really cheap wine glasses, champagne flutes, and pub glasses, all great for a party. The café has a decent selection of hot food, and with a 99 cent breakfast served everyday, it's hard to find a cheaper meal. If you are really in a hurry, pick up a cinnamon roll or hot dog on your way out from their café near the checkouts. more

Good prices but too crowded 1/27/2006

Ikea Schaumburg is a monster of a store. With three floors and plenty of escalators to move people around, crowding is still a huge problem at this shopping megaplex. I would suggest visiting during the week, as weekends fill up the parking lot, and you WILL wait in line to use the escalator. The café's central location gives easy access to visitors, but it allows for less relaxation from the thick of the DIY frenzy. Skip the As-Is section here; most of the items are pretty beaten-up and not a great value for what you're getting. Still, prices here are reasonable and if you're willing to fight the crowds, it's well worth the trip. more

Ikea 1/13/2006

I furnished my whole apartment here for soo cheap! They've got really great pieces, and I love how they have the same color in every piece so its really easy to coordinate your place. One thing to be careful of is to check the box before you bring the stuff home because I ended up getting the wrong colors and that was a bummer! You could spend hours in Ikea and not even notice, aside from furniture they also have wall hangings, lights, and other household products and office products. Its usually extremely crowded which is annoying but its fun to browse! more

Cheap furnature 8/17/2005

Ikea is a good store if you don’t expect to have the furniture forever. The prices are very reasonable and the furniture is stylish. There is a restaurant in the store as well. This store is mainly for dorm rooms and first apartments. Ikea is a great store overall and I would recommend anyone on a budget to visit. more

Huge 7/19/2005

This place is huge. I recommend going here if you are looking for cheaper and more affordable furniture. It is not the most convenient because you have to install and build most of things on your own but it is pretty simple. The quality is not the greatest though. This is a great place to decorate the children's room. more

Great looking furniture for cheap 7/17/2005

I love IKEA's furniture because it has a very clean, modern look and it's very affordable. People question the durability of their products because it is mass-produced and at a low price point, but so far, I haven't had any problems with the furniture I bought from there. I really like how everything coordinates. The only drawback is that you usually have to build all the furniture yourself. more

  • In Short
Hopen, Malm, Aneboda-no, those are not suggestions to name your pet, but the Swedish names of IKEA's designer furnishings and decorative odds and ends. Created with a "one-way" layout in mind, shoppers weave through a labyrinth of seemingly endless showrooms stocked with equipment to creatively accessorize every room under the sun. With patrons ranging from groups of freshmen students looking to outfit their tiny dorms to entire families, the store offers a huge repertory of styles, patterns and colors for every unique taste. And speaking of tastes, the small restaurant just beyond the cashiers serves up traditional Swedish fare for those who worked up an appetite.
