The first time I went several years ago I found it quirky. Now, years later, after many repeat visits, the quirks are comforting because it's like I'm in on a secret: this is one ...

Mediocre best describes the experience at this restaurant. The setting is smart and interior is fresh and comfortable, but everything else is barely acceptable, especially the pr...

Cold, strange, and uninviting 10/15/2005

If you are expecting a warm, romantic atmosphere, this is not the place for you. The restaurant is a bit hard to find even once you are parked and at the right complex. You enter through a walkway of outside diners, but there is no clear marking of the entrance or hostess stand. Once we located the hostess, we were seated in very modern, solid metal chairs at a tiny table slapped up right next to the bar. These chairs have no cushion and are cold and uncomfortable. Menu options are hard to understand. In fact the menu is arranged in such a way that it is difficult to decipher appetizers from entrees from desserts. The food was the one bright spot in the evening - it was good, but small portions and we quickly ate so that we could leave and head to more comfortable surroundings. Pros: Food, Polite waiter Cons: Atmosphere, Menu Options, Layout of restaurant more

Enchanting..... 8/23/2005

A little hard to find but when you do you are in for a treat. The service was attentive and gracious, granting all of our special requests (different table, too cold). But the food....oh the food!! Definatly one of the best meals I have had in ATL. The quality is top notch and pairing inventive. I was very impressed and will definitly be back again. A very special place not to be missed! Pros: great service, amazing food, nice atmosphere Cons: hard to find more

most over-rated place in ATL 4/30/2003

Our group of five had a terrible experience. We were first seated at a beautiful table, but after getting our drinks a large, garage-type door was opened which make the temperature plummet. (This was the evening of huge hail and freezing temps...) When we asked if the door could be closed, the manager was extremely condescending and said, ""no"", but offered to move us to a ""wonderful table nearby."" That table was located in a back room, with very little ambiance or character - a big change from our first table. The food was very overpriced for the quality. (Stay away from the trout.) The capper was when we got our bill - we had asked the waiter to suggest a moderately priced red, but later we were charged for an $83. bottle of wine! None of us will be returning, or recommending to colleagues or friends. A huge disappointment. Cons: poor management, overpriced, pretentious more

i've eaten here consistently since they've opened and have never had anything less than phenomenal food. the freshest ingredients, great service and incredible value. my favorite place to bring friends, it simply never disappoints. Pros: great food, great value, great service Cons: i don't live there more

floats my boat 1/22/2003

The fried georgia white shrimp, green tomatoes and lemon was an exquisite appetizer; the bittersweet taste of the fried lemon a pleasant new flavor, the basil vinaigrette a wonderful complement to the tomatoes. The roasted organic chicken with bread salad: perfectly crisp skin, the meat itself was juicy, indicators of a careful slow roasting. The braised short rib with olive oil mashed potatoes was exceptionally tender. A dressed up meat and potatoes dish, perhaps a little unremarkable. We finished off with a fresh capriole goat cheese cake with raspberry coulis- a rich, delicious little sweet, yet light and velvety. The goat-cheese flavor was unmistakable and very pleasant, especially with the tart raspberry, which nicely balanced out the sweetness. In conclusion, floataway cafe has nothing to envy of its big sister, Bacchanalia. peaceful atmosphere, impeccable service, and the menu changes every day to blend influences from Europe with fine American dining. Pros: tasteful decor, attentive service, uncrowded Cons: small tables more

Automatic Perfect Evening 11/25/2002

Floataway does creative food well. The appetizers always have something unexpected and delightful. Service is efficient, professional, and pleasant. One of the best in town. We would go every weekend if we could afford it. Pros: unique food, perfectly prepared, worth the price Cons: can't try everything more

Floating Away 7/21/2002

This is by far my favorite restaurant in Atlanta. I simply love the atmosphere-very unasumming from the outside but when you walk in you know you are not just at any restaurant. Its run very efficiently-the bartender makes killer Martinis-and he makes a mean Irish Coffee-you have to order it-They won*t have it on the menu but they should. Everything is prepared flawlessly. I celebrate my birthday's here- I love to bring a crowd of 6-even 3-4 is nice- Sometimes when you there are only two people the sitting is not very good-you might find yourself in some corner. The restaurant is by reservation only-therefore you really leave the weekend crowd- My belief is when you go there with good friends-something magical happens... Pros: No Waiting, Not Crowded, Not too loud more

Eye-pleasing 7/3/2002

This is one of my top five eating establishments in the city. With a menu that changes seasonally, I find myself frequenting here often. The appetizers are bursting with flavor, color and texture. Most are quite large, which is a pleasant surprise compared to other high end restaurants. Most entrees are presented in such a fashion that one must appreciate it as a work of art before enjoying what I affectionately refer to as a culinary orgasm. This restaurant is far superior in culinary originality and interesting clientele than it's sister restaurant, Bacchanalia. The fare is so good that the price is justified. The wine list is adequate enough to find a suitable pairing to any meal. more

Urban Romance 5/14/2002

With soft dreamy fabrics toning down the harder edges of this former garage, Floataway Café manages to be industrial and romantic at the same time. Entrees take advantage of seasonal offerings and are California cool. And, while it may be a bit off the beaten path, this means there's plenty of parking and you don't have to worry about the dreaded valet. more

Love it, love it, love it 5/13/2002

I adore this place--it's always the first restaurant I think of when planning a special occasion. Such an elegant, airy space, equally appropriate for a romantic dinner for two or a friend's birthday celebration. Every time I've been the food has been exquisitely prepared with the freshest ingredients. I'll keep coming back. more
