Too many little rooms 2/3/2011

An historic venue and a source of happiness for many dance / electronic music enthusiasts. What do I not like about Avalon, well to start with, its too big with distracting little rooms everywhere. Vice and Fire Marshals have a constant eye on this place. If you don't like partying with teenagers, avoid Fridays and if you don't like partying with glue sniffing or acid smoking ravers then avoid Saturdays. Avalon does score high in staging big name talent and pleasing the masses. Lets not forget the lights and sound system. Oh and its a great place for pick up an intoxicated one night stand. If you insist on attending, then its best to attend with a big group so that you can stay safe within your own little party inside. New clubs opens in Hollywood all the time. home of the djs 4/25/2009

This place is like a home for all the djs to come and kick it, and of course spin some of the best music. The decor kind of reminds me of a gorgeous haunted house (if that makes any sense). There are a lot of live performances from music artists at the avalon. Lady gaga recently performed here. If you love to dance, check this place out.\r \r I am tied in with all the top notch hollywood events (ex. H.wood, The Kress, The Playboy Mansion, ETC.). I can get you on the guest list for Avalon or refer you to the best venue on any given night. for guestlist consideration to your desired venue, contact me by sending me your facebook link and number of your party to: brookeytp@gmail com\r \r Pros: really spaceous and great place to dance Cons: sometimes there is cover more

friday nights 12/15/2008

on friday nights they play a great mix of hip hop and techno! plus they always have a artist...mini concert or something. more

Good times on Friday. 12/7/2008

Last 3 friday nights we've been heading out to Avalon and throwing our own parties at the VIP area above the main dance floor. Very spacey and large venue, good crowd and DJ's.. DJ Mr.White usually spins and he never ceases to amaze. Service is very good, the bottle girls are nice, usually dont have a problem at the door. I dislike the fact they have nights where its 18+. Aside that the bouncers are a bit too strict on some things, clearly wanting to be tipped. But overall we have a great time everytime we attend. I would recommend this place if you're a fan of house/electro. Oh and most important THEY HAVE STOLI ELITE..Rare to find a nightclub that has that vodka on their menu. Pros: Music, Crowd, Service, venue Cons: Strict bouncers, 18+ nights more

The right place for the right moment. 8/23/2008

The trick with Avalon is that is a very special kind of club. It sometimes requires some planning. If you don't know anything about it, you will be disappointed (as some of the previous reviews have so eloquently pointed out). If you watch the calendar, you will be rewarded with some of the best techno on the planet. Where else can you catch Ferry Corsten, Infected Mushroom or Donald Glaude doing their thing? Yes, 99.9% of the crowd is usually f-ed up on something... but that IS the point. Whether you are heading over to to be part of the scene or retreat to the upper decks to people watch, Avalon has something for every kind of nightlife hedonist. Don't be so quick to write off the club because the cover is expensive or the lines are long. There's a reason people come back... again and again and again. Pros: A unique LA destination and the perfect place to people watch or get silly. Cons: The influx of post-clubbing groups of Armenians around 4am can be a little off-putting as they prowl the club. more

YUCK. 9/4/2007

As far as nightclubs go, Avalon seems like a joke to me. The long lines out front are decieving: this place is anything but glamorous. The staff is rude, the cover is typically pretty high, drinks are expensive. The smoking patio is an alley that smells like urine and smoke and the dance floor is small. The bathroom lines take forever, only to be hasseled by agressive bathroom attendants. Plus the crowd is kind of nasty: everyone is f&%*d up on something, older or some gross but perhaps mildly amusing combination of the two. I do not know why so many people put up with this place every week. I have given the Avalon several chances and have left disappointed each time. I suggest Circus if you are looking for electronica music. Pros: You can find free street parking if you know where to go Cons: Rude staff, no atmosphere, lame crowd, small dancefloor just to name a few more

Good music, good club, ugly people 7/12/2007

I mean, It costs around 25 bucks to get in, the music is good, the club is a nice location and space, and the people are old (40s) and ugly. I have a good time but its not anything amazing. There is an upstairs room that is much better then the main dance floor. Pros: The club & music Cons: The people! more

Spacious and Flirtatious 5/17/2007

Upon entering you are greeted by several bars, one to your right, one in the back left, and some upstairs (if you can get in). The dance floor is huge and there is plenty of room for everyone to scat the night away. The decor was pretty nice, the upper deck contains auditorium-like seating for all the perverts to lurk and spy on people down below. The outside smoking lounge is reminiscent of a creepy european alley but far removed from the loud sounds of the pumping music inside, good place to chat it up with that lucky someone! All in all The Avalon is a cool place. The music was great, the crowd was dancing, and the service was par. Come here if you wana have a few drinks and let loose on the dance floor. Can't dance? That's ok, you can be a creep and sit up above the dance floor and watch everyone else shake their groove thing! Pros: Huge dance floor, mellow vibes, good music Cons: The lurk-a-torium above the dance floor more

