A special thanks to an Equinox staff member. 8/12/2011

Actually I want to give some serious recognition to Michael who works in the maintenance crew for helping me find my wallett & ipod when I was there a few weeks back. I thought I lost them, or someone had took them. After talking with Mike & retracing my steps, it turns out I left them in one of the other lockers in the men's locker room by mistake. Thanks to him & his first searching the lockers next to the one I was using he was able to locate them. I was so relieved that he was able to find it so quickly. He was very professional & took the matter very seriously. Thank you Michael, this is one member who appreciates you! more

RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8/20/2009

$45 should get you a decent pedicure right? Not at this spa. Mine looked like it was done by a my 8y old daughter. The lady used a crusty nail polish from the 90's and clipped/cut my already short nails 5 times and still they were all crazy angled. It was actually amusing after awhile, like a geometry puzzle. It was supposed to include a short foot massage (pedi was 40min long) which is what a SPA pedi NORMALLY does, however this lady SKIPPED it and went straight to hot towels and...yup you guessed it... more filing (she was down to my skin by end of session!) I live in Palm Springs and must be use to trained manicurist. This was RIDICULOUSLY BAD! I walked around showing ppl how bad it was for the next 30min. I really found it unbelievable I spent $45 on the worst pedi I have ever received. Save yourself the needed do-over pedi I had to have done...go across the street to the mall and have your nails done. Pros: Able to squeeze you in I guess? Cons: IT WAS THE WORST SPA PEDI EVER more

Best Massage Ever 8/6/2009

\r Dear Reviewer\r \r \r if you want to experience the best relaxing massage of your life, you must try Will Thomas whose Talent and character are far beyond his massage skills but rather reach those of a master and a one who deeply cares about you not just as a client but as a human being.\r \r With Respect Pros: Best Massage ever had - Will Thomas more

Sham! 7/23/2009

I feel bad for the people who work here because they are really talented, for the most part. This company churns through employees like McDonald's serves customers and it makes me wonder if they understand spa at all. Pros: mostly talented staff Cons: terrible company more

One of the best Spa Experiences I've ever had 6/10/2009

I travel to Los Angeles regularly and I am definitely going back to this spa every chance I get. I was greeted by a very sweet woman named Mia, who was an absolute gem. The layout is confusing, but she walked me through to the waiting area where you meet your therapist. I had an incredible shiatsu massage with Parker and absolutely floated out. The facility is incredible. I was able to shower for the day and the products in the shower and at the counters in the women's lockeroom are awesome. This is absolutely my spa when I am in LA. Pros: great people, excellent space Cons: slightly confusing layout more

Amazing Spa Experience 6/10/2009

I had no idea that I would get to use the club because I bought a massage. For spending $115 on a massage, I got to arrive in the morning, work out at their not-crowded awesome club, take a yoga class, shower, sit in the sauna, get my massage, and then spend the afternoon at the amazing outdoor pool. we were also able to order lunch from the hyatt. i'm doing this monthly!!! my therapist sherri was amazing. i would describe her as gifted. Pros: incredible therapist, serene space, great!!! more

Best Massage Ever! 3/12/2009

My experience was amazing! I had an 80min sports massage with a guy named Cedric. This was recommend to me by the receptionist when I called to book an appt. I was not sure exactly what to get, but once i described my aching muscles from working out a new trainer, the host suggested not only I get a sports massage but that I get it with specifically Cedric! I am happy I took the suggestion because he knows sooo much about each muscle in the body and worked out my muscles in a way that i'v NEVER experienced before. From the moment I arrived at the spa to leaving i felt relaxed and pampered. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. I felt relaxed even before I was picked up to receive my massage, because the staff made me feel at home. Cedric knew how to use just enough pressure to get the knotts out of my aching muscles without it being painful. Also I normally have a very hard time relaxing, yet somehow he was able to get me to relax my body and mind. The stretching incorporated in the massage was another bonus! He stretched my muscles in ways I didn't know I could stretch, and used drapping techniques to secure my comfort. After my massage cedric was also very helpful in giving me a follow up suggestion with my workout regime as well as a timeline for when I should come back for anther massage. This was the BEST massage I've ever experienced in my life! I'd recommend this to everyone, and i'm thankful that the spa receptionist suggested this to me. Pros: Massage was the best i've ever had! more

Such a waste people! A broken machine. 2/23/2009

I love it when someone or some company that has endless money throw their money away opening up spas. If you like the over-the-top scene but could care less about serenity and well being then by all means go to the spa located in the Century City Equinox. They honestly know as much about me the client as I do about how to build a car: nothing!\r The formula for opening up successful spas is having people run it that actually care about your inner peace and energy rather then taking as much out of your pocket as possible. I am headed back to my favorite little spa in West Hollywood. If I could give this place a little advice it would be to simply start caring. \r peace and love!\r H Pros: The fact I never have to go back Cons: the corporate approach, the snobberie, the lack of caring, the parking, the list goes on more

