Been a long time customer of the Butcher Shop in San Diego, but had not visited in several months. Was given a gift certificate so decided to bring guests to lunch today.\r Certificate required $50 purchase for $25 credit. Our bill was $49, so I left the waitress an extra dollar to make it $50 and a $15 tip. She returns the certificate and cash and says we did not spend $50 so we cannot use the gift card. I asked to add a coffee to go and she refused. What a dumb mistake. So, instead of a return customer with a memorable experience who left a 30% tip, she gets a $5 tip from a former customer who will not return. Hope someone in management reads this as in this economy that decision was absolutely imprudent.\r more

Avoid if u want good steak 10/13/2011

Horrible food experience and lackluster service. My husband and I came here tonight for our eight year wedding anniversary, he wanted to try a new steakhouse. When first sat it took 5 minutes for our server to come to our table and take our order, it was obvious she had too many tables. Food started out o.k. appetizer and soup (french onion one thing I really enjoyed) when our entrees came out my husband's porterhouse was good not great but my rib eye and potatoes were cold. They took it away to reheat and when it came back turned out half my steak was under cooked.\r IF YOU WANT A PERFECTLY COOKED STEAK GO TO RUTH KRIS like I originally wanted too. Great food and Service every time. more

Just enough marlbleing to add to the flavor, but not too much to be fatty. Cooked perfect and good service. If you like rib eye, you now know where you need to go! more

Absolutely Wonderful! Awesome Atmosphere! 3/20/2009

The food was amazing, great wine and champagne selection. Try the chocolate dipped strawberries for dessert! I highly recommend the Prime Rib steak dinner. The prices are great for the amount of food you receive. The service was wonderful, and I was impressed by the ambiance of the whole restaurant. I will definitely return and you should try it! Great steaks! 12/21/2008

This is a neat, older place with fabulous steaks. The decor is a little dated, but it adds to the ambience and feel of the place. The food and service were both very good. Recommended! more

Great food! 10/10/2008

If you like to feel like to stepped back in time and want great steak, this is your place. I love the red seating and the dark decor. It feels like a time warp. The steaks are incredible and so are the deserts! more

Lunch or Dinner 8/2/2008

I have eaten at the Butcher shop multiple times for lunch and dinner. I think the ambiance and the food are definitely in the 4 star and 5 star range. The service could be better. The staff looks like they are going to crack if they smile. They do not know how to truly take care of the customer. I only have had one person, a blonde who works the bar area at lunch who seems to know how to really treat the customer. I wish she could work the dinner shift and everything would be perfect. She knows how to up sell, she seems to know when to check on us. Everyone else looks as if we are bothering them. I Have to ask them what they have instead of other way around. more

If you Love Steak, You have to go here!! 1/25/2008

I've been here a few times, and the steaks are excellent. My favorite is the Prime Rib... it melts in your mouth and is the best prime rib I've had in San Diego by far. \r \r The prices are consistent with other steak houses in the area.\r \r The atmosphere is that of an old time saloon. more

  • Butcher Shop Steakhouse has been owned and operated by International Aero Clubs since 1998. Modeled after Chicago-style steakhouses, it features a variety of steaks and chops charbroiled on a mesquite grill. The restaurant s menu also includes veal and chicken dishes, Australian-style lobster tail, king crab legs and shrimp. It also serves a selection of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees, seafood and pasta. Butcher Shop Steakhouse s bar offers cigars and several types of wines, such as chardonnay, white zinfandel, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot grigio, sauvignon blanc, Shiraz, Chianti and pinot noir. It has a seating capacity of up to 200 people and organizes several special events, including wedding rehearsal dinners, receptions, corporate events, board meetings, private parties and family gatherings.
