Cold Food 12/6/2011

First time visit. Went there because seems to be the only restaurant that have veal. The veal was warm but the noodles and the sauce were cold. The waiter never came to ask how the meal was or if I needed a refill on the drink. My wife had lasagna and was warm to cold too. Most likely wouln't go again. more

One of the few good restaurants in Utah 3/25/2011

I've been going there for over 30 years, I won't stop, It isn't always perfect, real people, real food. Once when I went there and didn't know they closed between lunch and dinner I went there and didn't notice the closed sign, got in the one of the owners sat us and served us anyway. That's the way they have been and always will be. Oh yea, the food is great too. Its a restaurant, not a food factory. more

Salt Lake's Finest... 4/8/2010

What a blessing it is to have such an authentic restaraunt still in existance in SLC after over 30years at the same location! Pros: Amazing Staff with Personality / Great Tasting Food Cons: No Complaints more

Where Everybody Knows Your Name... 4/8/2010

We moved to Salt Lake City about four years ago and stumbled upon Cannella's after seeing the Body World exhibit at the Leonardo. Joey was our bartender and upon meeting him it was instantly like chatting with an old friend. Now everytime we come in the staff recognizes us and always says hello. Pros: Great Atmosphere, Friendly Staff more

Gross!! 1/27/2010

I've been a regular customer here for a few years and used to really like the Lasagna. It used to be delicious, baked with the cheese a little crispy at the edges, just right. Well tonight I went and for whatever they have decided to serve it microwaved now. The center was COLD. I sent it back, THREE TIMES. sorry its gross. Now I have a stomach ache. I won't be going there again. Cons: quality is going downhill bigtime more

Normally a better experience 1/2/2010

We attempted to eat there on New Year's Eve. Despite over half the tables being empty before 630pm, we were told we couldn't be seated unless we promised ""to eat fast"". We normally eat there a couple of times a month and enjoy it - I doubt we are going back. Pros: Usually good food and service Cons: parking more

Unique to the Market; Consistent Quality 11/6/2009

let me say up front, i love utah...for a lot of things...one of those things is not it's restaurant culture. what is anathema to a thriving restaurant culture in utah? the customer base. by and large, restaurant patrons in utah are enthralled with the corporate-restaurant ideal 'yes is the answer, what is the question?' just read the posts about cannellas... cannellas really doesn't fit into the restaurant fabric of utah, and that's great. it's been able to thrive in such a harsh landscape where single-site, individually owned restaurants are not appreciated. in my opinion, its success has been due to three things: the ownership, the personality of its service employees and its fantastic food! if you don't go cannellas expecting a 30-second table greet, you?ll wonder what the people who wrote negative reviews were thinking. embrace individuality, and take care of your local restaurants; visit cannellas! Pros: Relaxed Environment, Non-Corporate Cons: Nothing Comes to Mind more

A Salt Lake classic 10/30/2009

My friends and I frequent Cannella's for get-togethers, meetings, and parties. I've also brought work groups here for lunch. Pros: Delicious food, friendly and accommodating staff Cons: None! more

I really like it! 3/26/2009

I am so confuse by the reviews here. I am from NY where Italian food is everywhere, and it's great. I have enjoyed every meal here, and we eat here very often. My husband also enjoys the food here. I find it flavorful and not at all like processed food! I think the salad could use more types of lettuce, but has lots of veggies, those yummy beets and the house dressing is killer. I love the cheese and bread plate. I often order specials or chicken picatta, also the ravioli. They are always great. I also love Cucina Tuscona, Rino's and Lugano's for Italian, and I think that Cannella's is very good. Pros: good food Cons: parking, can get busy more

Not worth it 2/27/2009

I do not recommend this restaurant. The salad was plain lettuce leaves and the waitress did not get us dressing even when we asked twice. It was a little busy, but thats still no excuse. My hubby got a sandwich and I got an angel hair pasta dish. Both entrees were very bland. What a waste of money!! Pros: Downtown Cons: Bland food, dirty tables more

Great ambiance, subpar pasta 11/5/2008

First time eatint at Cannella's and mine and the gf's experience was a disappointment. The decor and ambiance were amicable. We started our meal with a risotto cake appetizer that was pretty good and the service was friendly. Next came our salad and it was downhill from there. Iceberg lettuce? come on and the balsamic vinaigrette was all oil and a drop of balsamic vinegar, sadly. Next came our pasta, I had the spaghetti with meatballs and the noodles were over cooked and the marinara sauce was way to sweet and the meatballs were flavorless. The gf had the pasta pomodoro and it was completely flavorless and the noodles undercooked. The cooks need a lesson in Al Dente. I had high hopes for this place being that the ambiance was close to perfect for an intimate dinner for two. Were in no rush to try this place again but we will give it another try and hope this bad experience will fade. Pros: Great ambiance, looks like it would have great food Cons: The food was not so great more