NEVER NEVER NEVER Go here 2/15/2009

What a joke? This place charges 110 for a 50 minute massage so you know they better bring it. THEY DON'T. Simply put this place has no idea how to be a spa. I almost can't say anything good accept the facility is beautiful. If you book know you will have nice diggs but terrible service... kind of like a beautifull restaurant that has terrible service and food. Go elsewhere!!!!!!!!! The massage was a disaster, the front desk was inept, and the check out was hilarious. D-\r \r \r Pros: Nice Facility Cons: Massage, People, Check In, Attitude, Just not a good spa, wrong approach more

Confusing Layout, must tell therapist exactly what you want! 9/14/2008

I am at a spa at least once a month. Not only was this spa confusing in layout (as many have already mentioned) the staff's lack of attention to detail was pathetic! The only person that did his job well was Justin, a host that greeted me upon check in and check out. They asked me if I wanted a robe and slipper upon arrival....OF COURSE! This is standard at a spa! Not to mention the robe was see through and super thin! The showers in the locker room were a joke, while the shower heads were too big for the stall, the water kept getting hot and then cold for the duration of my shower (and I even switched shower stalls mid shampoo because I thought it might be that particular shower -- it wasn't!). I had two treatmtents, the first therapist had only been working at the spa for one month and she was horrible! Not to mention at the end of my treatment she suggested that I refer her name to my friends in order for her to builder her client list! AS IF! And the second treatment i had, the therapist didn't even ask me any questions! It was clear she failed to look at my paperwork because it clearly indicated to focus on my fact muscles (which she didn't!). I was so mad that I spent my hard earned money at this spa, i'll NEVER GO BACK! Upon check out (which is entirely confusing) the register was freezing up, so after 15 minutes of waiting (and listening to the check out host say the F- word more than 5 times) the manager came down but offered no help. I ended waiting over 20 minutes to check out and left with such a bad taste in my mouth I promised myself that I'd forwarn others about this place. USE YOUR MONEY SOMEPLACE ELSE! It's obvious they don't care about their jobs! Oh, and I forgot to mention that they were 15 minutes late to get me in the waiting room for my 2nd treatment! REALL PROFESSIONAL! Pros: Good location in Century City Cons: LACK OF MANAGEMENT more

Overall a Very Good Spa Experience 7/27/2008

After reading the reviews on CitySearch, I was somewhat hesitant to go to the Spa at Equinox. I have to say I was actually very pleasantly surprised. The layout was not all that confusing - I check in at the front desk, where they led me to the very plush locker room and pointed me to where the spa waiting area was. After heading upstairs I was greeted at the spa reception area and escorted to the waiting area. The waiting area was very modern and soothing, and even had an outside cabana area that ran adjacent to the Hyatt Regency. My massage therapist was very good, and my overall experience was positive. I can see some criticisms in terms of flow - it is not the most intuitive process, and they could streamline. Pros: Good Therapist, Modern Design, Outside Cabanas for Spa Reception Area Cons: Layout is not particularly intuitive more

HALT! Red Flagged! 7/20/2008

With LA being a lot of hustle and bustle, finding a great spa get away is essential. The layout, the feeling of warmth and serenity and a staff who understands all that is VERY IMPORTANT. In just reading what others have said about the layout (confusing as to where to go) and a staff that is not spa quality are HUGE red flags for a spa. I will not be attending this spa and wasting my money and time. They need to take their customers comments to heart if they want to have any. I am off to look for another spa. more

The Devil is in the Details 6/7/2008

I was a big fan of the former spa in this location. This was my first visit since Equinox took over. This club has an identity crisis; it can't decide if it wants to be a fitness club or a spa. I can tell you, they missed the mark on spa services. First, when I checked in the person checking me in was clearly a ""fitness"" person and could not even find my spa record. Then she asked me my shoe size, but later provided me with slippers that were 4 sizes too big. Towels in the locker room were piled high, but in all the wrong places. There were none in proximity to the showers or the hot tubs (a big deal when your slippers are 4 sizes too big and keep falling off). You returned used towels into a cheap plastic trash can. No combs or brushes in the locker room. When I asked for one, I was presented with one that had not been cleaned - no thanks! My friend and I almost walked out without paying because it is not clear where ""check out"" is - it is a different spot from check in. The treatment rooms were lovely, but the service within them was just OK. Also - the attendants all wear shirts labeling them according to their jobs e.g. ""host"" or ""attend"". It is like the ""hosts"" don't want to be bothered with certain requests. They miss the mark on what a spa experience should be like. After dropping $300 for a couple services, I expected to be thrilled and pampered. I wasn't. more

