Fugakyu Japanese Restaurant 5/1/2009

since the last time i wrote a review about fugakyu, it has become my favorite restaurant in Boston area. the food is excellent, i always get sukiyaki for 2 and some sushi ala carte. waiters and waitress are very good. front desk still act like secret service but i ignore it now that they know me as a regular. food is alittle pricey buy you definately get what you pay for at fugakyu. more

Great Fresh Sushi 7/25/2007

The experience at Fugakyu was all around awesome. It starts when you first walk in with the beautiful way the restaurant is layed and decorated. Then there is the wonderful food. I have never had sushi so fresh and some of there roll were extremely creative. I would recommend this place to anyone. more

Great Food but Lose the Attitude 12/23/2006

fugakyu has great food, very fresh and fairly priced. nicely decorated with authentic japanese materials. whats wrong, the host and hostesses all have this attitude like they look down at you. they don't smile, they give you the stink eye when you walk in, they all wear black and have wireless earphones. i feel like i'm being interogated by the secret service. i feel like ive walked into a restaurant for 007 spies. more

Fugak who 7/31/2006

Japan has come to Coolidge Corner. I love this place. The private sitting is perfect for an intimate lunch and the upstairs seating is great for parties. The sushi is wonderful, some of the best in the area and the noodle soups and salads are to die for. Its a bit pricey but its worth every cent. more

Good sushi 4/14/2006

I love the sweet potato rolls at Fugakyu. It is sort of upscale and is a bit pricey but it is well worth it. The staff are very helpful when selecting the right fish for your sushi. Even though I have not experienced this problem personally, someone in my group had a lot of questions about what fish should go with what sauces, etc. Anyway, the staff were extremely helpful. more

great atmosphere, great food 4/13/2006

Fugakyu is a really really nice Japanese restaurant where you get the authentic feeling. The restaurant is clean and the servers are very nice and hospitibal. The food is delicious too. It is reasonably priced with rice plates, noodle dishes, noodle soups, sushi, and japanese sake and other drinks. I always have bhad great experiences when coming to Fugakyu. The food is fresh and nicely presented. I highly recommend Fugakyu in Brookline. Although other people may recommend other Japanese restaurants in the area with better sushi per se, the atmosphere at this restaurant is unbeatable. more

Fancy Sushi 3/22/2006

The minute I entered this restaurant, I felt like I had been transported to a world resembling "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon." The restaurant is designed with an asian artistic flair. The food is no different, combining unique ingredients with standard fare, making for some very interesting dishes such as the Black Forest Maki comprised of Eel, fried sweet potato, cucumber, and black tobikko. It's a bit pricey here, but definitely worth if you're in the Brookline area. more

Best Sushi in Boston 12/8/2005

This is the best sushi I had when I lived in Boston. I used to live right across the street so visited often and it never let me down. I'd request a "booth" (I'm sure there's a proper name here) where you can slide the door closed for a more private evening. While it's just outside of Boston, it's a quick cab ride to backbay or you can visit coolidge corner after dinner which has lots of great shops and restaurants. more

mmmm 8/31/2005

The 2nd best place to get sushi in the Boston area. The wait on weekends run anywhere from half an hour to two hours so be sure to get there early or not hungry. I recommend the caterpillar roll and the salmon fried rice. AMAZING. Plus I just recently discovered this baked delicious crab, scallop, cheese dish. OOooohhhh more

Great Date Place 6/27/2005

This place is a nice place to go when you want some quality food and nice ambience. The food is of superior quality. The sushi is wonderful. I recommend anything with salmon and will always order the rainbow roll. And although sushi restaurants are not known for their desserts, Fugakyu has AMAZING desserts. There is something for every palate. more

Great sushi, but you pay for it 4/20/2005

This is great food at average prices, thus the "good" rating. The spicy tuna roll is the best I have ever had. Other favorites include the black forest roll and their rainbow roll. Also a good place for big groups because of the private rooms. They recently opened a fancy French-Japanese fusion place within Fuagkyu, but I haven't tried it. more
