Big City tavern, small town mentality 1/28/2008

Dont' even bother! Came here for my special birthday. Called ahead for a nice table, we greeted by the manager stating what a special table she had for us. It was the first table we came to, right next to the servers station and overlooking the dump of a bar next door. So much for special. Then the food came. Baked brie with garlic. Sure! More like garlic cloves with a slice of cheese. Ick. The $20 tenderloin for dinner was worse. Sent it back and received the same piece of grissel back only heated through. Hubbys fish was less then fresh and swimming in some weird sauce. The potatoe gratin on the side tasted like it came from a box and had a weird gray tint to it. One appetizer, 2 martinis, 2beers & two dinners came to $125 with tip DONT bother with this place! It looks cute but that's all. Maybe sit at the overcrowded bar for a drink but that's all. Oh, and don'[t bother complaining to the manger, she's part of the problem Pros: Could be cute if they cleaned Cons: They serve food more

Best romantic, relaxing resturant in Centro Ybor (ybor City) 11/3/2007

I had the pleasure of eating at this resturant last night. I found it on the web just looking for seafood. We were going to go to Joes crab shack but boy am I glad we didnt!! the atmosphere in this place was amazing. we were seated promply and served!! Although we didnt get our servers name tha food was too amazing to think of something so petty!! I had red wine and the salonm dish. This was my first time eating salmon and certinaly wont be my last .For dessert I had cheesecake and it was thick and rich. This was the kind of dessert you was to eat and savor bite by bite!! Can wait to go back and take my finace. I thought Ybor City couldn't get any better than those night clubs but then I found my hot spot. This is a must -dining experience for all!! Pros: Ambience customer service location Cons: waiter never introduces himself but who cares with a place like this more

BIG CITY TAVERN...SMALL CITY PRICES 7/23/2007

Note : I have medium- high expectations of Customer Service.\r After driving around for 30minutes looking for a restaurant in Tampa..( I live in Orlando). We found Ybor City....the whole atmosphere there is just soo cute and historic. I reminded me of New Orleans. Sooo I was really ready for good food. After scoping out the other restaurants I spotted Big City in the Corner upstairs. I peaked in the door and It looked similar to Antonio's in Maitland or the Exchange Lounge in Downtown Orlando...but waaay more ""relaxed"" shall we say. So we find our way into the Dining room and it's soo intimate and relaxing. The Hostess was soo Nice and Southern. She sat us promptly and found us a great spot. Everyone looked as if they were having a great time. Soo our waiter gets to us and he never introduces himself he just asks us are we ready to order. I was thinking hold on did I miss something. So we order the ""pot-stickers"" for our 1st course DELICIOUS. Then our ""complimentary"" bread came ...it was supposed to be Foccacia. Wrong it tasted like ""faux"" bread. So then I we ordered the main course. Blackened Chicken. It was pretty good except the supposed baguette it was on. But the chicken itself was good. Onto dessert and we still don't know our waiters name and he's talking to his friends and drinking when he should've been waiting on us. hmmm sounds like grounds for termination. So finally I ask the waiters name , Robert. We go continue with our dessert Creme Brulee. Now this tasted pretty gosh darned Big City. Overall including drinks and tip I think we spent $45. Not bad. So here's the moral when going to Big City don't eat the bread and don't let Robert wait on you and if you're used to Orlando it will not meet your standards of comparable places life Antonio's Cafe Maitland or The Exchange Lounge. But the atmosphere is really nice and romantic. The management, staff, and cooks were all very nice, except what's his face. Happy Dining Pros: ATMOSPHERE AND LOCATION Cons: I HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE BUT YOU MAY HAVE A GOOD ONE more