NEVER WANT TO GO BACK 4/10/2007

FIRST THE PARKING- $20 FOR SELF PARK. RIDICULOUS BUT INSURES YOUR BELONGINGS WONT BE PICKED AT. I WENT EARLY NOV OF 06 AND IT WAS FREEZING & WINDY.I WOULDNT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE WEATHER BUT I WAS ON THE VIP LIST AND HAD TO WAIT IN A HUGE LINE MADE FOR GUESTLIST, VIP, AND EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD THAT WOULD MOVE A FOOT EVERY 5 MINUTES IF YOU'RE LUCKY. THE PROMOTERS FORGOT TO PUT 2 OF MY FRIENDS ON THE VIP LIST SO THEY HAD TO PAY. BOUNCERS- SOME ARE COOL AND PROFESSIONAL. ONE OF THE BOUNCERS MADE A BIG SCENE TRYING TO TELL ME MY I.D. WASN'T LEGIT WHEN IT WAS. SMOKING AREA IS NOTHING MORE THAN AN ALLEY. LINES GET INCREDIBLY LONG FOR THE DINGY, CRAMPED BATHROOM. SOME BARTENDERS POUR HEAVY, SOME LIGHT JUST DEPENDS. THERE WERE FIGHTS EVERYWHERE AND I EVEN SAW A PHOTOGRAPHER GET CARRIED OUT. WHAT REALLY SET ME OFF WAS WHEN ONE OF THE STAFF MEMBERS CARRYING THE TRASH OUT, PASSED ME WITH A BAG THAT HAD A HOLE IN IT AND SPILLED GOD KNOWS WHAT KIND OF LIQUID ALL OVER MY HEELS THEN TELLS ME ""EXCUSE ME"" AS IF I WAS INCONVENIENCING HIM. NEVER AGAIN. Pros: LARGE CLUB, MUSIC Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE more

Avalon Saturday Nights 11/25/2006

If you want to be treated like a piece of doggy doo on the bottom of a bum's shoe, go to Avalon. They won't disappoint. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this pathetic excuse for a clud. With their pretentious ""I wish I was a famous actor, but I'm not, cause I have no talent"" bouncers and their ""pretend"" line outside to make them look popular, Avalon is sure to make you feel like white trash. Even though the DJ line-up is great, treat yourself to one of the many other awesome electronic dj clubs on a Sat. night that will actually appreciate your business. Plus, the dance floor is small, the sound system is just sad, and the crowd is usually filled with losers who think its cool to rub all up on you. There are so many other better choices than this poser place. I can't say enough bad things. STAY AWAY!! Pros: The djs are great Cons: you will be treated poorly, bad sound system, pretentious atmosphere more

it's old, bouncers are mean 10/26/2006

it's a sketchy crowd, angry mean doorstaff. be prepared to stand in line a long time. sound system is pretty bad... loud does not equal good. D- Pros: great lineup Cons: expensive, poor sound, weak drinks more

I wouldn't visit again 10/26/2006

The place is real crowded, filled with extremely old or young people. Moreover, the ventilate system is good. The place smells like smoke. Pros: Good Music. Cons: Too Crowded and smoky more

BEST MUSIC! 10/19/2006

If you haven't had the chance to experience Avalon on a Saturday night...and Sunday morning :) then you are missing out! If you love good music (house, trance, deep house, etc.) and like to dance all night long(until 9am)...then you MUST go to Avalon! The music & the production will blo your mind! I've had the chance to see many talents at Avalon and NOTHING compares to their selection of great dj's and sound system. It's non stop, heart pounding music! The crowd is great! THANK YOU Avalon for consistently giving me a good time! See you soon! Pros: music, people, drinks Cons: nothing! more

Nice club, great Dj's/music, good production, shady crowd. 10/10/2006

I have been to Avalons all over the country (Boston, New York, and this one in Hollywood) and I have to say this one is a different scene then the others. There all set up mostly the same other than some differences, they all have some of the top international Djs and talent spinning on a weekly basis, but the difference is class and crowd. For example the crowd at Avalon Boston and Avalon Hollywood are completly different. Boston= Upscale and classy, Hollywood=shady and droned out. This doesnt mean everyone that partys at the hollywood club is that, just a majority. Avalon Hollywood is known for having a sketchy crwod since its an after hours club and thats typically the crowd that is still looking for a club to go to at 5 in the morning. I still have fun when I go there because I love the music and production that they bring, I just can only take it for so long. I think the Hollywood club needs to try to strive more to get the clientelle base that the Boston club has and keep it upscale, classy and elite. However, I think this has been getting somewhat better since Wired LA took over from Giant on there Saturday nights. Pros: Music, Djs, Production Cons: class of customers more

nice place to dance 8/23/2006

like the place, only draw back is the line..some time you have to wait too long to get in even for the after hour one. the place get pack on weekend..alot of fun people..if you like house and trance music or don't know where to go after all other club and bar close..this is one of the place to be...also check out Grand Ave. in downtown too..we move between this two place for after hour club..enjoy.\r ps..garage..is other one but it open at 6 or 7 am..\r 1. dance and drink @other place until 2am\r 2. avalon or grand @ 2 or 3 am until morning\r 3. can't ge enough of dancing...........Garage @melrose and larchmont from morining until you drop...ha.ha..\r 4. home...enjoy\r just my two cent\r \r Pros: nice, great music, cool people Cons: parking cost, door man, ticket price.. more

standard l.a. club scene 8/12/2005

used to be the Palace. they get big names in there d.j.-ing, so unless you know someone expect to wait in line for up to 2 hours, even when you've paid for tickets BEFOREHAND. inside they've made a lot of great renovations, the balcony is nice to go and chill. it's a nice place overall. more

Best Club in LA 4/6/2004

I love Avalon. The staff is wonderful and the crowd is fun. Each night there is something different to look forward to. The venue is huge and there is plenty of room to dance or you can sit and take a break and people watch. I always look forward to going to Avalon on the weekends. Everyone should check it out if they haven't already been there. Pros: Huge Venue, Good Crowd, Staff more
