Yoga class with variety and proper instruction 12/21/2010

Took a yoga class with Omar the other day and it was really great. He started ontime, corrected our form, performed a closing, and ended ontime - 90 minutes. Namaste. I've been going here for years and the main problem I have with their classes are the following: - Instructors do not show up on time and sometimes go over 90 minutes and then rush the closing sequence. Please respect us, start on time, and if you are going to go over let the class know so those with schedules can slip out and still get their savasana in. - Music is so loud that I can't concentrate on the moves or breathing, I'm just straining to hear the instruction. Music is great but just turn it down a little please. - Learned in Ashtanga primary and secondary movements at Onlyoga in Atlanta it is impossible to go through Namaskara A or B in it's entirety, the foundation of yoga. There are so many movements that are never visited or taught to those at Crunch. Please offer more than 'Power Yoga' and teach us the full series of movements. Bring it back to the basics. And check on people injuries, many times the transition of one movement to the next is not practices because it can cause injury, just because you can move from A to B doesn't mean you should, that is what the original original transitions are for. - Help people with their form or at least mention it in class. So many people here learn yoga from these 'Power Yoga' instructors and don't know the basics. Even how to breath, the most important step. more

Crunch, D.O.A. on Sunset Boulevard 8/11/2009

Crunch is D.O.A. (dead on arrival.) If you like having sxxx with dead gyms (the equipment is filthy / broken) or near dead people (it's the afternoon of the Living Dead in the steam room), you will love Crunch. In June, 2009, Crunch entered bankruptcy due to ""loss of members."" This would come as no surprise to anyone who's fled Crunch's disease ridden crib. There are about a thousand reasons why anyone should avoid Crunch like the plague (#1 being the fact, you'll probably catch the plague) but here's the top ten: One, MSRA - Staph infections. Crunch members could possibly contract one or all of those life-threatening diseases due to the filthy locker-room/shower area & equipment; Two, dreadful music that's dated and earsplitting. At Crunch, it's the same ten songs, over and over and over, at levels louder than a plane flying overhead. Third, nightmare parking. Put away some extra cash for the cost of lost (or, stolen) tickets at Crunch. Four, non-existant security. The locker room's totally unsupervised Five, the new Crunch management busy trying to sell memberships. And, when you ask them for help or to possibly fix equipment, they'll ""get right back to you"" or suggest you, ""fill out a form."" Rigggghhhhttttt.... you can take a hundred cardio classes but nothing's going to give you the lung capacity to hold your breath THAT long. Pros: see what unemployed crazy people w/plastic surgery look like Cons: diseases, scary steam room, broken equipment, bad/loud music more

yeah, this is a good gym 3/1/2009

yes it's expensive, but if you spend a lot of time at the gym, you want it to be clean, with equipment that works. I used to go to the Hollywood, Y , but I got sick of peeling plaster and dirty machines. This as a good gym, they keep it up and they have a boxing ring more

this gym has the best classes, period. amazing for right target market 2/22/2009

I can't speak for the bodybuilder types or nonchalant workout-er who purely use machines, but this gym has the best classes, period. It's hip it's trendy, it's very male - male orientated, and the classes are very high energy: it feels like a nightclub and made working out not feel like a chore. I was astounded that other reviewers further down the page are comparing this to Ballys. I've been a member of both and they are totally different. Ballys I went to when I couldn't afford Crunch. Yes, Crunch is a place to be seen but their classes are great and innovative and for fit, high energy people. I must say, It wasn't a place for me to find a date (the clientele has a lot of gay men and a splattering of celebrities and I am neither) but to me their spinning classes esp. by Andrew, Bob (ala TV fit club fame) and Todd felt like being in a night club and people who went here were extremely fit and ready to work out to loud music and dim lights. The Ballys seems blah and mediocre in compari more

Worst experience ever!! 2/8/2009

I simply wanted to try a spinning class at Crunch and it was a seriously an awful experience. I really hate the hard sell and expected to have someone ask if we (my friend and I) wanted to sign up but this was ridiculous. Not to mention the facility is a mess, the sound system is terrible and the crowd much like an LA club. I have found a great boutique gym in Hollywood called Gear. They don't have memberships and there are no attitudes. Pros: that I don't have to go back Cons: You name it-it's a con more

CON ARTISTS 12/2/2008

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS GYM!! I don't usually fill these surveys out unless I have an amazing experience or a completely horrible one. And with Crunch I found the classes to be ok, the gym equipment was ok, locker room fine. But one negative has ruined all the positives. Cons: no one returns phone calls, con artists, more

A terrible rip off! 9/16/2008

For what you will end up paying a month you can find much better for your money. A lot of stuff seems very old and out of date especialy for this ""hip"" image that they try to give themselves. Also, much of the staff often look very depressed. more

Ehhh 9/8/2008

The gym itself is not that much nicer than a Bally's or a 24 hour fitness and it's incredibly annoying that they don't offer water (you can get bottled water, but you have to pay for it--they don't even have cups for tap water). They have a fair amount of machines but their elypticals don't have built in tvs (just the treadmills and the bikes) and it can get very crowded at times. The locker rooms are harsh and cold and not particularly nice either. You have to bring you own lock as well. Pros: Great classes Cons: Pushy staff, no water/cups available more

