California Police Equipment

One of the best customer service experiences I have had! So I had passed this place a few times while driving up El Cajon Blvd, and had wanted to stop in for some time. I am working to get into the police academy, so I had a genuine curiosity to see what kind of tools are part of the trade. But then I had a better reason to go in: my mother lives alone and a prowler was recently outside her home. I wanted to buy my mom some pepper spray. The gentleman in the store was very helpful and sold me this little hand-held gun of sorts that fired police grade pepper spray at 70 MPH. When I told him that I was working towards joining the police academy, he was extremely helpful in giving me advice and pointers on how to train before entering the academy. The guys who run this place are very good guys. i heard them answer the phones and they were very professional and friendly. This place also has a GREAT selection of tactical gear. I will be doing business with this place in the future for sure. more

The "sales clerks" working there are rude, very arrogant, and not helpful. A lot of my co-workers as well with me have the same complaints. Rude customer service, they act like their cops or something. Why would a "sales-clerk" where a gun on their hip? LOL. It's funny when they're just sales clerks. Value: overall expensive. Go to ACE Uniforms: they have a full warehouse of products with very helpful and knowledgeable staff. EEE is a great store for law enforcement needs, with very nice and helpful staff. more

If you are looking for tactical gear and equipment you will not be disappointed. They have a great selection of items such as holsters and gear bags. They also have a great selection of ammunition. It is pretty difficult finding .380 ammunition but this store always seems to have it in stock. They have an enormous amount of accessories for firearms. Lights, optics and cleaning kits to name a few. One thing I particularly like is they carry a huge amount of Magpul products. It seems like they have Magpul's entire catalog in stock. They have a huge selection of handguns and AR-15's in stock. You name it they most likely have it. And if they do not, they can get it for you. They also build AR-15's and sell them either pre-assembled ready to go or you can have a custom one built to your specifications. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. One drawback to this place is the price. They are expensive but they do try their best to match prices. If you need any tactical gear or a handgun, I would recommend this place. more

Cleanest, best organized gun shop ever. Prices are in line with the other shops, but the firearms expertise is superior and no sales BS. The manager, Patrick, is a very skilled armorer who gets work done quickly. He is well known as one of the top "go to" guys for firearms info. His insight has saved me money more

Went in to get some gear for the wife. Two guys working there were chatting with two other guys who were in the store, and wife and I walked around like kids in a candy store. After a few minutes, one of the guys asked us if we were finding everything ok. Wife was looking for a particular set of cuffs, but couldn't find them. Guy asks wife what agency she is with and then shows her where everything is, asks if she knows Sergeant soandso, or Corporal thisandthat, and they start having a great conversation about cop stuff. Guy was super helpful and got everything we needed for us, very relaxed atmosphere, and easily approachable. They don't make you feel like you are wasting their time (American shooting center) or high pressure sales (ACE Uniforms), and it was also super easy to get to. Awesome spot. more

I came into the store last week looking to buy a shotgun for home protection. I purchased a Mossberg shotgun that the store owners son recommended. The owners son is a current San Diego Police Officer, he was extremely knowledgeable and honest with me. He didn't push me towards the most expensive shotgun like a previous store had done. i will definitely be back to this store. Hands down in my opinion the best gun shop in San Diego. Good customer service, good products, fair prices, business stands behind what they sell, friendly staff. Their manager is a Glock and Colt AR armorer and gets work done in a matter of days - not months. All work is guaranteed. Law enforcement personnel who are on duty get immediate assistance so they can get back on the road. Their prices may not be the lowest, but they are fair and the professonal knowledge and assistance received is worth every penney to me. I particularly like NOT being pushed into higher priced products I can't afford or don't want like most gun shops. I like their overall positive attitude - not at all pretentious. more

I would like to say thank you to the staff at California Police Equipment. They were very honost on advice and pricing. The gunsmith Patrick was very knowladgable and answered all my questions. The rest of the staff seemed to be knowledgable and on top of things as well. Everything from ammo and holsters to assault rifles and tactical gear, this store is truly your one stop shop for everything firearms and firearms related. more

So I was looking for a good gun store in San Diego and I found this place. After reading the Yelp reviews it made be a little hesitant to go, but I went anyways. Yes the people behind the counter do give you a stare but you have to realize that these people own a gun store ( a lot of guns and a lot of money) and they are just being careful who walks in to their store. Anyways I purchased my shotgun for home defense there. The guys new exactly what they were talking about and I liked that. They made me feel comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place and yes I will be going back to buy more guns. more

A pin was walking out on my wingmaster 870. Brought it into California Police Equipment for repair. Staff was friendly and told me I would have a quote in a couple days. The price that was quoted was less than I was expecting and they had the gun ready for pickup days before I even had the chance to pick it up! When I went to pickup I was helped immediately. While I was in there I had a few questions about some handguns I was interested in (I'm not familiar with handguns at all.) They gladly answered my questions and had me hold a few different models. After I test out a few handguns at the range I'll probably purchase from these guys. I was treated with great professionalism and respect during my whole experience with California Police Equipment. more

CPE is a GUN STORE. It was owned by a retired SDPD Lieutenant (who just sold it). Before Galls opened, they had the best selection of in-stock duty gear and had a very knowledgeable staff (esp back when Jeremy worked here). In fact, one of my old partners worked here while in college. more

I purchased my first handgun here a few months ago. Justin is very professional and helpful. Patrick is cool too. They are both Glock Armorers. Pricing is hit or miss, which seems to be the story of all gun shops. Definitely gotta shop around for the best price on anything you may be shopping for. Keep this place in mind when you need something. more

Not sure what the poor reviews are about. I went in (unbeknownst to me) right as they were closing one night. The guys told me that my purchase would take as long as it takes. I didn't feel rushed at all - they were super helpful, chatty, and VERY knowledgeable. I bought a pair of tactical pants cause they are super comfy (and expensive, but well worth it since they will last forever.) When asked if they would shrink, the guy said "probably not. If they do, bring them back and we will send them to the manufacturer." I also got a preview and intro to the tazers and protection equipment they carry, cheap to expensive, and some general info about home safety and gun specifics. Both guys were great, and I would feel good buying anything from them. They know their stuff, and they didn't hesitate to stay well past closing time until my purchase was done. more

As a female, I am usually frowned upon when I enter a gun shop. When I walked into California Police Equipment I was pleasantly surprised about the outstanding customer service. They had low prices and a wide selection of guns and equipment. I finally found a great gun shop in San Diego. more

This place is GOOD. I was respected when i first went there. I was looked at in a manner that an unfamiliar face should be looked at upon entry. I immediately went to talk to someone. There was a firearm there that i was looking for, so i bought it. Plain and simple. They have a good selection of stuff all around. They don't necessarily carry the best prices in town but its not priced like a Cadillac dealer. If you are looking to buy equipment for duty (security/police) this place is a great place to go. They have several batons, several different types of chemical agents and several firearms. Lots of accessories. Cleaning kits. They've had a pile of used holsters and the like in there for a while now at GREAT prices. The new ownership is good, the old owner still shows up to assist in the transition. The people that work there are very professional and very protective. For example, they wont talk about batons with you untill you confirm that you have some sort of certification to carry one. I bought a glock 23 at a very very decent price. Parking is on the sides of the building and i have never had a problem with the spots being full. Its near a subway if i can remember right so lunch is right there. Good luck! more
