There is something about customer service in this town. When I moved here years ago, I couldn't quite figure it out. When I first saw Hilton's I was so excited. I real hometown, local shoe store. Then I went in...
You are treated as if you are a bother. Heaven forbid you place a special order and the shoe comes in defective. Somehow that is treated as your fault and two different sales people have to inspect the shoe before they will order a different pair.
I thought maybe, after all these years I was the only one who felt this way. I started asking my friends who always have smart stylish footwear. They too, agree with sadness that they are forced to shop elsewhere because they too, are turned off by HIlton's service.
About once a year, I give it another go. I think, ""Surely things are different now, I mean, they are still in business."" I end up buying a pair of shoes, I'm happy with the shoes, but I don't leave wanting to go back anytime soon.
Today I tried to go again. I couldn't remember what time they closed. I parked, ran up to check the sign, the neon sign still read ""Open"", the hours I misread to be until 6pm. I gathered my kids up, and trudged through the rain up to the door. The sign was now off. However there was still a customer in the store and a store clerk standing at the door looking straight at me.
I understand closing time. I respect closing time. I did not expect nor would I have wanted to go into the store and keep people after hours. The man standing at the doors pretended not to see me. He would not make eye contact. A simple, ""Sorry, we close at 5:30, but will reopen at blank"" would have sufficed. A simple inquisition to see if I was just picking something up. But no. Just a blank stare past me as if I wasn't even there.
Sorry Hilton's after about 7 strikes, you are out with this shoer.
Pros: Quality shoes, the brands I am looking for
Cons: Service