Cool Gym 2/25/2008

I've been a member at a number of different gyms throughout LA, and although I think Crunch is a bit overpriced, it's a really great gym. The equipment is always clean, maintained and is state-of-the-art, and the staff seems genuinely interested in maintaining a "family" kind of feel with members-- which is unusual for a corporate franchise. That aside: even though they just installed a new boxing ring, this is not the best place to go if you're a boxer. Too crowded with guys who just want to punch a bag for some reason-- and there are only three heavy bags: two of which are consistently broken. more

needs some changes! 11/16/2007

I joined Crunch because it is the closest gym to where I live: for that convenience, I tolerate an absurd volume of music that plays most of the time, not to mention the choice of music, a disproportionate amount of hip hop and rap, in spite of the fact at least half of the patrons at any given time have their mp3 players on, cranked on high to hear over Crunch's speaker system. more

Best Spin, Abs, Yoga Instructor 10/12/2007

I currently have multiple gym memberships in part due to constantly searching for the best instructor. My search has been completed when I started to take Colin K classes (Abs, Spin & Yoga). I have taken hundreds of spin classes and there are no other instructor that constantly change the music and drives each of the spinners to their best capability like him. His energy, motivation and dedication to always provide the best for his class is without comparison to any others. Defiantly take Colin K classes if you are looking for a challenging yet fulfilling workout. It?s like eating a potato chip, you can?t just eat one... You?ll get hooked, he is the best and don?t you deserve the Best in Life?!! Pros: Colin K - No other like him Cons: N/A more

Better than most 5/5/2007

After going to 24 hour fitness, and becomming fed up with the water being turned off, or the equipment being broken, I joined Crunch. Pros: Nice facility, easy parking, very clean Cons: Pricey, somewhat snobby more

Its Crunch Fitness 9/3/2005

Crunch is a fantastic gym. It's high priced, but then again, it's Crunch. There are way too many trendy people there, which makes it a bit of a hangout. There are great instructors and a pretty good selection of classes to take - I like the spinning class and Circus Sports is cool, too. It can get really crowded with the hangout people and they tend to hog up machines. It could be better organized, as equipment gets scattered all over the place. more

Editorial review from Insider Pages 8/23/2004

I've belonged to this gym for over a year and I've been reasonably happy with it. Crunch is known for its innovative classes and they do have quite a lot of them - however, for those who work during the day, there are usually only about 2 that are offered after 6:30 PM during the week. If you're able to fit in some of their classes, or you work out often, you might be able to justify the high membership fees. Otherwise, you might find it's a bit pricey for what you get. more

Fabulous 8/6/2003

I love Crunch. I was a member in Chicago for 2 yrs and a member here for 2 yrs. I've visited gyms all over the country and this is one of the best. The facility is clean, there are plenty of machines and the classes are the best. If you are serious about your work out, this is the place to be. Some of the members are a bit much, but its LA, what do you expect ? Pros: Great classes, Plenty of machines, Always eventful Cons: "Affected" clientele more

trendy workout 10/24/2002

i've been a member of crunch since the day they opened and never had any problems. the gym can be crowded at times, but it really depends when you go. the best time to be there is after 8p. the gym is practically empty. the staff is generally very helpful, but they can take themselves a little too serious sometimes. i join this gym because i couldn't stand how busy and dirty 24hr fitness was and i've never regreted it. of course there's alot of stand and model types, but of course this is la. Pros: clean, good music, not very crowded Cons: too cell phones, stand and model types more

Fab and Fun place to Workout 9/23/2002

Great layout and design. Good equipment. Atmosphere really motivates me to work out. Parking can be a little crazy at times, but I've always been able to find a space. Lots of cute boyz too! Pros: Cute boys, Innovative Classes, Fun atmosphere Cons: Crazy parking more

Not worth the money 8/16/2002

If crunch is rated the best gym in LA, there is a great market for someone to make a lot of money in the gym industry. It is always too crowded. When a machine breaks it can take up to a week to be fixed. The parking situation is atrocious. They only allow you a 2 hour validation and it can take 30 minutes to find a parking space. I always feel rushed to make it out of the garage within the validation period. To make a long story short, it is way too expensive, way too crowded, not enough good machines, and not enough parking validation. I would certainly shop around. One other thing, they have a ""no judegments"" philosophy....as long as you have a perfect body.... Pros: Pretty gay boys Cons: Expensive, Terrible Parking, Crowded more

These classes ROCK 7/19/2002

It's expensive to join, but they offer the BEST classes in town. Jeff Costa is an amazing instructor! Love the ""strip-aerobics"" (No--you don't have to take off your clothes. But some people do ;) Also try the goddess class or washboard abs. Fun & fabulous. Pros: Amazing Classes, Sexy Bathrooms, Celeb Spotting Spot Cons: Extremely Expensive more