Avoid eating here!!!!!!! 7/1/2008

Best Italian in Salt Lake 12/3/2007

We discovered Cannella's last March on my boyfriend's birthday. Since then we have returned at least five times with family and friends or just us. This place is wonderful; I feel like it's Salt Lake's best kept secret! The food is fabulous and the staff is incredibly friendly and outgoing. In fact, they remember us each time we come in, even if it's been a couple months. Our favorite dishes include the bruschetta, veal piccata, lasagna, manicotti, anything with meatballs, and the tira misu! They often have specials which are also delicious. Additionally, they have a great list of unique martinis that are an excellent start to your evening. In the warmer months they have some outdoor seating which is perfect after going to the Arts Festival, or any other downtown event. Try this place, you will not be disappointed! It is always our first choice of restaurants on a rare night out! Pros: Wonderful food with excellent prices! more

Are these 5-star reviewers crazy? 11/21/2007

This is some of the *worst* Italian food in town. The one reviewer who called out the iceberg lettuce in the salads (who uses iceberg anymore?!?!) was spot-on. I've been there 3 times...the garlic bread is made with straight-up margarine (trans-fat, anyone?) and the manicotti is probably the worst I've ever had. I not only eat Italian food often but I'm a very good cook and I wouldn't take my worst enemy to Cannella's, as I'm afraid it would probably hurt my reputation! I hate to admit it, but OLIVE GARDEN is better than this! Cons: Bad location (no parking), disappointing and can-taste food more

Pleasant staff even when very busy 10/19/2007

I've eaten at Cannella's several times and never been disappointed. Our last visit was during the Jazz festival when the place was packed. Our waitress couldn't have been more accommodating, keeping a sense of humor and seating us as fast as possible. We always look forward to returning to Cannella's. It's an authentic family restaurant with a welcoming staff. Pros: friendly staff more

Processed and tasteless food 8/31/2007

I've eaten here three times and it's been about the same every time. The salads are made with straight-up iceberg lettuce and since they've done their remodel, the prices have gone up considerably. Pros: Nice new patio area Cons: Parking more

Local Italian with a deceiving menu. 12/29/2006

We had our doubts when we arrived, the menu seemed small and, well. typical. After being told about some off menu specials we ordered Chicken Marsala and the Seafood Marinera. After some mix ups with the wrong salads we received our meals which were deceivingly large portions. The food has a real home cooked flavor, and definitely not typical. The seafood marinera had a ample amount of seafood. It seemed to be understaffed for the amount of people in the restaurant on a friday and this definitely showed in the timely delivery of drinks and the bill, which we received the wrong change. Other than the waitress problems the food was great and the atmosphere is perfect for dates, friends, or full families. This is a inexpensive place and is well worth the money. Pros: Downtown Cons: A little noisy more

a very pleasant surprise... 2/6/2004

Cannella's has been around for the past 25 years of my life and yet this is the first time I have ever eaten there. Where have I been? I found the atmosphere cosy, the service was friendly and attentive, the food was delightful. I hesitate to post a review and share my new discovery with others, because I want to keep this place to myself. Based on the number of regulars that seemed to be eating there, that is probably a pipe dream. I had the chicken pesto and my husband had the rigatoni. Both were delicious. We will definitely be back to introduce ourselves to the regulars. more

Authentic Italain Food in Salt Lake 1/27/2004

This was a great find while recently visiting Salt Lake. I would highly recommend their salmon with pasta special for dinner. It was excellent and it unbelievably inexpensive for the quality and large portions of food. I did manage to save room for dessert and coffee and it was well worth it. The tiramasu was excellent as was the espresso, very authentic. If anyone visting Salt Lake is looking for a cosy Italian restaurant, reminiscent of those in New York, Rhode Island or San Francisco this is the place you want to go. I will definately be coming back on my next visit. Pros: Very Inexpensive, Excellent Food Cons: , Small and cosy more

Big thing in a small package 8/27/2002

This place has the best clam linguini I've ever tasted in the Salt Lake Valley. They wait staff is usually excellent and the rest of the menu is great. They offer ""daily specials"" which are my recommendation. Pros: Taste, Inexpensive, Clam Linguini Cons: lunch hour wait, location more
