I must say all the bad reviews mention prices and service but few mention food quality as an issue. Organic, natural food is expensive. Obviously most of the complainers must not ...

In passing through Boston over the weekend we decided to stop drive through town and find some great Pizza eateries. On my way to Armandos- which by the way has great pizza- I stu...

Decadent Breakfast Sandwiches 5/14/2006

The Hi Rise Bakery in Huron Village does a booming, informal weekend brunch business. I usually end up with an egg and cheese sandwich for which somehow I'm willing to pay $6. What can I say? It's on a potato roll baked on the premises, with either ham, egg and cheese or spinach, egg and bacon. And it is really, really good. The coffee and espresso are pretty tasty here and the baked goods are hard to resist. There's one long table where you'll rub elbows with your neighbors, plus some fiercely desired tables for two. If I'm feeling anxious about finding a seat I just won't come here but the call of the egg and cheese is pretty strong. They close at 3 and are marginally less crowded after 2:30. more

Hi Rise Bakery 4/24/2006

Hi Rise Baker. it hasn't all been said about Hi Rise. In a world of many more wines than cheese, their mixed assortment of fine wines reflects the better, and best-of-bred of the vintner's art. Their latte is la-la, their muffins are ga-ga. It would not hurt them to create an express line at their cash register. it gets a bit crammed and unnecessarily. more

orgasmic food 2/12/2006

One can easily imagine the harried law students from 'The Paper Chase' convening at the communal table to compare notes. Might have soemthing to do withthe fact that the people that hang out here look like they belong in Hollwood's version of Harvard. However, anyoner can appreciate the Michigan blueberries in the New England brown bread, the chili-spiked harissa in the tuna and most assuredly the Sin Sandwich, a mouthful of Nutella and Valrhona chocolate grilled on homemade brioche. You might end up sounding like Meg Ryan in the deli scene from When Harry Met Sally. No, seriously. more

The best bread and great sandwiches 8/20/2005

Hi Rise is located at the corner of Concord and Huron, near Harvard Square. The crust on their baguettes is the most genuinely crispy French of any bakery. All their breads are simply wonderful. Hi Rise makes a number of specialty sandwiches. My favorite is the Mahatma Gloves, which is curried chicken with chutney and raisins. Hi Rise is also perhaps the only place in Boston you can get Vernor's ginger ale. It's the best mass market ginger ale made in America. more
