Cool Place, Dark Enviorment 5/23/2002

Well I havent yet got a chance to see the karaoke, although I did stop by for lunch, with a friend from work. He had recommended this particular place to go have lunch. Never did I have an Idea what kind of meals they served. I had Prime Rib meal with some clam chowder on the side. All in all the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone that loves to try new spots to eat. more

As good as it gets 5/21/2002

Karaoke is an odd business and few places can do it well. The Brass Monkey brings the best location and crowd for Karaoke in LA. Occasionally you get a nice star sighting as well. more

High-Rent Star Search 5/20/2002

I typically do not like karaoke bars. But this one holds a special place in my heart. From the wanna-be divas to the heart-felt renditions of Sinatra--this place is just terrific. Sure, the beer's too expensive and the food's not the best--but for sheer entertainment value, this place cannot be beat. more

Dungeon Dining 5/20/2002

Great place to hang out for a few beers and food. The atmosphere is a bit on the dungeon side, but it's all good cuz once in there you don't mind. Perfect after work place but not good for lunch as the food will take some time to get to you. Pros: Good food, warm environment, reasonable prices Cons: no windows, heater is always on more

Go with time ... 5/19/2002

Cool place, dark enviorment makes you forget what time it is and the cushioned seats help you relax. Service is a bit slow and during lunch, don't expect your food to get to you until your lunch hour is just about up... The waitresses give a bit too much attitude for my taste. But the drinks are good and the food is decent. Happy Hour Rules! more

Fun with a group 5/16/2002

This is a karaoke specific place, and as most places like this do, this has its share of Star Search wannabes. Still, if you have a group going out, it's a lot of fun. The staff is freindly, and it's not so huge that you have to wait forever to sing. more

worth searching out 5/14/2002

  • The Scene
Karaoke brings people together, especially at Brass Monkey. The low ceiling, oversized hanging lanterns and eclectic crowd are not for the claustrophobic. The place is usually packed by the time singing begins at 9pm--and as with the crowd, the songs are diverse, ranging from the Beatles and Billy Idol to Spanish songs and slow numbers. Some die-hard karaoke lovers even bring their own tunes. Luckily, food is available if you need something to snack on, since the wait to perform can stretch to two hours.

    The Draw
For those who need a shot of liquid courage before a performance, the bar offers a "world-famous martini" that's really pretty average. Instead, try a more provocative-sounding drink like the Razzy Monkey, the Ex-Wife or the sweet Funky Monkey made with Watermelon Pucker, vodka and orange juice.
