I have eaten many times at the China Buffet on Mayfair St. in Durham, but NEVER AGAIN. On Friday night I went with a friend to dinner. We decided to go to CB. When we were being seated, my friend asked for a booth instead of a table in the middle of the dining area. The host stated loudly enough for all those around to hear, well, the booths are kind of small, insinuating I was too large for the booth as I was the larger of the two of us. I have ALWAYS sat in their booths before with NO problem. The more I thought about it, the more infuriated I became. I went to the cashier and asked for the manager, only to find out that the jerk who seated us WAS the manager. I informed him how humiliated, embarrassed, pissed off and furious I was at his comments. I informed him that I was not a pig and probably ate less than most people did who came to his restaurant. I told him I felt discriminated against because of my size and that I didn't have to eat there nor would I ever eat there again. He never apologized for his behavior or hurtful words. On the contrary.....he was only justifying his comments. While I will admit I am a bit overweight, I am not grossly overweight and I have NEVER had trouble sitting anywhere I chose, including airplane seats (I only need 1). I realize my business may not be that important to China Buffet, but my feelings and respect mean the world to me. If all the slightly overweight people in Durham would boycott this restaurant, or better still, get a large group of overweight people to storm the restaurant, be seated, order beverages, then all of a sudden just walk out without ordering food, that may give them a notion that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. EVERYONE deserves to be treated fairly!