Great Massage 3/4/2008

Front desk staff were super friendly, caring and full of smiles. If I have to be picky, two of them broke into a personal conversation while standing at the front desk upon check-in, which isn't appropriate. The layout is confusing and I didn't care for the fact that the therapist does not pick you up from the locker room waiting area. You're left to wander down a long hallway and then up a flight of stairs on your own while people who are clothed pass by you. The hot tubs did not work, and when I addressed this to an attendant, (after flagging her down) she didn't speak a word of English and just shrugged her shoulders. I asked her to get a manager, and she got her colleague who told me that the person on the earlier shift did not fill up the water appropriately which is why there were no bubbles. (It was also barely hot)...I proceeded to the sauna to find that the clock was three hours behind. I set the alarm on my cell phone. I never seemed to find an attendant to ask for help. When my friend and I sat in the waiting area, his massage therapist picked him up early, which although we were not having a couples massage, I'm accustomed to both therapists picking us up at the same time. The Pluses of the spa: Sony is a magnificent massage therapist. Great personality, professional, and highly skilled. Well worth the money. The ambience is relaxing and beautiful. Front desk staff upon checkout, once again, were friendly and had big smiles! Pros: Sony was a great massage therapist, gave a five star massage, ambience, friendly valet Cons: jacuzzis aren't great, and attendants aren't anywhere to be found in the locker room more

Most expensive waxing I've ever seen 1/15/2008

Had a very mixed experience at this spa....facial was really great, loved the facialist and it was well worth the money. Then I had the MOST EXPENSIVE BRAZILIAN IN THE WORLD the next day. They upcharged me $25 for a Hollywood (""regular"" Brazilian is bad enough at $80). By the time I got done with a tip, it was $125 for a waxing. Really! I live in London (not exactly an inexpensive City) and I've gone to spas around the world (NY, Aspen, Paris, Hong Kong....) I've never paid anywhere near that much for a waxing. They should be ashamed of themselves. Pros: Ambience, facial Cons: waxing prices! more

I miss Spa Mystique! 4/30/2007

Since it's been reopened as the Equinox, this place IS THE WORST as far as a spa is concerned. The changing room, steam room, hot tub, etc. is impossible to relax in because you can hear the blaring pounding music coming from the gym right next to it. My massage itself was great and my muscles left feeling very loose, but I was NOT mentally relaxed either before or after because of the gym and the noise. Also, I was standing for at least 5 minutes by the check-in desk upstairs in my robe, wandering around, being completely ignored, until I finally asked ""where am I supposed to go for my massage?"" then I was FINALLY pointed (yes someone just pointed - barely looking up at me) to the waiting room, whereas any respectable spa in LA will have someone escort you where you need to go - and this is a MUST in a place as confusingly designed and unlabeled as Equinox. Maybe they treat gym members better. But as a spa, the service needs to be far better and the atmosphere far more relaxing. Pros: Good masseuse Cons: Everything else more

Not Spa Mystique anymore.. it is Equinox 4/15/2007

This spa is fantastic, but was reopened with a slightly new look and MORE employees as Equinox (Yes, the fitness club with HUGE spa attached inside). Most of the same great employees and then some, with plenty of available walk-in spots available (That's usually how I roll, as I can't seem to think ahead enough to call weeks in advance). They even have mani/pedi's, but most people go in for facials, waxing, and massages. And you can use the fitness club and outdoor loung aread next to the Plaza hotel free of charge if you're going in for a spa treatment. Fun times! more

Lost for 20 minutes! 1/13/2007

Spa Mystique has good services, but the employees and front desk staff are totally unprofessional. I arrived 20 minutes prior to my appointment but ended up actually being late because I was wandering around trying to figure out where to go. I was surprised why no one would stop and at least point me in the right direction- my appointment was late evening on a tuesday and I was the only customer there as far as I could tell. It wasn't until I finally wandered into the hotel area that someone said I had to take the elevator upstairs. My wax and massage were okay, nothing too spectacular- I did not leave with that feeling of rejuvination that you get after a really good session, but it wasn't terrible. However, for the price, there are MUCH better places you could go that will actually treat you like a paying customer. more

Great Treatments/ Poor Front Desk 5/25/2006

I had a wrap, facial & massage. All my therapists were excellent & wanted to make sure that I was comfortable at all times. However, I agree with several other of the reviewers in that the front desk staff is not that of a 4star spa. The front desk left me hanging without showing me around or helping to check me in & let me know where to wait for my treatments. There cleaning staff was who stopped what he was doing & took me to where I needed to be. That is what I would expect from the front desk staff - not to simply point a client in a direction, but to escort them there. I had a massage from steven who was great & a facial from Tej who was also excellent. I would go back if I could afford it! Pros: treatments, quiet atmosphere, ambiance Cons: poor front desk more

Not so great 4/23/2006

Weird attitude with alot of the staff, especially the gentleman in charge of handing out shoes and keys by the changing rooms. As a first timer for an 80 minute swedish massage, he didn't bother to show me around or have anyone give me a tour of the locker room facilities. Only a couple workers seemed nice and normal. Very bright lights in the locker area and halls and lounge area-not relaxing and it seemed like a factory. Masseuse was late-Heard a receptionist talking about a client in the gift store. And it costs more than a normal massage anywhere else? Give me a break. more
